I have to say, I like Lust's idea

how about a preregister time (they tell me), and then i tally up their total weight of big fish. i could even say ok you have to register before hand for 2 hours. who ever catches the most total big fish weight wins. that allows people who can't start exactly at midnight shard time can start whenever they want, but for only 2 hours. they tell me when they will start fishing a day before hand and i write that down. if they have a fish over that mark that fish is disqualified. it will also fix the multiple ties because the likelihood of catching the same weight is unlikely (if there is a tie it will be less than who can catch the heaviest fish).

how's that? does that sound more fair?
