New Macro Leveling Policy
Re: New Macro Leveling Policy
so has the afk check changed? first i read about there being a change then i read that its been in place for a year now... what is everyone talking about asking a question my afk checks have always been a captcha... type in 3 letters and hit continue and you pass it.
whats everyone talking about a door... can we get a screen shot as i have yet to see a door but honestly if something was to pop up on me in my daily game play i probably wouldnt notice... the other day +nyx stated she was dropping gravestones around people thought to be afk... i personally probably would have juts kept walking as i dont need to see what comes out of gravestones while walking in my mining gear or just hanging out.
just wondering if something has changed that i have missed or havent been aware of yet. i dont care about afk checks i just do them not a complaint not a whine.
have a great evening.
Your comment just seems petulant and unnecessary.
I felt it was necessary and that's why I posted it. If you all don't want feedback then why post the topic open to discussion to begin with? I feel if we all post our opinions on things then maybe we can have some impact on this shard and lead to a better experience for all of us. Do you mind if I ask why you felt the need to include this rude comment?
I didn't mean to imply you were changing the process. I will restate it with past tense so you understand:
It sounds like to me that you have tried to make it as hard to notice the check as possible causing people who aren't AFK to miss the check.
"they have made the decision to make the AFK check harder for them to notice."
I use hotkeys to teleport, that is it, no auto attack, no auto claim, i have macros for this, but they are also hotkeys, not automatic. When I go to a spawn, if there isn't a balron there I hit the next hotkey. I dont stick around for 5 seconds, possible losing spawns to other players, to see if your door appears. Which means I could be punished for trying to farm as effectively as possible. I didn't decide anything like, "hmm I should go as fast as possible so that I will miss AFK checks" as you say "they" have. I decided to farm as quickly and productively as possible.
To answer +Vs polite response, I think AFK checks are important. I think that you should put equal effort into making sure that you are not punishing the wrong people as you do to punish those who are AFK.
If the door works then use it, but is there not a way to make it follow the person? For example if someone is recalling quickly as you say, manually or scripted, eventually they will stop and kill something (or this wouldnt be an issue), can you not have it where the door pops back up when they have stopped?
how is giving players a heads-up that their scripts - scripts they choose to use and control the speed of - could cause themselves problems with the AFK checking process - somehow "making it difficult for them to notice"? How, exactly, do you gather that? The player has full control over their script, so they have made the decision to make the AFK check harder for them to notice. The AFK checking procedures we currently utilize have been in use for a year or so now, and nobody who's genuinely paying attention has any difficulty answering them in time, even if they accidentally recall away the first time it appears.
I agree with what staff is doing and the standards they set for us to script on their terms, not the players. This is to prevent 10,000,000 lvl 100 weps to pop up and make the economy all crazy again like it was 2 years ago. +V, +Nyx and +Coli have been working tirelessly on making the economy on this shard managable for years now. People I play with who were here back when things cost 10 mil, 300 ed's which now cost 50 ed's or just 2 mil will agree. It was impossible back then for a new player to get ahead in the time it should have taken. Vets no longer have the monopoly here, new players have a shot. I love it!
I do not think scripting on -the shard's- terms is much to ask. Simply tone your recalls down on the script. If you are smart enough to configure it to do what it's already doing then you can do that. Also, if you are smart enough to configure anything with easy UO then you can answer a simple question when a door appears and starts talking to you :) Also, if you use a script here, it's well stated that you NEED to know how to pause. Learn to pause before you script here. Simple.

Nothing has changed, we are simply warning people with fast scripts to pay even closer attention if they are fast recalling.if you script hunt/level with something that recalls every 5 to 10 seconds, you're good. Resource gathering has the captcha. +V

Aryanna. It read to me that your first post was assuming that our goal is to make it as hard as possible for players. The same can be said that some players make it as hard as possible for us to enforce the rules. If you back us into a corner, we will have to put on our problem solving hats. Giving the community warning that we will treat super fast scripts the same as your typical paced ones is fair on our part. Not once have we punished someone who said the spell language above them as we placed the afk check, and that will never happen. Ideally, we DO wait for players to stop and kill. However, if they are stopping to kill one lich, them recalling...I will consider that fair since ordinary play would require you to see the lich, Target the lich, engage, and loot after kill.

Re: New Macro Leveling Policy
Thank you so much. It's annoying to find all my favorite hunting spots taken up by afk macro-ers.. Sorry if that makes people not like me, but it's true :P I go to one place, it's taken. Go to another.. still taken.
Anyway.. no complaints from me. I like this policy.

Re: New Macro Leveling Policy
I just understood your original post to say that if someone is going to one spot and there is no spawn there, move on to the next in 1 sec or so, they could've missed a check and that seems to me like it would punish at keyboard players as well who are just trying to farm / level quickly.
I mean if I am farming Balrons, it's pretty easy to see if a Balron is there or not since they are quite large, and even if I miss it I just use the previous hot key and go back. Therefore, I go pretty quick from spot to spot. Quick enough to not see a door, as I am looking for Balron's and the door thing doesn't look like a Balron, obviously. So in this instance it seems that I could legitimately miss a check while being at the keyboard.

Re: New Macro Leveling Policy
I think a better way of explaining it would be something like, "hey if you don't pass the afk check because you recalled away that's still considered a fail, so be on the lookout guys"
Which seems completely reasonable to me.

Re: New Macro Leveling Policy
These afk checking doors, do they follow you when you recall? Just curious, if they don't what if you recall at the exact same time it spawns?

Re: New Macro Leveling Policy
+V or +Nyx, is it possible to just disable recalling into the dungeons? Seems like this would solve alot of the issues.
Re: New Macro Leveling Policy
The sensationalism being perpetuated by a few of you is a little ridiculous. Mountain out of a molehill much?
Facts:
- V's post did not in any way say or imply there was a change in the AFK checking process.
- The AFK checking process for manual checks has not changed in a year.
- The wall/door/statue is large and of a neon/extremely bright hue. If you're looking at your screen, you won't miss it.
- I have personally AFK checked nearly every person who has posted in this thread. Every one of those people has managed to pass the check when they were paying proper attention to their screen.
- Many players could vouch for the fact that when they have been AFK checked by the wall, and recalled away by accident (couldn't pause the script in time or missed its appearance the first time), it follows the player at least twice more. If you still don't notice, you are doing something wrong and have failed.
- It is, and has always been, the player's responsibility to respond appropriately to an AFK check whether it be a gump or a manual check. If a player utilizes a poorly designed script that runs so quickly the player cannot see the AFK check when it follows them 3-4 times, that is the player's fault, and any consequences are their own.
- If we didn't post a thread with a heads-up about these new super-fast scripts - meaning the scanning period upon entering an area is less than 2 seconds - then the first person using such a script to get jailed for it would throw an absolute hissy about it, when in fact the punishment is legitimate and in accordance with our rules. +V's post was the staff making a good faith effort to let these people know their decision to use a script that fast may cause them a problem they perhaps hadn't considered when they began utilizing it.
- Colibri and the staff have discussed and decided time and time again that disabling recall in dungeons would not be the appropriate answer to AFK cheating. It punishes all for the actions of few, which is something that we do not want to do, as well as something so many of you are constantly griping at us to not do.
I recommend everyone take a deep breath and use their brain before making passive-aggressive posts about how we're trying to pull one over on the players by making it hard for legitimate, honest players to pass. This system is fair and in good faith to all players, and has been working beautifully for quite some time now.

i'm glad to see, that you... the admins see how your players treat authority on your shard. Aryana is and always be a spoiled little brat if she doesn't get her way. Nyx, will be the destitute, commanding wench she is. i saw this shard collapsing 3 months ago, and simple rules could not even be enforced. i'm glad none of you are playing on my shard now. lol..... its white hilarious all of your posts all bitching and moaning over nothing and everything. that's the class i remember about this shard.
Bravo~
