To the thief in the night

Post by Cygnus »

This post is only for the player who decided that the story I wrote over a 6 months period and entered in 26 UO blue books would be better served as a collection in thier place instead of mine. I understand the desire for wanting it as I felt it was fairly entertaining, but the fact remains it is mine, not yours. If you wanted a copy of it, I would have gladly made a copy if you lacked the required inscription skills. What I just don't understand is how someone can just think that it is no big deal to take someone else's property, virtual or not. Fortunately for me, I had already made several copies and passed them onto friends plus I transcribed it all to a word document so it is not lost to the world; but what if I hadn't? Months of burning the midnight oil to come up with ideas would have been wasted due to your selfishness and thoughtlessness. Maybe I am naive, but I thought allowing people to share my story was an invitation to sit back and relax, not to add to a personal collection. Well, I hope you at least enjoy the tale (I do); send me feedback if you are finished with it (ya, right); and let me know if you are ready for part 2 which I am 8 chapters in. (In your dreams) Some people just have no honor or integrity. Two things I value highly.

For the rest of you that this does not pertain to, my apologies for ranting on your time.

Well now that you have sparked my interest, what would it take to receive a copy of this story? Also my apologies for someone taking your stuff.

my apologies to you for the thief in the night, no i am not the one who did this to you but my heart does go out to you. i know what it is like to have things taken from you on here and i to do not understand how people can be like this. i do hope you find whoever does this and personally i hope that the gms see this and will take a step if its possible to help you in this matter.... people tend to think that its funny to do things like this not caring or realizing the hurt that they are causing... this is do sad

Can you make a copy from one of the copies you gave to your friends? And then send one my way, cause you've got my interest peeked now...

Thanks for everyone's concern. My intention for the post was to rant a little and hopefully make the perpatrator realize the effort that went into the writing, though I am sure that won't happen. As far as why is wasn't secured, I purposely left it arranged in an unsecured chest so it could be easy for anyone to stop by and read at their own leisure. They were not stacked and secured as I didn't want the clutter of 26 books. As far as the interest in the story that some of you show, I can get copies made from some of my friends that have it, but I have since revised it and expanded on it since I originally put it to UO books. Some of the feedback I got was to expand on the characters more, so I did; which doubled the story length. I am not about to transcribe the story into 50+ books now. Too much effort. What I can do, if enough show interest, is to provide a link to my Google Drive sight and you can read it there. If you want a UO copy of the original, it will be a few days before I can get one of my copies copied, then I will announce when I have found a place to display it. So, you have 2 choices: short orignal hard copy or full length (for me that is) online version.

Warning for All!
I made a major mistake before I went on my 2.5 month sabbatical from the game and forgot to check the security on all of my containers. I thought I did, but evidently not. As noted above, someone came in and took a book collection of mine that was held in a public chest. But, now I found out that I had evidently left my tailoring chest in the "anyone" security mode. Why I would do that, I don't know, but I did. I am assuming it was my "book thief" that also helped himself to my tailoring bod books, my +3 tailoring gear and other items in that chest. So, now I lost over a 1,000 bods etc...

That tells me, that there is at least one player that goes around to everyones houses and check every possible container for "free stuff." If you are like me, you don't mind others coming by to check out your house and look around. I am starting to have to rethink my hospitality stance. Anyways, just be safe and go and recheck all of your containers, especially if you just did some adjustments to your place. Someone is prowling. :verymad:

I have long wondered why we cant get longer books in the UO world, like ones with more pages so are books don't have to be cut up into 50 difrent "books"
