In that case.. what if you have two identical feathers, but do not know when you looted each one? How will you know which feather to turn in?+Nyx wrote:We are currently leaning toward rewarding the first trophy created (read: when the trophy first existed on the shard, not when it was submitted) in the tied tier.

Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
Imo if there is a tie for any tier the prize for that tier should be duplicated for all participants who turned in
matching feathers. I am not insinuating in any way shape or form anything about anyOnes
Integrity but there would still be doubt about who was picked as the winner in any tier just because someone says "he got his first". Just my opinion. Good luck to all and God Bless.

They do that anyway, with every event we hold that has winner(s). It doesn't matter what we do, that's going to happen because such people are petty, jealous and childish.

Oddly enough it seems no matter how hard some people try, the SAME players keep winning. Yes we all know the same few have started using alt players but, come on we're not all clueless. Trying to find out whop wins the Trinsic drawings is an act of congress better yet an event.

Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
This really isn't the place to start yet another gripe about the Trinsic raffles, but I will say this: it's basic math - if someone put 5mil onto a raffle, they have that many more tickets in the pool than someone who throws in 200k. They aren't guaranteed to win - recently a player dropped several million gold onto a raffle and lost to a player who had less than 10 tickets - but it definitely heightens their chances.
If one is ticked off that particular players keep winning - at anything - and one's response is to think that the staff are cheating/manipulating the system/etc, then one has personal problems that are not at all our responsibility. Folks like that just need to grow up. The world around us is what we make of it, if one spends their time looking for such nonsense where there is none, one will never be content.
Everyone on staff has far, far better things to do than fiddle with the results of any event/raffle. We don't like any of you enough to cheat for you, nor would we regardless. I personally find it very enjoyable when someone new or unknown wins anything at all on the shard. I never win anything (in rl or in my various game 'lives') so it's sorta a vicarious victory when a 'little guy' gets the win. There's nothing any of us can do to convince someone who is willfully ignorant or who actively wants there to be such conspiracies, so there's no reason to modify our processes to try and accommodate people who will never, ever be satisfied.

Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
I usually buy 20ish tickets if it's an item I want. Have never hit. It's definitely fixed. I should win them all.

Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
Thinking about the awards, I feel it would be a good idea to give a "1st" place award to all the players that turned the highest count, and a second place for all those that turned that count in, and so forth. I am still hunting the area in hopes of some feathers higher than what I have and after reading that it might depend on when the bird spawned, well, that is rather discouraging. If I am understanding that correctly. So...just my paltry 2 cents worth.
Thanks for the hunt!

Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
I had a lot of fun participating in this event. The hunting events are a favorite of mine because despite my character's handicaps and being a bit under geared, I still am able to participate. I just run away from the balrons.
I tried to obtain the highest feather I could, got around 14 and my highest fell short of what I was going for, but what is done is done and regardless I had fun participating.
Nice work to the staff who make these events worth looking forward to every year.
With that said happy hunting and enjoy all your gaming.

Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
From memory, no-one got the maximum last year, so if that follows it could be possible to win with feathers found in the last minutes.
Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
I think the issue here would be better geared players having an advantage. Imagine the wailing and gnashing of teeth. The Walking Dead even was fun because it evened out your gear, but even that was fraught with accusations and demands. Thus, I like the idea of luck being involved (whether through spawn or random). Personally, I just shot a few birds and turned my mediocre trophy in. While others will likely spend far more time and would be appropriately rewarded.Sethra Lavode wrote:Thinking about the awards, I feel it would be a good idea to give a "1st" place award to all the players that turned the highest count, and a second place for all those that turned that count in, and so forth. Re: Excelsior Hunting Event - January 2015
It comes down to the fact that we have to take the economy into mind whenever do pretty much anything with the shard. There are only so many ED we can reasonably give out per event, particularly a very easy and open-ended event such as this one. When you add in the fact that this is the first incarnation of this particular type of hunting event - we have never done the ospreys before, so the points system is new for this type of trophy - and thus we could end up with really wonky results that would then require us to rebalance the event for future runs.
It's no big deal to give out 1500 or so EDs as part of a month-long event, but that's pretty much the top of the threshold of what sort of currency is OK to throw into the economy for an event. If we allow everyone who ties to receive the full reward for that tier we could be looking at giving out 5k+ EDs, which is beyond unacceptable. For events where we can be certain that there will be only one winner per tier - or only 1-2 tied for a tier - then it's no big deal to give the full reward. But when there's the chance (albeit a slim one) that numerous players could tie in any tier, it's just not doable. We'd either have to decide the reward on the day of, based on how many ties there are - which would incite lots of whiney QQ drama from the aforementioned petty jealous and immature players - or, we have to plan to in some way restrict how ties are handled. Or, we have to simply announce a tiny reward, in anticipation of a worst-case-scenario involving lots of ties.
So again, there's no way to really handle it in a way that people will be happy with. In the end we'll decide on whatever seems the best balance of fairness, economic reasonableness, and hassle for us.

They're not hostile. They're not meaty. I guess you could make a nice headdress...
