Ms Oki and Mrs Gilbert have since departed our family.

I suggest Roxy as a name for your cat..

I like the play on spelling with "Jynx". If you pick my name, donate the $ to ETA guild. They have a great underfunded cause.

Those wonderful green eyes... You should call him Legolas ("green leaves" in Sindarin, the language created by the author of The Lord of the Rings) or Calen (Sindarin word for "green"). Or Yoda, he looks like Yoda :D

This thread is turning out to be a lot of fun. The pics are a great. A little update. The cat and I had some bonding time when I picked him up, he seems like an a awesome cat. But when I got him home he went and hid. He remains hiding this morning. I hear that is pretty normal so I'm not overly worried. I feel bad for the cat though, he is totally freaked.

As for the name, a couple of the suggestions so far are high in the running. However I agree with +Nyx that I need to get to know the him a bit before I make a final decision.

I hope he comes out of hiding soon.

You gotta love cats eh lol

I'm so glad we had that bonding time when I picked him up, otherwise I'd feel like there was a stranger in my house.

Completely normal and almost expected for him to go off and hide (Unknown surroundings). My suggestion, ignore him and let him come to you. Trying to pull him out of his "safe spot" will only stress the kitty. As for the name, wait till he does something that's name worthy. My cat was Mr. Pickles cause he pushed a jar of pickles off the counter and I said "way to go Mr. Pickles"....

Sometimes a cat won't even eat for a few days when moved to surroundings, so don't be alarmed if they don't take any food to begin with either. Hope the adjustment period ends soon :)

Completely agree with this.

If you want to try to help him feel comfortable in his new home, you can go get a plug-in of a product called Feliway, made by Ceva. It is a feline facial phermone that tends to make them feel more relaxed and may help shorten his "omg I'm so stressed to be in a new place" phase. The plug-in will "treat" a good sized room for about a month but doesn't diffuse down hallways or around corners very well. He will smell it, you won't. If you like what it is doing for you, you can continue to use it, but most people use it to help adjustment periods and then don't continue with it unless there are behavioral issues you are combating.

Let him hide until he is comfortable. You can go in and sit next to the bed and talk nicely to him if you want, but pulling him out from his pre-determined "safe" spot will only stress him further. Make sure food/water and litter box facilities are in easy reach. Be patient with him, and ignoring him is actually an excellent suggestion. If you try too hard, you can actually intimidate him more. I'd expect a week or so, possibly sooner depending on his personality/confidence level and whether or not he responds positively to the Feliway. There are also some calming treats available over the counter which contain L-theanine and a few other ingredients that tend to produce natural relaxation. The ones I'm most familiar with are "Composure" and "Composure Pro". They won't hurt anything and they may help him adjust. And you may get brownie points with him for delivering tasty treats! Feathers on the end of a string on a stick are great play toys and may also coax him into playing and forgetting that he is supposed to be afraid, depending on how good your cat fishing skills are.

I'm excited for you and your new kitty.
