banned from chat?

Can someone help me out here?
I just logged in and tried to see if any guild people were on, I hit [g and got a message saying that I was banned from chat.
[c, same thing. I went to TC and tried to talk to people, but I guess nobody could see my words, and I couldn't see other peoples words either.

Is this a glitch or something? I said nothing at all that could have possibly get me banned. I was careful last night not to use any bad words, or offend any young folks (real young folks) or anything. I am only a few days old, but I have poured over the rules of this shard and had planned to never violate anything, so I am completely confused with this.

If an Admin answers this post, you can talk publicly about anything in my chat log. I know that what an Admin says goes all the way on the shard, but on the human scale, we are equal. I would like an answer please.

I really enjoy the people here, but if I can't communicate with them, then I have no business here.

Please tell me that this was a glitch, or some mistake.

Dude no worries you might of said somthing cross that you thought wasnt offensive but someone might have been it is a care bear shard and at most its a chat ban its happen to me before also just ride it out man it will be over soon .. no worries yeah?

not sure what context u said that but im sure someone took that as pushing politics and possibly religion in world chat, those are subjects that staff would rather not see in the world chat. shouldnt last long though.

I guess that is the problem with international relations. What is acceptable in some cultures, isn't acceptable in others.

I would hope that it was something else you said, or at least some kind of glitch in the game. I fail to see how any of that was ban worthy.

While I'm sure you didn't find the statements to be offensive, others did and reported it to us. This is a family-friendly shard, that plays host to many people from many different cultures and belief systems. Politics, sexual orientation and the like are hot-button topics that many people in the world feel very, very strongly about. We don't allow them in world chat because what one player finds completely inoffensive and in good humor, another finds highly offensive and in very bad taste. Your chat ban should be over shortly now.

I honestly didn't set out to offend anyone. When I joke around with my local crowd, everyone knows that I am not serious about most of my jokes; but I guess they don't translate to text very well. It would be great to have a list of things that are forbidden, that way I wouldn't have gotten all butthurt.

I'm the new guy (4 days) I can understand why things would be more strict with me, rather than older accounts. If you want to change things, you really can't alienate people who are already established. You have to enforce on the younger accounts first. I'm ok with that, besides +Nyx was so danged nice with her response to me.

I had planned on leaving the shard after my chat ban, until +Nyx responded. I put all my gold into a check to give to my gm, and kept logging on all day hoping to find him, since my chat wasn't working. But, +Nyx was so danged nice with her response, that I just have to stick around longer. While I believe the chat rules are a bit restricting and over-the-top. I will respect them and will try to keep jokes out of [c and [g, and the forums; as those didn't go over very well either.

Thank you for the link, but according to the current codex, I didn't violate any rule.
I'm not racist, religious, or a nationalist, and my ancestors hail from Scotland, England, East Germany, Mexico, Poland, so ethnic slurs would be like shooting myself in the foot heh.

ok, I better shut up before I get into trouble again. I wouldn't want to disappoint +nyx, she gave me a second chance and I'm not going to blow it.

ps. I'm my [c posts, I was talking about being supportive of gay folks, not against them. I said "folks are folks" no matter what.

I'm glad you'll be staying with us. The longer you are here, the more you'll get a feel for what is and isn't okay in world chat. There are numerous players who have been here for months who are still getting the hang of it. In the last few months we've been a bit more slack with world chat because we've been working on big projects and it's hard to keep track of every line of chat, but it's started to get too out of hand and we've been getting a lot of complaints. So, that means for awhile we're going to have to crack down on it until things get back to 'normal'.

One comment here or there is usually okay (if it's not too out of line). But, whole conversations about sensitive topics, or prodding an inappropriate conversation along to keep it going... these things are considered a bit too much and are likely to result in chat bans/jail time. Normally I would have sent you a PM explaining the chat ban, and I thought I had! But when I saw your original post, I checked, and I guess it never sent. I was receiving quite a few gripey pages around then so I must have accidentally closed it while answering one of those. My apologies for the confusion on that matter.

We run into a problem with such topics as sexual orientation in that, if we ONLY tell players to stop who are speaking against it, then we're yelled at for favoring those who are in favor of it. Or, we're told that just because we feel that way doesn't make it okay for us to censor their differing beliefs and blah blah blah. Believe me, my own personal opinions on various political matters cannot be properly expressed in a family-friendly way, which is why you will rarely if ever see me make comment in terms of my own views on such topics. Just because I feel a certain way, very very strongly even, doesn't mean that it's okay for me, you, or anyone to express it in world chat on this shard. Everyone who plays here is bound by our codex, and the staff are the ones who interpret it in terms of the day-to-day running of the shard. I often have to punish players for expressing beliefs that I myself share (including in your case, ladmo). It's just part of the job. We can't take the stance that bashing homosexuals is bad, but touting in favor of it is good. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but world chat isn't always the place to express it. I hope that makes sense, I'm tired as heck today hehe
