Library Doors are Open!
Library Doors are Open!
Alright, 200 hours of fact checking, typing, and grinding later the Library is finally opening it's doors for the public. This time it is not an open house, it is permanent. I will still be working on decorations and adding more books covering a wide array of tips and other things, but feel free to come in and learn ^_^. Just a note, I will be sealing off "Under Construction" areas but hopefully this will not interrupt typical viewing of books. Now, for those that have not heard of this yet (actually the target group, new players) this library currently contains skill books covering every skill open to use (the exception being the unfinished Remove Trap, since I can't seem to get a good method). Now, some of these books simply cover the basic things you can learn at the Wikipedia but there are some more 'advanced' tips that can help speed you along or just educate you. Check the little red book for description of how the books are setup. Just a side note, in one of the many unfinished sections you can find some of the old UO books that used to be at libraries around Britannia. Without further ado, here are the direction.
Step 1 - Go to house gates
Step 2 - http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l343 ... tions1.jpg
Step 3 - http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l343 ... tions2.jpg
Now since we all know new players don't always use the forums, experienced player, tell them where to find it. I have some plans to help get them there easily, but I am oh-so-tired right now, so it will have to wait till I recoup. Thanks!

Re: Library Doors are Open!
Rather than simply bumping every few days, I'm going to be posting updates to the library as I complete them ^_^. Today I have finished the +Rayne Goody Corner, just a decorative display showing some of the nice snacks our Chef Admin has sent to us. Also, added a +Hina wax bust to the staff display area. Only lacking +Chaos and +Rayne now ^_^. Lastly, my next item of to-do list will be to write up some essays on Treasure Hunting and SOS hunting. Keep an eye on the post and I will alert when I finish them.
Re: Library Doors are Open!
Finished a bit faster than expected, you can now find 4 new books at the library on the northern most wing (which will be the landing spot for all the "Tips" books). Treasure Hunting Basic, Treasure Hunting Advance, The List (Containing pertinent information about the level of maps), and Message in a Bottle (for SOS Information). Look under the boat, they are there. Again, keep an eye for more updates, though I may wait longer in between them (save from posting 3-4 times every 2 days).
Re: Library Doors are Open!
Really cool lib!
Re: Library Doors are Open!
An update without an update this time ><. First, thanks Kimitsu for the good words, glad to see people are going there ^_^ (I rarely actually see them ><). Unfortunately this time I have no updates, I have been held up doing fact checking on a challenged article from my SOS book. I had written in there that the degrees are the only important part of SOS hunting, while the minutes were irrelevant. I was informed by three people over global chat that this was incorrect, so of course I had to do a study to make sure that I was not feeding incorrect information -_-. But now I am back to getting to the books, next selections will be for Flowers and Bees, but still deciding what areas to hit on those ^_^. Anyway, I figured I may as well show the results from my SOS study for those that wish to know in the future.
Study Setup - Using Razor to fish directly under my feet (on the exact coordinates on the SOS) I could not be any more accurate on both degrees and minutes. The challenge of the study is my previous pulls from SOS hunts without doing the same thing (namely only lining up on the degrees without concerning the minutes). The challenge was being done by memory, while the results of the primary study are as follows:
SOS 1 - Chest
SOS 2 - Portrait, Shells, Painting, Nautilus, Globe, Bone Pile, Portrait, Unfinished Barrel, Chest
SOS 3 - Pillow, Pillow, Leg, Chest
SOS 4 - Pillow, Bone Pile, Portrait, Portrait, Pillow, Barrel Staves, Painting, Chest
A SOS 5 - Pillow, Conch Shell, Barrel Staves, Chest*
A SOS 6 - Pillow, Barrel Staves, Torso, Shells, Chest*
SOS 7 - Globe, Painting, Pillow, Pillow, Chest
SOS 8 - Stool, Leg, Torso, Pillow, Chest
SOS 9 - Barrel Staves, Chest
SOS 10 - Painting, Portrait, Globe, Conch Shell, Painting, Skull, Pillow, Chest
SOS 11 - Painting (large), Shells, Shells, Bone Pile, Barrel Staves, Chest
SOS 12 - Skull, Unfinished Barrel, Stool, Chest
SOS 13 - Pelvis Bone, Chest
*= A SOS is an ancient SOS that just happened to come up during the hunts.
Results - As one can tell from the results, all of the pulls are completely random regardless of where you are as far as the minutes are concerned. Even within the listed example it can be determined (with the wide variety of results) you can tell the wide variety of pulls. Given my own (and anyone else that uses the same method) results from previous hunts you can see no real difference.
On a final note, the largest amount of items I have ever pulled from a single shipwreck is an impressive 27. But the average is usually 5-12 before the chest shows up (so don't get your hopes on seeing the 27 ><). Just a fun little piece, I have included a picture of the after study loot. Every so often it pays to be a researcher ^_-

Re: Library Doors are Open!
Bumpdate!
Sorry guys, have not forgotten about you, just been knee deep in the contest so I have been going through a major slow down. Reading entries, answering questions, and collecting prizes for the rewards, it has been almost non-stop. The plant books are still in production but, obviously, very delayed. So far I have Plant Growing - Casual and Filling Your Seedbox completed, though I am waiting for the other book(s) before I post them all. Just keep an eye on the forum and I will list when I am done.
But, I do have a non-book related update for the library itself. Added a decorative alchemy room to the South Eastern tower 2nd floor, in which our loyal alchemists are working hard to break the lag code ^_-. Also added a recreation of the Abysmal Overlord event final area to the roof of the Southwestern Tower. Also some minor adjustments to lightning and a reading area in the Northwestern tower 1st floor. Finally I have added +Chaos and +Hina statues to the entrance on display with the rest of the staff, hopefully I will get +Rayne in the near future as well (at which point I will be writing a book describing the Admin's areas of expertise, and maybe even their times of service if I can get my hands on such information). As always, I am available for questions through PM (just type [pm Oromis) and I hope to get back to work on writing in the near future. Thanks for your patience guys!
Ah! Almost forgot, there are now two bulletin boards in the central area of the castle on the second floor. One of these is for general shout outs (since I know people like to do it ^_^) and the other is for requests of additions to the library. I will be checking these regularly so use them to your leisure ^_^.

Bumpdate!
The Library doors are closing for a short period ><. I know I said this would not happen, but I am planning on moving the entire thing to a player run town that is currently in development. My deepest apologies for those that use it on a regular basis (yes there are a few
), but I hope to have it back up and operational in a brand new area within 2 weeks. The new area will include the Library itself as well as a Museum (hosted by a separate player), town hall, rune library, and whatever other things we can cram into it
. Anyway, sorry again, hopefully we will be back up in under the initial call time, but only time will tell. I think this move will definitely be for the better though and the possibilities that will arrive from it are immense.
Keep an eye here for further updates and hope to see you at the new location.

Re: Library Doors are Open!
Free at last ><. I have got a couple days off from work and finally had a chance to work on the library once more (between visits to the Halo Reach beta ^_-). The doors are now reopened! All of the old books are back and ready for your learning experience as well as the entries from my "Writing for Millions" contest. Now the format of the library has changed significantly, so here is a quick guide.
1st Floor - Tips and Skill guides. Skill guides are on the far western wall while the tips are going to be on the partitions just east of it.
2nd Floor - Fiction section. The far western wall here is holding the original UO lore books listed in Alphabetical order. On the partition you can find the "Writing for Millions" entries which are listed by Author name.
3rd Floor - Under Construction
4th Floor - Observatory/Under Construction
Now, as promised there are benefits to this new location. The first being, NO MONSTERS! I was always haunting the Library for fear of a new player getting killed by a wandering Air Elemental at the old location, but this one is completely sealed off by mountains and has 0 spawn, so feel safe ^_^. Also, my rune library (still working on it) is located a short distance to the east of the location. Currently the only hosted runes are for the T-Map spots, use it in conjunction with the UO.Stratics Treasure Map location program and you can knock out all those excess maps in no time ^_-.
More updates as they come, once again sorry for the delay but lots going on from my side. Take care friends and enjoy.

Re: Library Doors are Open!
