For my knowledge...

Post by +Veritas »

Would you guys n' gals mind posting what you believe are the top 5-10 least used (if at all) collectable items in the game? Not really looking for artifacts or any craftable items, but looking more for items used in crafting. Thinking of ways to make these serve a function and perhaps open a market for them...

Thanks!

- most of the peerless regs (blight, putrification, etc)

but tbh, there are a lot of other issues that need tweaking and are as easily done as creating new recipes. Cleaning up and
pimping loot-tables of treasure-chests is the most important i think.

To respond to a very significant point made by Zar Ivan, I agree there are many things that can be done, but I have limited access to the inner workings of the shard. But, as far as adding things on an already up and running shard I can do a decent amount of quest-based things...

Thanks, and keep it coming!

Go look Under feature requests. I have been asking for golems to be given some status. A 3 slot pet that absolutely stinks currently. I also mentioned using some of those useless items for upgrading them. Imagine Platinum Golems, maybe use those other gems that most people dont use for something that is 'cool'. Remember what blue diamonds did as soon as they were needed? Prices and demand skyrocketed.

Useless Items:
Arcane Gems-totally worthless here currently
luminescent fungi
Clockwork assemblies(Related to Golems)
Power Crystals(Related to Golems)
Lady Mel Wine
Thrashers Tail
Ececutioner's Cap
The ingredients from peerless: Scourge, Corruption, Blight, Putrifecation and others I forgot.

How could I have forgotten this...
Anarchy is totally right, the most useless craft-item IS a 0-special mimic.

I agree with the post about the ores wood and leather, Everybody runs around with petrified bows, plat armour and weps and ethereal leather, they are too easy to come by, i think some more custom and REALLY hard to get resources should be added, or the current ones just harder to get.

All those ingots, lumber and leather are needed for doing BODs. The problem is that the BOD rewards need to be revamped. Right now there are only certain ones that have any real demand because they are used to one of the couple in-demand items, like powder of fortification or +gear. There was some discussion a while ago for a rework to BOD reward scripts to give better and more balanced items to make doing all the other BODs. There was someone on the forums that actual rewrote the script and posted, but I have not seen any response to indicate that the script was accepted by +C.

There could also be a revamping of the Alchemy skill. That is one to could really use up quite a bit of those useless reagents if suitable crafted items could be devised. Right now the skill is only useful to make potions for bees and plant, and a couple of the items related to wax crafting. How about a combined Alchemy and Tailoring to make enchanted clothing. There are a couple of clothing slots that are useless until you can afford to do a relayer.

Any of the lower level runic tools. Crafted gear is of limited use here anyways so the lower level runics are basically useless.
Maybe we could come up with a system to allow turning in "x" number of uses for a lower level runic tool and be able to turn them in for a higher level one.

NOTE: The-Watcher Vorpal bunny Easter eggs do spawn here... at a slightly less then average rate.

The Negative

Useless items: Just about everything... with only a few exceptions. Because after awhile they are all boring or junk to begin with.

Useless Skills/Abilities:
Item Identification, Item Taste Identification, Herding) as a whole), Magery (as a whole), Forensic Evaluation, Wrestling, Snooping, Removing Traps, Tracking, and Detecting Hidden (as a whole) are rather useless skills. The Enhancing feature is also rather useless, or non-existent, for crafting.

Almost Useless Game Endeavors/Features: Treasure Hunting, Dungeon area's with lesser creature clientele, just about all of the lost lands area's; including most of Fel's outside area's, and Malas', Alchemy (in combat), and the 'old school' guild system. (because by now some one should have figured out how to add more stops and stays to it, like the ability to let some one else recruit into the guild besides the guild's GM)

The Positive

With an open mind just about anything can be added, within reason, to this lovely shard +V.

NOTE: I'd like to give honorable mention to the Awesomesauce Cloak, you, +Ver, rewarded me and a few others for participating in an event of yours awhile back. It's similar to a reward cloak, having +3% physical resistance, but after that it gets better and is the reason I still wear it today. Though + 7 luck and +1 to each of the stats: STR, DEX, & INT, might not seem like much to even myself... its unique yet USEFUL quality makes it worth wearing/having.

The shard needs things, skills, and features worth having in the game for everyone, not just me. And this should be done, primarily, with what is already within the games structure. One last thing to remember is all the changes or breaks in the games original structure. No Skill caps, tougher controllable pets, level-able weapons, and cleric spells, to just name a few; have changed the UO realm as we know it. IMO, each thing we add must be more then just a fix or a solution, but instead it must be a CHANGE, like the changes before, that add to, as well as stabilize the balance of the shard itself.

You want my Opinion? Well you asked for it...

**Tracking + Mining = finding specific ore types in the area, that we can already mine due to our skill level. (self-explanatory)

**Detect Hidden + Tracking + Mining = lets use find specific ore types, plus gems, and more of the special ore's we do find.

**Magery: add a paper doll slot for spell books, so we can always wear them & gain their effects; activate slayer spell books.

**Alchemy: needs new potions added to its roster. Like a Greater Intelligence potion, which also refreshes a percentage of the users current mana pool(25%) before usage, and a Full heal potion, which completely heals a character to full life, but costs them half of their stamina pool, and can only be used every 10-15 minutes. Durations might also be increased as well, for potions of night sight, agility, intelligence(if added), and strength. (this could be done in one of two ways) 1) new tool, which allows us to stack potions together with a max of ten, thus we have the same potion in strength but it lasts ten times longer.

2)Alchemy + Taste Identification = the possibility to change looted potions into something of value by identifying them and thus scaling them in power. From lesser to greater (if not better), in power and durations.

**Item Enhancing should just be re-looked at, anything added or changed would be a plus, it lacks stability.

**Old/Lost Lands needs more 'outside' Npc monster population. Malas and Felucca also.

**Monsters, Mobs, Baddies, Enemies, or whatever you call em; we need more of them and new types of them. All with special and diverse loot drops. Nothing to risky, but certainly use common sense here.

Example: By adding a lizard man type that is red or orange to Despise Dungeon Level 1 (lizard man area) that spawns every 12-20 minutes, with 65-120gp, a stronger loot table, and can be carved for 8 spined leather and 2 blaze leather; you might just see more people hanging out there. The creature should be stronger and thus tougher to kill then normal. I leave those details to the EX GM's.

**Fel Mining -- needs to be fixed-- yes we get double ore when we mine the spot, but that's only half right as intended. Mining in Fel was meant to grant double the ore vein quantity. So if I could mine 20 times out of an ore vein in tram I should be allowed to again mine 20 time out of an ore vein in Felucca with double the findings.

Tram = 20 ore
Fel = 40 ore.

As of now they are the same, but you deplete the our vein faster in fel.

**Smelting-- we should be allowed to smelt, looted, items and receive up to half of their base construction costs back, if we have the correct skill needed. Its part of the game. For example mining or smelting weapons produces the same things, its just a different way of doing things. In the long run a minor will have more ingots and make gold from selling them, a smelter will have an equal share of both gold and ingots and make more gold then ingots if he sells his ingots. (adding this makes junk magic items have a better value/use)

The Best for last

NPC Vendors that sold/bought/traded: BoD's, magic items or magic enhancements, special items/weapons/armors, and potions or new things.

The vendors would function simply.

*Barter - NPC has its out new currency type, which is used to buy from and sell to it.

Trading = Player is granted quest with specific quest reward- Quest requires specific item before completion
Buying = through the use of new currency, players are allowed to purchase items from the NPC.
Selling = players are allowed to sell certain items to an NPC and acquire a new currency which is used later to buy things

In closing I'd like to say that if just one of these things is added, I'd be a happy camper. These are just ideas after all, and the GM's can only do so much. Later all, and let me know what you think +V & everyone else.
Criticism is good because it improves upon what came before, and solidifies the strongest of foundations.

I really like your ideas about tracking+mining, magery, and smelting useless weps for ingots (i really like that last one). I'm afraid I don't really understand your idea about bartering and trading though, in particular the part where u suggest a new currency. It really sounds interesting though.
I think the smelting idea is the best idea though. That could become a good way newer players to make some good gold by looting say a Blaze longsword or Gold shield, smelting it down, and selling ingots on exex.

One other thing i didn't see since the changes in the champ drop the picky beetle is useless now.

I like Danilo's Idea of a new currency, not a fan of bringing it up but in WoW there are Crafting Daily Quests which give a special currency as Danilo mentioned. After collecting a few of these new currencies, someone could buy a new recipe, or item specific to the trade. Now this may be implemented one currency across all trades, or specific to each trade, but I am hinking this would be a good way to get some of those weaker BOD's completed. Just an Idea, dont now how complicated it would be, and dont want this to turn into World of Warcraft, thats why im here again :)

Let me know what you alll think :)

not to hijack the thread however I've seen other shards where the special currency could buy really neat deco items such as cannons and ladders and the like...nothing insane like the auctions, just everyday stuff. mayhap revamp what the useless items are (all those lower ores/runics/leathers/etc) used for or perhaps put them into a "clean up britannia" type deal. yes its similar to tokens but different...or change tokens to include awesome stuff. ;)
