Hey there, (not sure if this should be on another part of the forum, sorry if it should)
I'm very sure that my ISP is doing some heavy traffic shaping on just about every port (except port 80, which is used mainly for internet navigation). I know this because it's actually a well known fact publically (although they have always denied it) and because it's pretty obvious since p2p downloading speeds seem to drop dramatically at around 20.00 hrs (hardly a coincidence since it seems to happen every day).
Sadly enough, this really affects UO, to the point that I can't play at all because of the lag and the "Connection Lost" gumps I get every 2 or 3 minutes. I've called them very angry and nothing seems to happen. They usually start traffic shaping at around 20.00 untill 00.00, but sometimes (like today) they've been traffic shaping almost all day,
Traffic shaping is legal in my country so there isn't much we can do about it legally, although I'm pretty sure a clever outraged lawyer could sue them for misleading it's customers when advertising their connection speeds. I'm furious because I have an 8mbit connection that is almost useless since I use it mostly for p2p and online gaming, both of which are seriously affected by traffic shaping.
Does anybody know a way of working around this problem? I'd really appreciate it.
Traffic Shaping and UO lag
Re: Traffic Shaping and UO lag
I actually had never heard of this, so I did some searching and came up with a few sites like this one. That's just for P2P though, couldn't find anything for online gaming. Hopefully there's someone here that knows about this and can help you, otherwise maybe try looking into a different ISP (assuming you have others to choose from in your area).
