Mistvale Nameless Ruins

Post by sarmatian »

Hello,
I am relatively new player still eligible for Mistvale quests.
I got stuck at the Mistvale Armaments - Gauntlets quest.
It is not a problem to collect Scales of Vile Deeds, it is impossibility to kill that 40 Elder Gazers in 5 young players dungeons.
I can cope with Demons (killed 100+) , I can cope with Liches, can stand to one or two Lich Lords.

this quest is marked Level 1, Solo.
In Mistvale Nameless Ruins dungeon I cannot survive pack of
3-4 Succubus , 3-4 Lich Lords, couple Liches, and 2-3 Elder Gazers (my target) in area 10 by 10 fields next to the entry portal right in the shade of the wall.
I can teleport attack one ... land spell and perhaps 2 hits ... then pray to get to the teleport before death.
sometimes i die on the another side because cast spells never miss ... and will get you on another side of portal :-(

My stats are not high, just average:
Str/Dex/Int = 135/125/54
HP = 146
Resistances Phys/Fire/Cold/Poison/Energy = 60/70/57/69/70
Anatomy / Magery / Resisting spells/Parrying at 100 , Tactics/Swordmanship at 120

Damage from large battle Axe 56-60 plus bonuses from ConsecrateWeapon/Bless
I cannot use Enemy of One, because it will lower defense from other creatures.
I am trying to use Reactive Armor/Magic Reflection but it is lower one to increase other ...

What am I doing wrong? other than not buying 3-4 Nobles/Mules/nightmares for gazillion of gold
or advices "buy" this super duper weapon/armor from my vendor for several gazillions of gold.

I am assuming (with all consequences) that this quest is for relatively new players without 500 ED to spend on equipment
Perhaps it is a trap like Mistvale Mercantile quest?

Is there other location withing those 5 dungeons with Elder Gazers ?
Can I collect those 40 Elder Gathers from regular dungeons? ... they are easier for me. :-P

the elder gazers can be found in shame unfortunately i no longer have the marked runes for gazer spots in shame.

i stayed out of nameless ruins dungeon it was way too hard for me back then. all the quests can be completed without entering nameless ruins. all the mobs you need to kill for the quests can be found in non mistvale dungeons and will count toward kill count on quest. for the quest items looted from corpses those do need to be farmed inside mistvale. pm me in game if you need help finding particular mobs but dont give up on mistvale you will regret not completing all those quests later on.

No problem, I know at least 3 places where I can find single Elder Gazers ... Headless Hideout, penisula north of that spot of snow in taming forest, and certain red roofed castle south of Yew cementary ...

That is very good news.

My post, aside from frustration was concern if I am missing something which should give me better survival chance against couple of flame and lightning cast on me at the same time by creatures with Magery 90-100 and Int in 500 range ...
Is 70 max resistance or there are ways to buff it above 70?
The best effect in "physical" combat I achieved using not whirlwind but bleed attack.
i need experiment more with that nice mirror image ...

BTW, is any limit to distance for magic attack?
Somebody cast at me fireball , I am running away and this self guiding missile is always on my track. Even through some portals. Can one outrun magical missile?

I would buy a couple of maxxed pets (not nobles/imps) just cheap disposable rabbits/chickens etc. They cost very little and will completely shred all the mobs you're talking about. Makes things much faster and easier.

I've had nobles die to this spawn....just once or twice but it is hard to a new player and throwing rabbits/chickens may not work.

That being said if the OP needs some help I am currently in mistvale and can help out. I have done all the quests except the crack merch one which is not worth doing (insurance for a small amount of gold vs hours upon hours upon hours of work....yeah no). Let me know if you need to clear it. Once the area is cleared it is easy to control (same deal with the rest of the shard....respawn sucks)

Respawn does not sucks so much if you are insured and invested your donation ED into Bag of Holding. Very good investment.
Today it is my first login, and after doing my daily duties (voting, collecting BODs, ..) I went into labirynth ...
10 entries, 4 deaths from which three at safe side of portal ... It reminds me Stargate series and explosive returns through the gates ...

Welcoming committee , minus 2 Liches and 1 Lich Lord already killed.
After 5 days still 16 Elder Gazers to kill.

Image

Lich's Personal Protection Service ... I do not know who is the principal, probably Elder Gazer and Succubi is just Psycho Fan ...

Monday 20:15 server time ...
Finally done.
I died on average every 2 Gazers (because there is on average 4 Liches and 2 Succubi per every Elder Gazer)
My best achievement is to die 4 times in 30 min .. Sunday Bloody Sunday ... or returned with 4/146 HP.
It is not a solo mission. Works better if players interested in different creatures enter at the same time. :-)

It helped also that I changed weapon
from Large Battle Axe DI 35% . Spell Channeling, Luck 88, resist: 14/0/0/0/14
to Large Battle Axe Hit Fire Area 38% Hit Fireball 38% . Spell Channeling, Swing Speed Increase 25%
Whirlwind + Hit Fire Area is very nice for Liches with their low Fire Damage defence.
I need more mana to reply in kind with more than one Flamestrike.

Here is short summary after completing Mistvale Armament quests. Perhaps somebody will find it helpful.

Written from the point of view of warrior and crafter, no pets, with small mana pool.
Fighting skills at 100 except for bow which was 90 (what I could train in newbie Dungeon)
Excuse me my professional bent, but I like run quests in parallel ..

Trader's Troubles quests - can be run once, it is just running and fetching giving nice $$$ may help with getting better weapon or PS120 ..

Mistvale Merchantile - I consider it scam, you will waste time on "part 1" then learn that you need to bring 4000 Daemon lether ... but ... it allows you to pick up Daemonic Deeds quest which is nice side quest and profitable if you are a tailor.

Daemonic Deeds - repeatable quest - for 1000 regular lether and 20 Vial of Demonic blood (quest item not reagent) you get 100 Daemonic lether. Vials are dropped by Lich Lords, and Daemons perhaps also Evil Mages (I am not sure).

Monster Contracts - weekly repeatable quest - every week you can run all 4 quests - get new contract before getting new armor piece quest. Monsters are counted to both quests so "kill 40 liches" goes nicely with Leggins or Cloak of Mist :-)

Apiculture - weekly repeatable quest - relax running errands to get 5 potion kegs (bring pack animal to carry all 5)

First dungeons then quests:
Aelwic - first level has Daemons and Evil Mages and ... Imps. Evil Mages and Imps are "crunchies" one or two hits is enough.
Demons are stupid, do not swarm when one is attacked, select single Daemon or two in the side corridor (out out sight out of mind), and kill first Mages and imps in neighborhood. Whirlwind attack is very handy. then you should not have problem with single daemon. After cleaning room (perhaps in multiple passes) or when somebody else clears the room, just stand in the middle , patrol and when you hear something... kill it!. Monsters are spawning one at time.
Side Profits: Vial of Dem. Blood , other 4 quest items, and do not forget while waiting for next monster ... skin the corpses ... Imp == 6 Spined Lether, Daemon = 1 Daemon Lether.

Best place to collect your Evil Mages and Daemons.

There is second level, at the entrance there is couple Nightmares, Imps and Dopplegangers. Nothing quest related, and Nightmares are hard for me, tamer may be interested in getting their own "my little Nightmare" ...
Do not laugh, I went there (1st lvl) for relax after series of deaths in Nameless ...

Forgotten Crypts - first and half of the second level, undead crunchies plus Skeleton Knights and Mummies .. Whirlwind and any AoE esp. Fire is your friend ... Have fun when you run ... I just boost my Str, cast Bushido Evasion and run into the group and dance dervish dance with my Axe (regenerating stamina with Chivalry "Divine Fury")
When I am focused at the end of 2nd lvl I just run throught 1st lvl and half of the 2nd lvl without fight ... speed is your friend. Undead brains are slow.
What is important at 2nd level, close to the stairs to 3rd level there are 2 rooms, smaller to the East with Lich Lords, larget to the West with Liches (and some crunchies) ... if you manage to clear one of the rooms, the rest is just waiting, they spawn one at the time ... If you are very bored you may try to clean two rooms and patrol both ...
Your quota of Lich Lords and Liches may be fulfilled here. It is much safer than Nameless ...
3rd level has more of the same and Serpents, couple of Daemons ... no reason to go to the 3rd level for quests.

Thilon Mines - nothing quest related, Hellcats, HellHounds, Earth elementals , Gargoyles ..may be usefull for Monster quests... Tamers, it is nice spot for your HellCat HellHound BOD ... no other fire spitting interruptions ...

Nimre - something fishy is here, when I stepped from the grass on paved paths I could not get back to the entrance other than using recall outside of Mistvale ... beware. Denizens: Elder Gazers, Poison Elementals (!) , Bone Daemons , Devourer of Souls, check their stats before entering ...it is too tough for solo player (at least for me).

The Forgotten Crypts - the reason for this thread. It is hard because it is open space ... and there are 4 strong creature types using spells: Elder Gazers, Liches, Lich Lords and ... Succubus (check stats!) ... it is just daemonic "female of the species" as Kipling wrote.

You have to hunt succubus here (yeah, I heard about Blood dungeon, got killed there even faster than here) ...
Very important facts:
- know your enemy
Lich https://uo.stratics.com/database/view.p ... ers&id=227
Lich Lord https://uo.stratics.com/database/view.p ... ers&id=228
Elder Gazer https://uo.stratics.com/database/view.p ... ers&id=149
Daemon https://uo.stratics.com/database/view.p ... ers&id=375
Evil Mage https://uo.stratics.com/database/view.p ... ers&id=163
Succubus https://uo.stratics.com/database/view.p ... ers&id=339

there are Evil Mages in building in North West (north from cementary and charnel pit) this building has 2 floors, and sometimes with option "Circle of transparency" set, one can shoot through the walls (but cannot pickup loot that way).
Liches are spawning every where but check also corner at extreme North West , there is always couple there ..

for Liches fire is most successful (dry rags on the bones)
for Elder Gazer fire is least effective anything else even physical dmg is better.
for Daemon - anything . their resistance is quite low (~40-50)
for Succubus TaDa! .... Physical resistance 80 , Fire resistance 70 ... Hunter's guide recommends Agapite (30% cold dmg)
I used hand forged Ice Ore Axe or pickaxe with .. TaDa! 100% cold damage. Whirlwind and Bleed ... first for group therapy second for one on one sessions. Bleed will stop regeneration even with Life Drain aura . :-)

Perhaps Bow with 100% Cold damage would also be useful, but my skills are too low to create yumi. Regular Daemon Slayer composite bow was not enough (100% physical dmg).

Must have for Nameless: "scrum" weapon with whirlwind, Cold damage weapon of choice for one to one sessions with Succubus (and Elder Gazer) , and .... Yumi with Armor Pierce special attack.
According to this page Mohogany Yumi should have 100% Cold dmg.
http://www.uoex.net/wiki/Resource_Properties
Keep the distance (Life Drain aura) and shot them all from distance.

Bring friends and nieighbors and hunt together 2-3 players with bows and pack of pets that was nice sample of cooperation. Sometimes i was "tanking" with axe, sometimes just supporting with bow or healing ...

Good person gifted me with Hanzo Bow (yumi) and I used it only in anti armor mode wich Chivalry Consecrate Weapon ... Liches became 1-2 shot targets, Lich Lord and Elder Gazer 3-4 shot targets. But this was with strength bonuses from earlier Mistvale armor pieces raising my Str to 180-190.

Last Hint, when you are not hunting for Succubus in Nameless ...
If whole crowd is running toward you throwing spells and promising nasty end ... run for the gate and stand left/right to the entry/exit sparkle. All monsters are disappearing close to the entry sparkle. It is frustrating when you have Succubus down to 20% of life and need to step away for quick healing session and after return there is no target to finish. But it is god send if you want to get throgh the "welcoming committee" and get to Evil Mages or Liches.

Another Last Hint: Use insurance!, get Bag of Holding (in my opinion best use for donation ED).
You will die multiple times, take care to have money in your bank box
... reclaiming corpse is easier with weapon and armor in hand.
Monitor durability of your weapon and armor, I broke my fist axe from 69/69 to 0/4 ...
get repair deeds and stand close to the blacksmith when repairing before you get to 0/nnn.
Do not forget about Tailor (leather armor) and Fletcher repair deeds.

I used money collected earlier and here, to buy 120 PowerScrolls,
for Healing, Archery, Parrying, Swordmanship and Tactics,
I probably should buy one for Medidation and Focus but resources are limited. Instead of this I tithed 20k gold for Chivalry spells.

Proposed "serving order":
- Mercantile quest to get Daemonic quest
- Trader's troubles for $$$ and warm up can be run between dungeon grinding sessions
- Apiculture - start early and repeat every week
- Monster hunting contracts - choose wisely, if you get hard monster (like succubus, drop it, or wait till you go there)
Armor pieces:
- Leggins - Liches in Forgotten Crypts 2nd lvl(!)
- Curaiss - Lich Lords in Forgotten Crypts 2nd lvl (!)
- Coif - Evil mages in Aelwic just hit and run, skipping Daemons if it is too tough or work methodically on all monsters.
other quest items you can collect in Forgotten Crypts
- Boots - Daemons in Aelwic do not forget to collect Vial of Daemon blood and daemon skins ...
other quest items you can collect in Forgotten Crypts
- Gauntlets - kill Elder Gazers in nameless Ruins
- Pauldrons - kill Succubi in Nameless Ruins

remaining items are in sequence you do not have much say here.

Last polite request: be a team player and do not pickup quest resources that you are not collecting for quest, somebody else may pick up them.

Edited more than 10 times for spelling and clarifications.

Now I am going to level up my Fishing with all those Red Worms from Liches as a bait ... waste not need not :-)

Couple of comments:

If you have (and learn to manage) four noble steeds most of these dungeons are easy. Learning to manage includes 120 powerscrolls and begging or building an auto-healer. In particular:

Crypts - area-life-drain makes succubi a pain to deal with. Most things fall fast to pets but ordinary maxed-out pets won't get it done here. You'll be halfway to done and suddenly your fortunes reverse: she's at full health and your pets are at half.

Use noble steeds and don't let yourself get attacked by more than 1 succubus at a time. Your nobles can wipe her out before they can get off more than one or two area hp drains.

Crypts - the two balrons in the tower spawn on a cadence that's just about perfect for taking them down with noble steeds. Just when you've killed one, healed your steeds and and looted the gold, the other respawns. Run up (or down) the stairs and repeat until you get bored or someone else wants a turn.

Nimre - you have to go to the bouncy spot and wait in order to exit. So you can't easily run away. This area is *hard* but doable by a taming expert. Clear the area near the entrance and then work your way forward slowly engaging small numbers of monsters at a time. You can walk (not run) it solo with 4 steeds but there's no real benefit: the crypts are much easier and you get more loot.

Caveat: I haven't seen Mistvale in some time and haven't played it since I was much newer so this information could be out of date. Probably not by much.

BTW, those red worms let you fish up Striped Bass off Jhelom IIRC. I know it's Striped Bass and I think it's near Jhelom. Have a fish bowl handy and an aquarium ready or they'll just die on you.
