Unattended Weapon leveling

Hi , theres something that have been bothering me lately . The unattended weapon leveling abuse of some players on the shard .

There's 2 specific names that comes in mind but the goal of my post is not to bring some dirt on them so ill spare you the names even if many already know who they are.

I could understand that an emergency irl could keep them from being in front of the screen for several minutes. The problem isn’t but rather with the fact that they are staying still on ONE SPECIFIC TILE, killing the same monster over and over again for long period of times .By long period of times i mean extended hours up to 4 to 10 hours straight and also confirmed by several friends who kept a close eye on them as well.*

Lets face it no one mentally sane can stay still in front of their screen on one specific tile for such a long period of time without going afk at some point or another , or even crazy by doing so! I'd rather undergo the Chinese water torture!

I had a talk with one of those 2 players who claimed they could do 1.5 to 2 mils per day staying still just leveling their weapon and picking up the gold and regeants off from the corpses. Nice way of abusing the system by doing unattended weapon leveling and get rich at at the same time.Imagine if everyone were to do this. It would simply throw off balance the economy already in place of the entire game. But hey ! we are no where near that we're only talking about 2 isolated case here, so no problems right? . . .

I know Azure and I used to have staff check on us on a regular basis while leveling weaps as well as when we would do a champ spawn. Since she is my wife and we are on the same IP address, we would often have to run their maze course to prove we were both present and at the keyboard. This was all back when there seemed to be fewer staffers than what we currently have active. I know the staff stay extremely busy with all the PMs and help requests with the number of players we have here now, but it still seems like the attention to prevent this sort of thing has been allowed to fall to the wayside.

yeah i have seen atleast two people standing on that one tile at two different times as many others have i can say both of thier names off the top of my head i mean who else sits in one spot long enough to go from level 1 on a weapon to level 45 without doing anything if that was me i would be going crazy

I am in the middle of getting calan'd up so am levling a butchers. There is a few people who hit the same spots as I do. I usually stop and say G'day. Most reply something in the way of a hello. I get suspicious when they dont reply to me. Either they dont speak english, are extremely rude or are afk. Im guessing the latter.

Lets not forget with easyuo it is easy enough to have a macro that recalls you to certain spots and kill mobs loot then recall to the next. Ive seen a script that PVPs before....

Definately think it is going on. I notice they are recruiting staff atm. Maybe this will free up some time to try anmd catch these people out.

At the risk of being stalked after stating this, I thought I would just point out that I have 3 people (myself included) at my IP address playing here. We have all been here roughly a month and not once has anyone ever checked out to make sure we are all different people.

Maybe if afk weapon leveling is an issue and new accounts are going unchecked as well, perhaps a new staff member could take care of this. I say that assuming that the current staff just don't have the time for it. To me this seems like a serious issue as economies are very fragile entities and must be watched closely or a huge collapse can happen.

Well just my thoughts on this :p

In my experience the unsaid person was one of the one who always answered me and with answers that matched my questions. Not just hey or yes, so unless it was an extremely clever script the times i encountered were not afk. Not saying it did or did not happen, just what i experienced

For the most part, the people standing on one tile leveling their weapon are alright. I find that they are usually at the computer although they may be multi-tasking with RL tasks. At least if they are AFK, the culprit is easily identified. Just say hi and make some small talk, if they respond then they're fine. However, if they don't respond then assume they are AFK weapon leveling, note the time, place and take a screencap with their paperdoll open (I prefer using Print Screen and then cropping it in Photoshop). Send the info to the admins and I believe they'll look into it. Again pretty easy if they're standing in one location since you know where they'll be for a while.

It's much more difficult to catch the players that recall around several spawns using macros/scripts since they are in each location only for 1-2 minutes. Still you can use the same procedure as the above. If they are AFK then eventually they'll come back to the same spawn, so just kill the spawn while you're waiting. When they finally do show up they'll be waiting their 1-2 minutes and possibly be casting their buffs while no monsters are in sight. You can try initiating small talk again and take your screencap.

PS - Could have swore I posted a reply back to this thread, hopefully it was just my own error rather than my post being moderated (I do not think I put anything offensive).

(asking because i've seen someone there on my first and only visit)

question #2: if one would check chat every 10-15 mins, would it still be unattanded macroing/farming/whatever?
you know, like when you start browsing internet, or are studying in front of pc etc

As for your second question: Unattended is not being able to see the screen and respond to any person or circumstance while doing whatever it is your doing. Granted, emergencies and bathroom breaks will occur but they shouldn't happen often. You can still browse the internet and attend a macro at the same time. Just make the browser small enough so that you can see the game screen.

Speaking as someone who does a lot of scripting...it is very easy to set up a script to automatically respond to players that enter the screen and talk to you. Now, the accuracy of what you're saying is a different story...

if i walk up to someone and say hi and get no response, then invis that person and they stay invis'd then that tells me they arent paying attention. now thats not a problem if you are at a bank, but if that person is in the middle of a dungeon/spawning area then that is the definition of afk fighting and no matter if they are surfing the web or going to the restroom, it isnt that hard to hide. If they arent hiding they are exploiting, (just my 2 cents)

Now Ill up front admit to surfing the web while sitting in the aforementioned room but I can see my character (love my wide screen monitor) and see when people pop in the room and see people talk to me and most of the time Ill respond sometimes I wont. Depends on who it is and what kind of mood Im in. Most of the time I remember to hide myself if I get up to get a drink or go to the bathroom or whatever however sometimes ill forget to turn my autolooter off and that will reveal me. But I doubt that Calan is talking about me. This feels a lot more like a personal vendetta just trying to be subtle about it.

I don't usually put my two cents on anything on this forum it seems, but I agree with the afk macro'ing to lvl a weapon is hard to spot and even harder to put some justice behind it. My theory would probably be borderline illegal, just as the whole are they afk, or aren't they is being borderline illegal since it's so hard to tell if the "said" person doesn't reply to you. What if this "said" person encounters just a little more than they bargained for at their "said" spot where they are expecting only liches and lich lords? Per say 3 or 4 devourer's and/or a rotting corpse or so in that mix. Granted luring is frowned upon (and even against the rules i believe), but I would think afk macro'ing to lvl your weapon is a little worse. ;P. It's not luring if they aren't at that spot when you lure the creatures there is it? . Since we are playing on technicalities to allow us to closely not abide by the rules. I'm not even trying to say everyone is doing it. Just the few who are, might be in for a lil more than a lich if they come back to same spot and all. Isn't that paraphrased as "Street justice"?
