I've always been really into housing, even when the game first came out, and I think this contest is great.
I really appreciate a house that combines creativity and functionality, and I love finding little bits of originality in something thats been being done for a decade and a half.
Oddly, my 2 fav houses were both single plot designs, Drac's and Malaya's.
While I absolutely hate teleporters, Malaya's structure is just extremely tasteful, even sparsely decorated it just felt complete.
Drac's house, while being a square design is very well thought out, has a symetrical flow to it and excellent stair placement.
A few houses/things I'd like to make mention of, incase anyone is reading this and wants to see some cool things people have done with their homes;
Oromis - Incredible custom furniture and designs. Spent a ton of time scrolling over your stuff trying to figure out how you built it
Krotho - Wow, chaotic but great theme house. How the heck did you get neutral orcs? lol
Hacksaw - It's got to be hard to have a bad mountain house, but I loved the 3rd/4th floor theme, and the top floor is cool
Loumis - Just impressive
Lust - Where did you get "plucked chicken"? I have to know, lol.
Sparkle - Very tasteful house all around, amazingly innovative custom deco/furniture. Love the miniature golf.
Spendy - Beautiful house, the walkways with the water is really great. Mixed walls is something I've always thought was really hard to pull off and your house does it very well.
Samael - Great theme, very cool structure design. The storage could be better implimented, looks out of place.
Anyways, I had a lot of fun looking through everyones stuff that I otherwise would have been too lazy to ever find.
Good luck to all the contestants!

Re: April House Deco Event
maybe the winner will be the one who create the most account and self vote? not sure if you can do that, but just saying and I'm not pointing no fingers. if you're innocent don't worry about it

Re: April House Deco Event
Thx Side for the post, realy appreciate it! Nice of you to point out elements of some of the houses, im sure the owners will be glad to have some insights and feedback. I hope this will encourage others to visit them all and leave comment (positively).
Hey... you didn't mention my house

Re: April House Deco Event
Your house is awesome Thorgal!
Honestly a lot of houses are great and it's nice to see how much time and effort was put into them.
As a newcommer to Ultima Online, I can admit housing is what many other games lack, and how fun
it can be to create your own, or visit other's homes alike.
I caught Side checking out my house before she posted up there, and we went to visit a few homes.
After speaking with her, I can not only agree with her above comment but also, attest to it's authenticity.
I will always rest amazed by the power of creativity.
Thanks for making this event a possibility.

I agree, Thorgal's house is a great house and it is a shame it is not listed with the others. I also want to thank him for putting this on and investing his time and effort and to Anarchy for his donations. I am also wondering why there is only 53 total votes from a shard that is averaging over 200 players on at a time? I would have expected twice as many votes by now. Maybe they are waiting till the last moment. Aside from Side and myself, has everyone who has voted, gone to each and every one of these fine homes and looked through each and every one of the floors and rooms? Based on the voting patterns, I am beginning to wonder if they have. There are some spectacular homes (Georgia's and Ellarial's just to name two) out there that have yet to garner a single vote or have only gotten one or 2 and I am not including mine in this thought. I am totally impressed by each and every ones creativity here and I would think it would be really awesome if we were to document each home somehow (some are quite large) and make a special place on our website for them. The we can allow the rest of the UO world get a chance to view our creativity and would be another great advertisment for our shard.
P.S. to Luxe
I noticed a whip at the base of your bed. Is that anyway reflect on the real Luxe or something totally innocent?

Re: April House Deco Event
I think my house appears to have alot of confusing pathways and teleporters to most.. and open to the public completely... normally public access stops on the 1st floor and at the door of the eastern most house, (aside from the public roof bar) and alot of the teleporters act as security points.. for our houses we need public access, guildmember access, guild high rank areas/personal areas its alot to keep straight but with the security on.. alot of the seemingly random gates serve a higher purpose..
I am flattered that anyone voted for the house at all.. the houses in the competition just mind boggling, and the jdi guildhouse is quite frankly huge tacky and utilitarian. things like the well on Golden Temptress' roof, Thorgal should be singled out for taking an old style fort construction, and shrinking it to manageable uo size, it looks very much a part of the shard, I also love samael's ruins.. absolutely incredible and likely tedius build..
too much stuff to mention without leaving too much out..
Yoda..

Re: April House Deco Event
Thank you Side. I know it's sparse, however, (or spartan) I wanted to stay within some of the aspects of the culture. That, and the decor for such a type of house is a bit lacking, and I wanted to stay within the theme of the dojo. I do prefer stairs as well, but I didn't find a way to fit them in, to suit my tastes. I'm so happy there are those out there enjoying it, for what it is.

Re: April House Deco Event
Ive seen alot of great homes with Unique decor to suite the owners theme and personality. It was a tough decision to pick just one but I managed to do it and cast my vote..strangley I found thus far I am the only vote this house was given, which I found extremely odd. I hope this didnt turn out to be friends voting only for friends.

When does voting end?
Re: April House Deco Event
Poll runs till Sat Apr 30, 2011 11:32 pmSide wrote:When does voting end?
Although results don't make any sense to me...
And I still think that with several votes we would be able to make more smooth and realistic picture.
Re: April House Deco Event
I am starting to lean strangers way here.. I know eh.. last thing you'd expect from the vote leader.. I felt like there were housees I didn't get to vote on that kick tail.. and in a way you can like the JDI guildhouse.. totally cool with that.. but really digest what people like loumis, golden temptress, samael and others have done.. and our guildhouse by comparison is a neon cardboard box.. a big box like you'd get for a fridge but stil..
as far as I am concerned if you revoted with 3-4 votes my blessing is there entirely..
thanks for voting for me for those that did.. but seriously.. 1 wall of samael's ruins is better than my entire fort.... fort JDI is a functional object more than pretty or stylin.. although my wife made it look pretty neato

ATTENTION! The voting period has been extented, the poll will last until may 5th! Also with this change, you can now pick 5 houses so if you already voted this means you still have 4 to pick! Good luck to all contestants.
