Announcing champ spawns

Realizing there are many play styles, I'm sensing the announcement of a champ spawn is not a popular topic to share in the illustrious world chat. I realized this after apparently violating this cardinal rule by sharing twice within 10 minutes that a champ had spawned and was promptly banned from chat. This was apparently deemed as advertising and I received a "lovely" message from a GM pointing out my mischievous act of shard terror. As the first person at the spawn, I thought others might like to join with my five word message. Silly me.

My question then is simple, I've always appreciated others who announce a champ is going, and was wondering what the proper method to a) learn of in progress champs is or b) share the news of an in progress spawn might be? Given I have only been on this shard less than two months is there some other channel for something like this?

Oh and I likely posted this in the wrong forum group too, so apologies in advance, and I will look forward to the corrective GM message in my inbox pointing out the rules of forum posting I should have read the day I created my account.

I think I've always announced champ spawns. Sometimes even twice, though not if someone else shows up.

It is perfectly fine to call out a champ, but spamming chat is a big no no here. best thing to do is to call it out, if no one shows solo it for 10-30 mins then call it out again, but no more than twice in one hour. I tend to call champs out when I see them.

I'd have to agree I don't mind seeing that they are up. However I have seen players announce the champ once a minute for about 10 minutes. That is the annoying part, and worse is when we say we see it but it keeps going.

Hello. When you joined this shard, you were presented with an enormous gump that provided you a link to the rules. You were not able to move, speak or play in any way until you had clicked the button stating that you had read and accepted these rules. While you clearly feel that it was too burdensome to bother to read them and clicked the button anyway, that doesn't exempt you from any of our rules at all.

This is a family shard, and we strive to keep world chat as clean and peaceful as is possible with this large a community and limited volunteer-time to police it. Part of that is keeping various types of spam to a minimum. This rule was implemented within the last 2-ish years because without it, we were seeing non-stop chat spam about everything from item sales to champ announcements to sports updates.

+Requiem has already cited the codex, which you didn't deign to read, where it relates to this issue. I will relay it again:

f. Don't spam. You are allowed an announcement in public chat at maximum 2 times in the same hour, and spaced at least 10 lines of other player's messages apart.

After the 2nd ad, you were warned. After the 4th, you were given an extremely small chat ban of 2 hours. You then became rude and belligerent with +R; then threatened to quit the shard, as so many people tend to do when punished for anything:

Our chat/spam rules are 2 ads per 60 minutes spaced a minimum of 10 lines/minutes apart. You first advertised for the doom champ, which i let go with a warning over global chat. You then proceeded to repeat for destard advertising at: 5:24, and again at 5:26 shard time. You have been chat banned for 2 hours.

Did you commit a "cardinal" sin as you implied in your post? No. Might you have been given some leniency had you not replied so rudely to the staff member who handled this matter? Perhaps. Instead you snarked him, your post was full of snark, and you clearly think you're above reading the rules. You are overreacting by quite a large margin; one player was chat banned for two years after an egregious enough violation (well, many violations, but you get the idea). Two hours is not exactly harsh and in the end this is an issue of your own making for failing to read the rules.

I personally feel this whole thread to be nonsensical. Wear that chat ban like a badge of honor. I got one I think for using "That's what she said..." in such a perfect manner that I physically injured others by forcing their stomachs to burst in fits of laughter. I think I got one for something else too. I just considered that my sheer prodigiousness in verbal sparring to be so great that it would've been unfair to everyone else to allow me to continue to participate in global on that given day (read: I was acting like a tool). From the tone of your messages and your post, I would encourage you to change your perspective a bit. I've said it before, but my personal philosophy is that anyone looking for a reason to be offended will always find it. Good luck to you.

Totally agree with Nyx and Pariah. Ive been known to cause a stir in global, and when I do I wear my chat bans with pride. but I try to keep that to a minimum. the rules are there for a reason. peace love and bacon grease.
