Help Me Name My Cat!

Hey everyone, I'm adopting a rescue cat. Male, one year old. Apparently he was owned by a drug addict who went to rehab. The lady who runs the rescue had the cat stay with a friend of hers until she could get him neutered. He was neutered yesterday and was scheduled to go to a foster home today. However he will be going to his "forever home" (my place) tonight instead. This is the only pic I have, he looks a little freaked in the picture, but it's the only one I have so far. The lady says he has a great personality, that he loves to be petted and is an all round great cat, she is apparently quite taken with him.

I would like to give him a new name, it is currently "Buddy". I might retain the name, but I'm leaning towards a new one. I've been told it's okay and common for cats to get a new name after a rescue.

If you are interested, suggest a name. I might not select one that someone suggests, but if I do I'll give that person a 1 Mil check :)

Thoughts I have so far might be something along the lines of his black colour, something to do with superstitions, maybe something to do with UO (but I can't think of anything). Or perhaps something about his life so far. Personally I'm really into Sci-fi, fantasy, pirates, music and the outdoors. I'm open to any type of suggestions though.

Thanks for your help!

I would say that he looks like a Mr. Cuddles but Ya could lean towards Mortimer for that "What have they done to me? Look in his eyes.

Hmm i guess the short hair variety might not work with this. However i must say his (your cat) face is priceless. You know after encountering several, i think rescues have much more personality than your run in the mill pet. Where as oh hey I'd like to buy that kitten, he/she usually ends up becoming a typical cat with typical cat like behavior, where as rescues seem to develop an observational what have you type of awareness regarding their relationships especially with humans, although through sad scenarios, once you gain their trust also make for unbelievably lovable friends.

Creator has too much of him and not enough cat, but its still "relatively" well made

He looks like a "Jinx" to me by the picture.

Very handsome cat, and kudos to you for adopting him and giving him a furever home. :) I've helped place a lot of pets in my day, and it is indeed very common for them to have one "official" name (the name on his vet records and the name you give to your friends), and a few "unofficial" names (which tend to change from moment to moment depending on what they happen to be doing, behaving/misbehaving, lol). He's your cat now and you can name him whatever you want.

He may or may not come when you call (he is a cat, after all). Give him a week or two to settle in and you'll start to see his real pursonality. It usually takes me a while to name a new pet unless then come with a name that I like. I feel like I have to get to know them first.

I'm the same way - all my cats have been rescues and I always let them show me their personality before I name them. Years ago I had one who was such a spaz, so she ended up being named "Skitz" for "schizophrenic". I've currently got a maine coon mix, with the trademark M on his forehead. When he was a kitten he was such a little warrior, which made me think of Gladiator, so I named him Maximus. V and I adopted a rescue kitten in April and he was always cuddling and kneading us with his paws, so we called him Biscuit :)

This is my cat Candy Corn. That is her official name. We adopted her about 9 years ago around Halloween. She is a bit timid, but she likes to keep me in her eyesight whenever I'm home.

Wow, sorry the pic is so large, don't know how to downsize it. :)

In keeping with a UO theme, maybe Shadow?

Hats off to you for rescuing.

Here's our rescue cat named Toby, who can sleep in some weird positions.
