How much memory is in your system?

Is it a laptop, if so are there any manufacturer specific driver suites loading up?

Do you have any Logitech driver suites or assisting programs loading?

(Have to ask) Is your browser open?

Also, when you have your processes window up what is using the most memory prior to trying to open UO?

another tip would be to restart your computer and when logged in hit ctrl+alt+delete and see in the taskmanager what is eating up your memory. for me it was typically dropbox and skype and and any browser window i had open. good luck

Hiya +Veri. In order:

4 gig. After a restart my monitor says I'm using 31% of that for normal system functions.

It's a laptop, a toshiba. It has two toshiba applications on the taskbar. Toshiba Bulletin Board and Health monitor. All the other toshiba specific TSRs are essential to its functioning like the trackpad app, etc.

No logitech devices.

I used to be able to start the client with Chrome up and about 25 tabs open (post-patch.) But starting today (or yesterday now) even a restart, no windows or non-self-starting programs, and no peripherals except a mouse; it's "out of memory" galore. The funny thing is, I haven't installed anything new. I can't figure out what's changed.

Resource monitor said that svchost.exe (LocalSystemNetworkRestricted) was eating up 135megs of RAM. (But even with that I should have had 69% of 4 gig to work with.)

ETA: I'll troubleshoot more in the morning. ( I will beat this. But right now I'm a typing zombie.

Ugh, so irritating. Sorry you're experiencing this. My little Win XP netbook with 1gig of ram can open it so long as nothing else that is cumbersome is opened after boot. Not to say this is anything you're doing, its just computers being computers.

Are you running Windows 7?

Hi again, +Veri;

Yep, Win7. Updates are turned off though. Have been for over eight months.

After much wailing, crying and gnashing of teeth my client decided to magically fix itself with no actual intervention (except perhaps of the divine variety.) I'm now able to log-in, play, log-out and log-back in with no problems. Clearly it's another plot by Brainiac. Clearly. What else could it have been?
