Problems getting setup....

Post by Parrot »

Good Morning folks,

My name is Parrot, played UO the first 8 yrs of it's life and then on and off for yrs after.

I've got your shard d/l'ed and can open and play. I'm trying to get UOAM and Razor d/l'ed and setup but to no avail.

UOAM keeps trying to d/l something once I double click the desktop icon but doesn't open the program. If I go into it's folder and use the .exe icon, I can open it once, but then it won't open it again. Weird, right?

Razor is a bit different. I seem to only get a partial download, can't seem to get any further with it.

I have a good gaming machine, just built it last july, I've been playing SotA with no difficulties. I am running Win10, I know that may make a difference. I know Razor can work on this machine. I tried out UOForever (for about a week) and was running Razor while I was there. I did delete everything from my comp once I decided to leave there.

Any ideas on what I might try? The d/l sites I'm trying to use are the ones linked in either the wiki or here on the site (don't actually remember which it was).

I want to say thanks for the opportunity to play the game I enjoyed for many yrs, and appreciate any assist you might be able to provide.

I'm running win10.

So, I've gone into both my 'C' and 'D' drives and made sure that under users that my user name is set to full permissions.

I go to the the link for Razor provided in the wiki
http://www.runuo.com/razor/download.php

click on it and it takes me to
http://www.uogamers.com/razor/

I hit the download button and I see the Razor_Latest.exe in the bottom left corner of the Chrome browser. I click on it, it askes if I want to allow changes, I click on yes, and nothing.

I go back to the Razor page to redownload (as the button in the bottom left is now gone) and I come up with a permissions error.

Any idea what it going on here?

I'm not sure what's gong on with razor.

As for our client try this:
http://uoex.net/codex/technical/startup

For uoam, it will try downloading from a variety of out of date sites, just keep clicking ok, until its finished and it will start. Or get a newer version.

I think some other folks had problems with win 10. try a search, within our forums, and that may or may not help you.

Good Luck!

For razor both razor and uo have to be put on admin mode and compatibility windows xp Service Pack 3 also make sure that they both have been downloaded to their own folder on your desk top that makes it easier to detect. Razor has to be pathed tobthe right folder when u get it to start up. But what exactly r u getting stuff at? -- Mr.J

First off, thank you for the replies and assistance, it is appreciated.

I have had zero problems with d/ling the game and getting that up and running. There was never a problem with that. The way it was setup to get folks started with UOEX worked as intended.

As to Razor, I could get it to d/l to the desktop if it was the first attempt to do so after a reboot, but once attempted, I had to reboot the comp to get it to d/l again, or it would have permissions error in almost every location I attempted to d/l to. Once the download was on my desktop, clicking on it cleared it away with nothing being installed. I've never had this type of behavior before.

Now, I have tried UOSteam, never even heard of it before, but watched a few vids on it, and went thru what I consider a normal d/l and install session and it worked just like it's supposed to. No problems, it is up and running, easy peasy.

As to admin mode, I did it with admin mode with the game, and attempted to install Razor both as admin and as a user, no go with each attempt. I guess I should say there were probably a dozen attempts before I went on to UOSteam and that was only after I played on the shard for a bit.

Maybe I'll try out UOSteam for a bit, see if I can make it do some of the things Razor could do (I'm a novice user of Razor anyways and it looks like it can). But, I am the type of person who dislikes when my comp or a program decides to give me problems, so I'm not abandoning Razor and the problem I've been having, just putting it to a lower tier of importance for later examination. I just want to play some, lol.

Again, thank you folks for your help, and if you think of anything else, please let me know, or if there's any other info I could provide, give a holler.

You'll find most people here run the game through UOsteam (for combat macros and the like) and use easyuo on the side to run a healing script (BlazinHeal is just so bloody awesome for bandages). So yeah steam can do nearly anything you need it to, but it has some drawbacks and limitations.

Some people will swear to Razor, I personally started there and found it much easier to use while macroing skills up as the record function is just better than steams, plus it lets you sort items by type very easily unlike in steam. I switched once that part was over and done with though, for the combat macro that I prefer to run in steam.

Oh and atm my main peep is trying to get rid of all the chat spam, like mine or a targets health going up 1% or you can/cannot cast/do whatever. Razor supposedly has that build in, which could be a big plus for if you find it bothersome...
