Umbris Camp...

I was planning on heading over to this area and see what it's all about but couldn't find any real information about it (and there isn't too much on the wiki)...I went a couple of times with a bio and two imps and well...It wasn't pretty...More like a scene from a horror movie...I found the quest giver and got some assassination quest but so far havn't gotten anything accomplished on it...Any advice on what to do when i go back? Would it be worth it to go back with a group of people? My gear level is 220 dex and no relayers...I have about 220 hp's and a druid book (don't know if it will help at all just trying to give out as much info as possible)...Am I in over my head or should I wait a bit and get better gear?

anti-druid, anti-pet need at least 275+ hps and 220 dex to make it.

Umbris Camp is far from "very end game" in my opinion. Do NOT bring pets but it is very survivable if you only want to do the quests. 220 dex helps a whole lot. however if you want to farm it for oints or gold you need a whirlwind weapon preferable with a area affect hit. It has been tweaked so it is much harder to farm (more eliets who can mortal hit you, more archers that will do a fair amount of range damage when you are under mortal hit and the addition of 7-8 soulless that hit very hard if you don't have 250ish HP they can one hit you)
I still die a lot there but i have made tens of millions (most prevalent cause of death is my internet being crappy [stupid time Warner cable]) in umbirs, I am far from end game, (I wouldn't darn include myself in a the same breath as some of our true UO gods) yet I, even before i finished my first relayer i was able to make enough money to pay for that relayer deed in Umbris. Thankfully Anarchy showed me some of the tricks to the trade a year ago and that helped out a lot. here is my advice on making money in Umbris.
1. do not take pets! they will die and if they are mules or nobles the will quickly stat loss in to bunny's
2. druid spells nor hiding is allowed.
3. if your there to do quests a armor pierce is your best friend. kill only what you have to to get your keys/items try to avoid the rest.
4. if your there to make money, you NEED a weapon with whirlwind & a area affect hit. (if your serious invest ten million and change a taskmaster to a halberd level and spend points on AOE hits)
5. do not kill the elites, wound them until they run away then leave them alone. if you kill them the re-spawn fast and come back at full health.
6. don't kill the shadow casters until your ready to leave, the have 12k gold on them but if your looking to farm you'll make more letting them spawn shadows.
7. Insure your stuff, it will cost your 20k at the corps stone, or you will run in trying to save your body and failing because you cant stealth your way in to recover your body like your can elsewhere
8. once your have the place dominated you can pull your bow out to chase down the wounded grunts that are running around, its easier to chase them down with a bow than a axe.
9. ether use a bag of sending or a bag of holding, your will make WAY more gold than you can carry.
10. pace yourself, try and set a reasonable goal of gold to make then take a break, you can get very burnt out paying attention dipping, dogging and ducking the enemy!
Umbris is def not a newby or lower mid level game but you don't have to be a UO god to make money in Umbris. on caviot it is harder now than it was 6 months ago due to some of the anti farming steps taken but you still don't need to be anarchy to make umbris worth your time.

more tips:
trial by fire (cleric spell) is your greatest weapon in umbris camp.
stay by the right hand side to avoid the archers on the stairs.
do not kill the elites as nick has said.
kill the red mage as fast as you can he likes to peace make you.
kill assassin's as soon as you see them, or let your AoE kill him. (i personally just let him kill himself on my armor)
avoid the middle at all costs. those things shoot fireballs for about 200 damage.
have divine fury hot key just in case you get bogged down and need to run.
have cartography maxed 120 if possible as it helps with casting (ex divine fury)
have magery maxed 120
have wrestling maxed 130
have inscription maxed 120
anything that deals with casting max out no matter what.
bring an ethy pet to ride so you don't lose your mount.
AoE AoE AoE
also. WW WW WW WW WW WW WW
never try to retrieve your body, always use the stone.
you can pm me for information and if you can run and heal and hit and heal and heal and heal then i'd take you if you wanted.
here's a small intro of the shard.

Don't be so negative

even if you don't have relayers you can still go with a group of people. If you like to go and I am on pm me and I will help you complete the quest as well as show you some tricks of my own.
Umbris camp is for some players like their playground

Just wanted to say thank you to Larsa for taking me through this...It was rough and he did most of the work but I managed to complete all 3 quests...I'm planning on heading back (I think i've become addicted to it) once I get some better gear...Mainly a decent AOE weapon...I picked up a Taskmaster and slapped a weapon leveling deed on it and started working on it...Soon as I change it to a halbard I'll spend the points...But which AOE hit's should I go for? Are they all the same? And how high should I take them (to 20%...maybe 50%??)? I know nothing about how they work...Any vets with some more advice?

You can also change the weapon into a warhammer, which has better specials than a halberd and comparable base damage. If you don't want to spend the ED's changing your taskmaster/serpant's fang into a halberd/warhammer then a Blaze of Death is a very cheap and effective alternative.
In terms of your points array for an AoE weapon. Depends on your overall stats. If you are making it specifically for Umbris camp you want heaps of hit areas and mana leech doesnt hurt either. If you have 300-400 stamina and mana then you can skimp on the leeches and just go all in on the hit areas. I'd put as many points as possible evenly across all the hit areas except hit physical area. If its purely a whirlwind area weapon then avoid all the other hits and go all in on the hit areas, its so nice to see a smattering of rainbow effects across all the mobs on screen and red numbers pouring out of their heads....
Level'd double axes go ok as well... in fact there's a decent umbris weapon for sale here:

i like the halberd because of the lumberjacking damage mod.
plus, concussion isn't so bad as it deals with mana vs hps i do believe and in umbris camp they don't have much mana. also, get a lot of rpd.

You can do Umbris quite easily with a counter heal Bio pet. You just have to take it slow and make sure that the pet has a weapon like a hally that has some stamina leach on it. Also make sure they have a good set of RPD armor and a few thousand band aides in its pouch. Also make the bio kill the elites, soulless, hex's, etc... first!. Also stay out of range of the archers.

Do halberds really get the lumberjacking bonus on this server? I wish I would have known that, I went with a double axe instead for that reason. That doesn't really make sense to me.

yes there is a lumberjacking bonus for axes. you can also raise lumberjacking by using and axe on a trainer.

My pleasure dude! Even though it didn't go as smooth as I planned the idea was to get it done! Feel free to pm me when you need a meat shield. Oh, btw... there's a 1 week cool off period to re-do the quests. Have fun stay safe!
