after reading what arrow wrote in the first of his post i would have to agree with him on shouldn't be up for bids. because he's right. the rich would only get richer and the poor well they stay where they are.
Get up off your over-stuffed wallets and earn it if you want it,
so going to work everyday and spending real life money (time and assets) vs time spent in a game. i think if you donated you've earned it much more than getting it in game, because you sacrifice time at work and money made from working. some people don't have 4+ hours a day to play. if i'm lucky i have enough time per day to check on plants and get bods (most of the time i'm on portal). then i really only get to play on Saturday and Sunday. but it's ok my gold plated world i live in allows me enough money to donate and help the shard out, and takes care of everything else i need in life. seriously how much does it cost you for entertainment per month? 200 dollars? 300 dollars?

eds labored for them. why should they be so sacred? well because someone spent time working plus they spent time donating the real money, but i think they should be up for grabs. i'm just tired of people thinking that someone who donates and gets good items (like myself) are said not to have "earned" it. would you rather have 50.6 million in game or 150 USD's? <----will tell you value. nuff said.

I'm not trying to vilify the richer members of the shard Anarchy. There will always be the rich, and always be the poor, and always be people in between the two. Basic fact of life, some have wealth handed to them, some work hard to obtain it. Whether that wealth is obtained through donations, or by expending in-game time makes no difference to me. When I speak of fat wallets I meant in-game wallets and never really gave any deference as to how one acquired their in-game wealth. Wealth is after all just wealth. I donate hard earned real life money myself as do alot of other people I'm sure, I ask for no special treatment or quarter. What i do ask is that there not be any more systems put in place that cater to the wealthy. Hell if we want to do that why not just give IDOC's to anyone that donates real-life money as a nice little reward. Here's your ED's and here's a nice little 18x18 for you to loot. My point is the current system isn't broke and doesn't need a fix, it's been that way since the beginnings of UO with a minor exception that house signs used to tell you they were progressing toward IDOC. No shard can maintain houses/accounts indefinately and Colibri is more then generous in giving players in excess of 6 months to redeem their accounts whereas it is 30 days in live UO.

When I say "earn it" or "work for it" that means wealth just can't buy it, it means go out there with your character and identify that house, identify that owner, gage his last activity, mark yourself a rune, visit regularly, talk to his neighbors, figure out the IDOC system, and whatever else it takes for you to be there when that house falls. Sorry you misconstrued my meaning!!!

Here is an idea.

When a house is about to fall a GM can take it over.

A raffel can be made in trinsic for the loot rights to the contents of the house. A gate can be made so players can go to look at the house. Players can only look from the outside no one can enter the house.

Players can buy tickets like the current system we have now. Once the winner is drawn they have X amount of time to process the contents of the house. Once the time expires the house and all items left inside are deleated.

This would allow players who are well off to spend as much gold as they wish in private without being judged. it would also allow even a new person to buy a tickets and maybe get lucky. Yes the odds of winning will be with the well off people but at least other would have a shot. In an auction type setting this would not happen. I am not saying that it is bad I am just saying how it would be.

At an auction only the winners gold is taken out of the game. In an raffel everyone who buys a ticket has the gold removed from the game. I think it would be a bigger gold sink as well.

MMO's all have one thing in common. You get out of them what you put into them. there will always be players who have more because they invest the most into it. maybe this would allow something fun to happen and still keep the peace and spear some hurt feelings along the way.

IMO I think that when a house is about to collapse just DELETED the house and everything in it.... why? you ask....

1. ' X ' player work hard for the stuff that he/she had in their house either by spending time or gold or RL gold
2. By deleting the house and contents less item count.... less lag.... smooth server... happy players
3. Rich players won't be richer and poor players won't be poorer
4. Less work for staff... less grievance... less drama.... lets achieve World Peace....

It looks like players are fighting for a piece of inheritance left by a deceased relative.... so sad  or imagine that you are in the desert and about to die.... vultures surrounds you for a piece of you....

I second this idea!

Or just cram house and it's contents into the owners bank box. It's just as good as deleted, and the owner does get get shafted should the individual return.

Lets imagine the neighbor across the street from you moves and leaves a 1966 Shelby GT350 Mustang Convertible in the driveway with a signed title transfer over to ____________ whomever puts in their name. You going to tell me that you would just stare at it everyday without taking it, Bah hell no you wouldn't.

Current system is automated and staff has nothing to do with it!
Only drama is here on the boards, houses fall without even a whisper, especially if they're in the woods. You want drama talk about Champ Spawns!!!
Current system has been in place for years. Anyone can benefit! Nothing new here.
Must be alot of sad sick vultures that play this game: http://www.aschulze.net/ultima/stories10/story0092.htm

I like the current system as it is... but what I don't like is not knowing when the house may fall... In the old days, the house sign would indicate various stages of decay... That being said... why can't +Colibri implement this into our Shard standards?

As for the auction or silent auction... I don't think it's greedy, but I don't like it either. Not everyone has the same amount of time to play UO, nor does everyone obtain gold the same way. (E.I. not everyone tames pets and uses them to kill wealthy monsters all day)

Free stuff from houses should be a snatch and grab... not to the highest bidder... other wise just put all the items in fallen houses into +Colibri's Token bag IMO....
Criticism is good because it improves upon what came before, and solidifies the strongest of foundations.

Auctions would be just like people are saying, only for the rich. Same with raffles, yes everyone has a chance but since i have the gold lets say i buy 100 tickets and this new player can only afford lets say 10. Wow unless they are having a SUPER lucky day, the chances of them winning is slim. Especially if all the rich bought 100 tickets, pretty much you threw down money for nothing cause the chances are pretty much split between the top payers. Winning IS possible, i know i only bought 6 tickets once and won a nice raffle that i know many other players bought in the hundreds of tickets for, but again that was just luck. Now maybe if we set up a raffle for a certain max amount of tickets that MAY work. Say like 20? With enough time to play or if you donate, 20 is a very attainable number for new players. Only 200k and I made that doing 3 or 4 champs last night. This way you dont have the rich who sit upon millions and millions buying outrageous amounts of tickets, giving everyone more of a fair chance. Again 20 tickets is just a random number im throwing out there, the gms can set it to however many they feel is fair. In all honesty though I agree with arrow. I like to watch houses and have a chance at getting some cool stuff from before i started, but you should have to work for it. Its another aspect of the game to work on. Like for me, ive done the mage quest, got max pets, relayers, blah blah blah and now what is there really left to do? Some people will just run vendors, or craft, maybe help new players. I personally play for GM items or decorations now. BUT when I am tired of farming gold to save up for auctions I search houses. I like the chance that maybe if I check a house enough, I MAY get lucky, get some nifty stuff that they handed out to the very first players. But I work for it! I mark runes, i check in as much as i remember to and pray i get lucky. Once the house falls then its worth all the trouble and its mine fair and square, the owner worked for the items and now I spent 6 months working to catch it. Now, I usually miss most my house drops :( But again, I cant expect it to be handed to me, if I REALLY want whats inside, then ill work for it. And this aspect of the game requires No skill or gold, just perseverance!
