"New Precedent" for Hallow's Keep

Post by Orbit Storm »

Alrighty..

I've been a a member of Excelsior for a couple short weeks, but have logged quite a bit of time and not once, have I ever dealt with a "ninja looter".

Now, I'm sure most of you know what that is, if not: A Ninja looter is someone who essentially steals loot from right under your nose before giving you the chance to see it for yourself.

Not even 15 minutes ago, a guildmate of mine and I, were tackling the fearsome Horseman, when "along came polly" so-to-speak. This player graciously offered their assistance to my guildmate and I, not so much in a verbal manner, but by simply joining the fray. Literally seconds after we put the Horseman down, they used [claimall and ran from the room.

This is truly frusturating. Judging by my luck as of late, I doubt they looted much. However, that's not the point. This kind of thing, coming from someone who has been on the shard awhile, is, well... sad.

I will not mention any names.. nor will I take the time to report them to staff. Both are childish in my opinion.

Although, what I will do, is forewarn any possible future "ninja looters", that should you attempt this on me whilst in Hallow's Keep.. I'll simply sprint to Night Terror and turn him loose.. then promptly hide.

I really hope this player reads this at some point, and I truly hope that no one deals with this themselves. I feel truly sorry for players who do such things, but.. well, what can you do.

Would not the "ninja" need to deal a significant amount of damage to the monster (such as 20%) to be able to loot? Because if not...well that's just bad.

Not quite positive. Either way they joined moments after we started in on him, and it took us about 5 minutes to take him down.. :scared:

But as I stated above.. this player was/is well, rather established on the shard. Which is what makes it more unreal.. :?

I am sorry that this happened to you as it is deemed unacceptable by the standards we set on this shard. If one is here merely to steal and/or harm their fellow players, then this is not the place to be. We work not only as individuals here at Excelsior, but also as a group. We are kind, courteous and do not in anyway advocate selfishness, greed, or harmful pranks to name a few.

A month ago I requested an update to the [claimall/[claim function, and over the next few months, Colibri and I will be working on that, so that certain creatures are opted out of [claimall/[claim if a staff member so chooses. It is quite sad in some ways that we must make such changes, as it would be nice to rely on the good will of those around us. Alas, this day in age is lacking in many positive character traits.

Note:
If players are killing a mob, and you happen upon them, you should ask them verbally if you may join in, and if their answer is yes, you may do so. If they say that they are able to handle it themselves, but thank you, then you need to continue on. This is called courtesy, by which you will also receive if the shoe is on the other foot.

Spawns can be thrilling, and one might get caught up in the moment of it all, lashing out at any monster that crosses paths, however please remember the above note, and abide by it, as it will not only grant you friendships on the shard, but in your real life as well as you show people courtesy.

Well I truly appreciate your apology Rayne, although it wasn't necessary.

I just felt like making light of the situation, as it's not a "life changing moment"..

The edit to the claim system sounds intriguing.. Care to offer your ideas of what you had in mind? Unless of course its top secret..

I've killed things in there without any help and had someone claimall it the second it dropped so not sure. I've also had a couple of people who act like it's a 50% off sale and ran across the room to rip things from my hands.

Aye, well it will be a "behind the scenes" function, by which the staff member who is creating the spawn would be able to decide if said spawn would be claimable upon death, or would require "manual looting".

That's not a bad idea. Too bad though that you can't simply edit the script to disable claiming of any significant loot, and just max the decay on it, to say.. 4 or 5 minutes to cut back on using up the space server wise..

This is only one aspect of the system. The rest is classified. ;)

Well here's the deal.. My post was 90% anger, 10% seriousness. Of course, I also have the common sense not to release Night Terror if players other than the original culprit are in the dungeon.

Night Terror offers up a hefty dose of 20k hits, there is absolutely no reason that other players should be luring him out.

He is kept in a secluded room accessible via doors ONLY, for a good reason.

In further reference to your reply.. I'm not sure whether to take your post as a snide remark or a lack of respect for staff. Either one won't fly too well in this thread.

Well I'm also quite positive that Rayne understands my frusturation. Would I actually do it? Doubtful.

Simply because stooping as low as that, would make me just as immature as those who actually do it. Point of the matter is, that people need to just leave the HK bosses alone if they can't be certain they will kill them.

You know, I've been here for a little over 2 weeks, but I can say with pride, that I'm doing a whole lot better than some people who've been here 2 or 3 months; but then again, I've logged over 310 hours of play time in such a short span. But I've taken notice to people who still have their young status, even some Vets who went in unprotected (no pets), and then the whole charade starts.

The biggest issue is greed. People go down there purely for the free cash and tokens, and I don't blame them. But a line needs to be drawn when people wreak havoc on others by releasing bosses such as Night Terror with 20k hits, which can one shot nearly everyone on the shard.

So, no offense, but let's not turn focus onto my statement as though I'm the culprit here. There's a rather large number of people who've openly admitted they feel the same way I do. There's even some who want to camp HK, hidden, and report all the ones who pull these stunts.
