Remove Trap, journey to GM

Post by Jantra »

So, I decided to (slowly and painfully injure myself) I mean GM remove trap!

I found some interesting things so far and thought I'd post them here and maybe some other people who have done this could post some things they've discovered, too?

After getting the initial NPC 30-ish points, Bulsie and I discovered you could rapidly go from 30-65 in a night with the following macro (UOS, but you could make a similar one in any program) and a wooden box with a blaze lock (the old lockpick boxes?), locked:

Code: Select all

useskill 'Remove Trap'
waitfortarget 15000
target! 0x49b777b1
cast "Magic Trap"
waitfortarget 15000
target! 0x49b777b1
pause 15000
You get the target number by getting the serial # with an object inspector. The next 25 points will be painfully. slow. Oh my god. It took several days of macroing while I was working, some actual lock opening and remove trapping while I was hunting Balrons and paragons. I think you cannot go above 80 using the above macro. I sat over night and then some at 80 with that macro, so I think there's something that stops you at that point.

However, once I snagged a paragon chest that was a Agapite lock before I unlocked it, I went from 80 to 81 before I successfully rendered it harmless in about 10 minutes! So, I think the locks on paragon chests and dungeon chests are definitely quite a bit harder than Magic Trap.

Anyone else got info to add? Thanks! I'll add more info as I continue on my journey. :)

Something interesting I learned tonight!

Randomly spawned chests in dungeons can have different levels of trap in them, even when the level of lock is the same (aka: all blazes or all agapites, which was what I happened to be working with at the time) and even in the same area as each other!

I spent 15 minutes and could not for the life of me successfully remove trap a blaze chest, something I usually get within 10 tries. When I manually popped it, it did approximately 75 damage to me! I've had ice paragon chests do less than that to me! That was one heck of a trap!

I'm undergoing this painful journey too. Interestingly I cannot seem to get any gains from a macro similar to yours any more (although maybe I should leave it running overnight  ). I'm at 74.7. I did wonder if the better your magery the further you can get with this method?

Totally agree with you about trap levels - they vary across all different chest levels and I too have had more damage from one I fail to remove on (of all things) a bronze chest in Vesper bank than I have from failed trap removal on much higher level chests.

One thing about all this especially bugs me. You can't start to train Remove Trap until Lock Picking and Detect Hidden are both at 50. I now have 120 LP and 98 DH. I've never found a trap on a chest. Am I missing something about Detect Hidden?

I think Detect Hidden doesn't work for traps at all. It's purely for hidden players and mobs and stuff like that, as far as I know.

I just find it really odd that is a prerequisite for Remove Trap if that's the case, but I think you are probably right!!!

Maybe's one of those 'lore things' because it helps you... spot the hidden little pieces to help remove the trap... or something like that. XD
