can't play on someone else's account

Post by TwilighT »

I dont think so. Ive done it plenty of times. I think you cant just be on two accounts at the same time for your own personally benifit. But if your hubby is just macroing and your doing your own thing and you look over and his macro is stopped then you can restart it no problem.

The no multiple accounts is mainly to stop cheaters.

I know from personal experiance that the staff have there own way of seeing if you are cheating. Just play natural and you'll be fine. It may be good to PM Colibri or Rayne and let them know that you and your husband are playing just so they are aware.

sweet ty, im not interested in cheating even if it were allowed, i like to play because i like to play :P working things up & getting stuff on my own, but ive worked so many chars that the grinding skills gets dull, so i macro. & my hubby dosent have time to sit & grind the skills up hed rather macro so theyre done when he gets home :)

besides, i dont particularly see the appeal of playing an opposite sex char....so i would feel funny playing his char anyway :P

tyvm for replying :)

You say your husband, I'm going to go ahead and take the step and assume that you live in the same house. How is anyone going to know if you're restarting a macro or not? I mean unless you're broadcasting an open webcam while playing no one will know.

As far as following the letter of the rules, it's stated they don't even want you so much as logging in. Who knows, maybe there's some kind of massive crime spree going on when someone logs into someone else's account. I'm sure we'll both get fussed at, you for posting it probably something to the effect of (read the rules!) and I'll get fussed at for pointing out what I did.

Hara,

Yes the rules state no other accounts in the same house hold. However +Colibri has stated before, "Other accounts may be created using [account for family members. There is a box gump to notify staff the reason why there is another account created on the same IP."

That is not word for word but pretty much the jist of it.

All in all, just make sure the staff know that you have another person playing on the server with you at the house. I know myself they are fine with it considering when my family was living with me I had up to 7 people playing at once on my same IP (Three best friends, mom, dad, myself, girlfriend), like I said just let them know and you should be fine. No worries.

Hope we were able to help you :)

First off, forgive my ruleslawyering and quotefrenzy.

Secondly, I'm quite sure that you are misunderstanding what Harabakc means.
I'm confident that he's aware of the fact you can have multiple accounts from the same IP for family members, as it is under the [account command.
What he clarified was that, regarding multiple accounts, whether they are from the same house or not:
http://uoex.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6 ... =90#p11577
+Colibri wrote:Dual clienting or having multiple accounts is NOT ALLOWED. It says so clearly in the codex.

That also means that borrowing your friend's account (even for a few minutes) is NOT ALLOWED!
Doing so, if you get caught, will get your friend's account permanently banned. Your own account will get banned from anywhere between a week and 3-6 months, and that is if you're caught the first time.

We want to keep things fair - every person gets to play on one account.
From the Codex:
1. Accounting:
a. One account per person, multiple allowed per IP (for multiple people in a household).
b. Having more than one account per person is forbidden.
What Harabakc also said though, is, if someone just pops over to the computer of someone else living in the same house, and re-starts a macro which takes all of 3 seconds to do, nobody is really going to notice it at all.
It's also not something that's actually causing an issue - it isn't earning the primary player any profit, just a nice act that helps the secondary player out in the rare event of a crash. Going to a GM about it would be frankly (and please don't shoot me for deciding this myself, it's just an opinion) a waste of the GM's time.

That being said, if you want to follow the rules to the letter (which you should), TwilighT, don't do it at all as Colibri clearly stated not to use anyone else's account, not even for a few minutes.

The anti-dual-account rule is mainly there to prevent people from *abusing* the ability to have multiple accounts, for personal gain. But just the "personal gain" does not cover all the possibilities... something may not be for your personal gain but is still illegal.

For your specific case, we could have a situation where you would not be a UO player, you would have no idea how to even login or how to start a macro. And your husband would call you from work, saying "hello honey can you please go to Start and find razor? Ok, click that icon. Now enter my password which is ****. Did it log in? Ok good. Now go into the Macros tab on that little window there, and click Play".

So in this specific case, I would say it's ok.

It's also OK for example if your husband has forgotten to return an item to you, and so you can log him in just for the trade. But this is for example not allowed if your husband is still a new player and has the ability for example to get organics from the newbie dungeon.

But for example starting a mining macro, and then if a staff member comes in to check if you are at the keyboard, it would be not allowed for you to answer the GM.

There's basically no need to PM us telling that you are in the same household with another person. Our admin tools allow us to see who all is linked with whoever else. Sometimes we find a person who has for example made 15 extra accounts just to harvest the starter gold, which of course is illegal (we take the looted gold, permanently ban all accounts, and the primary account gets a few weeks or more ban).

And we also have a tool that allows us to see who all is currently online from the same household, with which we can spot illegal activity (such as using another account as a portable ankh), and we also do surprise inspections (a special maze through which all of the people on the same IP must go through, to prove that they are in fact different people).
