Ok, Now we have a good 250 players active. But, whats going to happen when we have 500 maybe 600 players in world chat?! I think since we are growing in numbers and almost alot of people use it just to spam but somtimes its fun. I think when we reach 500 active players we should take it away unless you pay for talking. Like 1000gp use per 1 world chat comment .But its just an idea! Thanks

Personally I would suggest handling it by adding channels that people could subscribe to if they wanted to read it. Off topic, trading, Looking for groups/hunting, etc.

i can't decide. :(

pros:
Maybe less spam (might just up their prices to compensate for advertisement, making it more like advertisement on super bowl *only the rich vendors can advertise*)
gold sink- great idea we should make it more because 1kgps. kill 4-5 balrons and you have that already. maybe up the price.

cons:
we would have to pay to welcome new players to the shard.
if a new player died he wouldn't be able to scream for help if too much.
people would just chat in the in game option chat

3rd option:
you know what would be funny. if the majority wishes you banned for x minutes. it would have to be 51% of the shard, and again lots of afkers.
or make a strict rule to keep the advertisement in the in game option chat/town criers.

Soon to come, channeled chat. A few public access channels, plus ability to create your own and even set moderators. No ETA though, probably not in the near future of a few months but well someday. Approx same difficulty as exex (that one cut down on the trade spam quite a lot).

Outstanding News +Colibri.

Under new chat system, will logged-in players show up as "online", while World Chat is squelched?

Currently we cannot silence World Chat and show up as On-Line when using [pm function, while logged into shard.

If possible, in the case of personal channels, allow the moderator to add or subtract certain person to that chat. Like the friends list + Guild and so on...

Might also attach the ability to see who has logged in Via that as well... Because I don't really care who logs in unless they're my friend or in my guild... *shrugs*

As far as advertisement goes... skip the channel and just add a section on the forums page specifically for "Items for Sale"... Connect this to a in game Web stone and we are all set... let the web do the work for you... Muhahahaha

I don't know, call me a scrooge, but I think a lot of public chat is noise that should be filtered out, like it is with obscenity, religous and political talk, etc. There always seems to be a few players that think their conversation between each other needs to be broadcast over world chat instead of the other options like PM's, guild chat, party chat, and UOAM chat. Or when they are fighting a champ or something like that, they ask their party mates to "go do this", or "where did you go?" or "I am going afk" and stuff like that. All that could easily be done with the above mentioned tools. I think public chat should only be used for world issues like:

1. Worldwide greetings
2. Requests for help/information/ressurections, etc.
3. Advertising personal items for sale (not vendors/locations) Like in real life, advertising should come with a cost. To me, the Town Crier is a good place for vendor advertising.
4. Announcements that affect everyone

As far as something like Roughneck's musical outbursts (and the Roughneck wannabees, copycats), I think it is okay, as it seems to be intended for world comsumption and entertainment and it really is never spammed.

Bringing real world topics into public chat can lead to many interesting conversations but it also seems to inevitably end up with a couple players or more with different views. Then the conversations go downhill and polarizations start. So, real world stuff needs to be avoided as much as possible. Before bringing something up, consider if it may cause a negative reaction from someone. If it is possible, then perhaps use another avenue like this forum.
