Hey everyone.
I am trying to decide on a shard. I havent played in years and I found a way to play on my phone, so that sealed the deal for me to get back in.
I tend to play a reclusive but kind character who starts out as a merchant, then a thief, then when my skills are high enough to handle the real world I get out and leave my thieving ways behind and become a adventurer. Some things that are important to me:
1. What is the best way to make money? For my first many hours in the game I enjoy doing crafting, and a lot, to buy myself the house I like and secure myself financially.
2. What means are there to sell crafted items to other players? Are there player auctions in the game or only selling via word of mouth by the bank?
3. What are the limits to sneak and lockpick in terms of PvP? Can I lockpick player homes? Are their chests pickable? Like I said this is something I enjoy in my UO experience. I like to play a thief who might get back at the town bully by raiding his house.
4. Anything else I should be aware of with this sort of character in mind?
Thanks for your time.

1. Go to the newbie dungeon and do the rat quest over and over. Organics sell for good money on here just type [exex to see the sell prices. You can depsoit the organics you receive in the exex box in Trinisc by the bank.
2. Use world chat [c to advertise your goods or get yourself a vendor in a popular player ran vendor mall. There are several out there including one ran by myself.
3. NO PVP on this shard and NO you can't pick someones door or chest in their home if they are secured. Locked down chest have to be released if you want to get the items inside. More over you have to be "granted access" to even enter someones home.
4. Stealing is only useful for getting rares/artifacts in some select dungeons from what i understand. So this could be profitable. Lock picking is rather hard to raise after 95 and can only be gm'd using prison camp chests or lvl 4 tmaps.

Re: A few questions from a newbie trying to decide on a shard
Okay. Well I understand not being able to pick house doors, I think thats kinda rare. I usually got in by sneaking when they opened the door. If its a shard rule that you cant be in someones house without their permission that is too bad.
How about crafting? How would you describe a players ability to craft decorative house itmes from tinkering and carpentry? Does it exist and would you say there is a good range of items? I can live without thievery if I can make a good living at mercantile and there is a vast range of craftable items.
Two other questions - does this shard use the "traditional" map or a custom one?
Can houses be built or do you have to buy an existing one? Cant say I enjoyed the fact on on shard it was existing only and there were huge wait times and prices. Can houses be placed anywhere?
Thanks for your time.

Oops double post...sorry!
Re: A few questions from a newbie trying to decide on a shard
the rules about security on this shard are the same as the current UO.
private houses won't allow anyone to step onto the foundation.
the owner can set the security of the chests in house so that no one but him can open them.
however,
if you like stealing and lock picking, there are chests in town, in dungions where you can get gold and special items.
of course in the dungons you have to watch out for the spawn just like the UO dungons.
many skills work up faster here, which makes it easier to protect yourself. there is a training room where you can work up all of your fighting skills up to 75.
all craftables are the same as UO shards.
plus there are many more special craftables that you can make.
look through Wiki.

Re: A few questions from a newbie trying to decide on a shard
there is pvp in restricted area (pvp dungeon only), but i don't suggest it because...it becomes more of who has the best gear than actual skill. best way to make gold as a non hunter is by bee keeping. crafting is kind of non-existent. sorry.
