To craft for taming, you'll need to acquire a Brush from a tamer or breeder NPC. The material is fairly easy to get as well. You can buy the reagents in bulk in Trinsic off the stone, or kill druid mobs for them in Ilshenar in the cave before Dreadhorn's area.. The dyes are acquired from Tailor NPCs...

Junobo has them all laid out at his Artifact Museum someplace.

Royal Hive Robes are crafted using a wax tool from the token or gold stone in Trinsic, I believe.
As far as a decent starter shield, there's an easy quest near the orc caves in Trammel that awards a decent, high durability, SC shield.

All looters have issues. Sometimes they crash you. Kaiana's looter (in our forums someplace) is a decent script, but it has it's drawbacks.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but, If you spent points, but have not removed the arty tag, there's a good chance that no one will want it for anything. Spending points without removing the tag causes everything to cost 2x pts. No one wants 50% of the available points on a Bone Crusher. sorry ...

It seems that I remember buying them from a Tinker NPC in Haven when I started here. Near the Thieves Guild, I believe.
