Economic Downturn
Re: Economic Downturn
Nice job Walter and Asmo for starting the wheels in motion! +Nyx, thanks for the willingness to listen and implement. I think this is a great idea as well.

Slight twist on the old Clean Up Brittania event! I've seen it in a few different forms over the years, always enjoy it.

Re: Economic Downturn
This is my first post and I have only been on the shard for around six weeks so feel free to take my opinion with a grain of salt.
I enjoy quite a bit about this shard, the people are great! I have met more nice people here than I have met on any other free shard I have tried. I haven’t been given a lot of overpowered items but I was helped quite a lot with information, what skills to work on where to hunt monsters ect.
Now to what I don’t care for. I don’t like taming. I honestly didn’t want to be a tamer, I wanted to be a mage. I focused my early skill development into making my char a mage. Magery, evauating int, inscription ect. I was hoping to be like the old school mage archers. Unfortunately I have found this is not possible here. Magery is vastly underpowered. After weeks of being pounded by almost every monster in the game I gave up and went to animal taming. Now I can kill most monsters in the game without many problems other than the problem that I don’t want to be standing around healing my pets saying all kill, all guard. I think Yoda had a good post in this thread about buffing other skills so taming isn’t the only viable option.
Second thing I don’t like is my crafted weapons and armor aren’t real useful. My goal since there isn’t a skill cap was to craft all my own gear and be self-sufficient. I can craft some somewhat useful items but they don’t allow me to survive on my own I am still forced to hide behind pets. It seems like the only way to play here without pets is to have relayered armor. I put a weapon level deed on my self-crafted yumi and am not impressed with the end results at all. I have read the forums and see that this is intentional but it still really disappoints me as I will not be able to craft my own weapons and armor and be successful. Personally I won’t be relayring any weapons, it just seems like cheating to me.
I wish it was possible to play here like I would like to play but it just doesn’t seem possible. I don’t know what changes would be needed or how to make them happen. I have played on other free shards where the mobs didn’t two shot me I don’t know if this is because of my armor or what.

Re: Economic Downturn
It's possible to play on all original content as a mage or whatever you like. The crafted armor is (can be) better than original content, so there should be no issue there either. Same goes for crafted weapons. You're doing it wrong somehow.
Now with that said, once you get into the content that is shard specific and areas that have been buffed, you can have some issues. But, if you are simply playing classic content and not enjoying the server customs, there really isn't anything keeping you here. I do agree that different toon types should be viable options for the custom content of the server.
As for the thread topic, I guess this would make some stuff more in demand and help the economy a bit, albeit slow and towards a target minority play style.

you are probably right, I'll keep looking for something that is closer to what I want to do. enjoyed my time here thanks for having me!
Re: Economic Downturn
I fully agree with williaml. I dont know which is your experience in other shards or OSI, sometimes playing for too long in the same place makes difficult to see the whole picture. The mage/archer or warrior templates are quite far from viable (without the 220dex). Does it matter if we are speaking of classic or custom content? it is about viablity. Do you think you can handle a peerless as a mage? Balrons? . Also, I guess that when you say "target minority play style" you are aware that most people is forced to the same playstyle as williaml pointed out, because other options are not viable. Please if we all are doing it wrong, show us the wayXavian wrote:It's possible to play on all original content as a mage or whatever you like. Widening play style options, opens the market to many more items that are being ignored right now, which could help economy. And its funnier!

Re: Economic Downturn
I have played on all sorts of shards in my days and honestly its a tough thing to get all the classes into balance, in fact I have never seen such a thing.. why not let excelsior lead the way there
I have seen the exact opposite of this shard where mages ruled and dexxers were garbage and I must say thats worse infinitely than what we have here. it was also a pvp shard, and the tournaments were pathetic displays of who's script was better at disguising what spell was going to be cast next.
anyway for the economic value there is absolutely no good that can come from 1 or 2 weapon types being the defacto standard, and 1 vein of armor quip also being standard..
ironically this is the first shard I have played on that doesn't have daemon bone and balron bone armors for mages which at first was cool but now I kind of miss it.
regardless of whether you play "classic" or "custom" content it should be viable for all sorts of player not just melee warriors and bardic tamers

Re: Economic Downturn
Seeing as how most of the ideas posted in the last few pages are things the staff have already said they're going to work on, or repetitions of earlier suggestions in the thread, I think it's time this one took a bow.
Just to reiterate:
- +V and I are planning to revamp/fix crafting after the facets are open
- +V and I are planning to revamp/fix pets after the facets are open
- Both facets will feature content for vets, mine will also feature content to fill the gap in the mid-range.
- +V and I will be addressing magery/casting in the facets, and beyond if needed
- Junk is about to be utilized for more than filling storage boxes.
- Old, unloved items will be getting some modifications whether it be a buff or more uses for them
- +V's facet (and possibly mine to a lesser extent) will feature gear improvement/enchanting.
- In the last 3 days I have coded numerous new quests for younger players, those will be opening soon along with 5 new young-player-only dungeons. This is intended to help spread the newbies out, lessen resentment/drama in the newbs vs. vets issues, and raise young player retention and game satisfaction.
- Players interested in helping the economy and the shard as a whole need to be a lot more cognizant of how their actions affect more than just the immediate. Don't give newbies so many freebies, let them work for things. Don't give out balron books or maxed pet sets. Educate and support them, give them an item or two to help them on their way but don't baby them so much like so many of you have been for the last year. There's a reason few new players have stuck for the long run, and it isn't just content issues.
- T-maps are being addressed by Requiem as he gets time
- More gold sinks are about to go into effect.
- Deco options as gold sinks will be expanded upon, particularly in Elysium.
- Treasure hunting, fishing, taxidermy and other unloved old-world systems are getting attention in both facets.
