Name Change

Post by Zar Ivan »

I would like to pledge for a public announcement when a players name is changed by the admins unless its a "New Player" change. Some kind of post on this forum - maybe a sticky with a list so you can use ctrl+f on it.

Can you be a little more clear. You mean say if i want a name change that they would post it?

excactly. if you get a namechange with the help of admins you will be added to a forum-list like that: "Gandalf changed his character name to Gondolfo".

I would only endorse this idea if players were given the opportunity to decline public announcement, you know, like it were a service, not a requirement.

i really would like it to be a requirement! why would you change your name, if you dont have anything bad in mind or did something stupid you have no back for to stand it out?

The ppl i met so far, that got a namechange, had something bad in mind when they did.

I got a namechange early on From Rock Strongo.. simply because I quickly realized the char could be combat and crafting so I didn't have to have Yoda be a second char here..

Sometimes people just don't want the baggage they have attached to that other name, and it isn't always with malicious intent. What's funny to me is when someone like Julien changes his name, but not his tag he had added to his name (The Needless Spender) and sits in the same spot at Brit bank. I mean, what were you really wanting?

afaik having "the baggage" attached is beeing not capable of carrying the own mistakes you make. if you can't do that, why not start a new char - what do you have a back for?? If you fall, get on your feet and stand up again, fight for your name.

I can tell you it wouldn't happen. people have a right to privacy. and maybe there is a RL problem fora name change that doesn't involve anyone else knowing about.

what a self righteous pretentious out look on life.

clearly you've never made any mistakes and are perfect.

well for the rest of us that aren't, mr. high and mighty, please spare us your paradigm of life, we are obviously inferior to it.

I've changed my name in the past, i made no attempt to conceal that fact, and actually i'm sure a lot of people will back me up on that considering my quiver has my name on it and i never bothered to change that. I changed my name for fun.

But i'm not so selfish or close minded to not realize that there are some people who want to leave the past behind, turn over a new leaf or just simply get away from drama.

Get over yourself dude.

People don't always change because they have caused grief, there are a number of reasons why people would, having said that if people want to let others know they have changed there name they will.

I think to say to someone stand up and face your baggage is very unfair, paths lead us down different ways sometimes, so sometimes it's nice to just have a fresh start, but without the hassel of gaining all your skills up again.

If someone changes because of something bad, the chances are they will slip up again regardless of a name change, so let that be the staffs problem and just worry about yourself.

This sums it up well imo. I changed my name twice in 3 years and never was it done to cover my actions. I went from Fingers to Polar Bear to Cyrano de Bergerac, and I would probably change again if it was not the trouble of redoing all my macros.

Also, as mentionned by Gwen, true that it is quite easy to find out if a player you know changed his name or just stopped playing: hangs out/hunts at the same places, uses the chat in a recognizable manner (I often add this smiley ";-)" at the end of mt sentences), has unique armor peices or, at least, the way his armor is setup is unique, type of pets he uses, might not have renamed them... Also, if that player crafted armor, it will be written: "crafted by *new name*". His guid and/or title might not have been changed. Finally, his house sign will reveal his new name.

So I am against the mandatory disclosure of name changes as proposed by the OP. Not only this suggestion doesn't respect the players privacy and freedom of choice, but it would also give additionnal work to UOEX staffers. I personally prefer seeing them use their time for fixes and upgrades; like this area that +Veritas created and wich gives a real challenge to vets and advanced players, cool events, auctions, ingame support, shard cleaning/monitoring (jail/bans of the unrespectfull players)...

*Wow, typing that reminded me how much theses guys have alot in their hands! Props to them, I think they do great work overall!

REALLY!!!

Soooooo do you want staff to notify you if they have a sex change too?

Wait lets also have staff put a notice if a person makes an ALT toon.

WAIT .... I would also like a Global message for when someone changes their pets names... They could be up to something...

I will tell you one thing I would change my name it would be to get away from crazies like you all that agree to all this!!

EDIT! Why not add the persons IP Address .. EMail account too! I would also like the persons Real life name.. First born if they have a child. Mailing ADDres .. cell phone number... and how much gold they have

We should also start banning people from the forums whose alias doesnt match one of their toons names. Lets raise taxes too while we are at it.
