Me and my wife just started this game yesterday. We know nothing about what to do or how to go about it. I've asked for help in game and noone seems to want to help. I've read some guides but thay are no help as we don't understand them (sad huh). We no nothing of this game.
I was hoping someone could point me to a guide that will help. We know our skills need to go up but don't know where to start or what we need or how to go about geting it.
any help is welcome

youll have to check the Wiki on this site to see if there are any big changes, when and if you plan to make grand (pixel) financial decision.
short list of tips:
there is atrainingroom where you can safely train to 75 skill in any weapon skill. this recuires hours of standing still, and if you' ve never played UO before i advise against this, experience the thrill of running for dear life from mongbats.
Despise dungeon (its on the teleporter) top floor is your best start for dungeoneering, though there is also a newbie dungeon somewhere with even weaker stuff(cant thik of where, only been tehre once, by accident) , and there is Brit dewers, where i get horribly lost, but your mileage may vary.
north of brit is a cemetary, where you can bast relatively harmless skeletons.

First off welcome to the shard.
My advise to you and your wife would be to join up with a guild, an active one, a group whom can guide you thru these early stages off your UO careers!
Here at Excelsior we have so many custom features for you to explore, There are plenty off skills to gain, Loads off people to meet on your journeys...
We hit 88 players this weekend, a nice sized playerbase that keeps on growing so you are bound to be on while others are playing incase you get stuck.
If you haven't already had a our Tour page a GM, using the paging system:- Located on your paperdoll the "help" button and type if you want a tour or in need off Staff help.
If you have questions other players can answer please feel free to use the chat system to ask typing [c the [ is important don't forget that bit
And when you kill something don't forgot we have a [claim command to clean that corpse up, and you will get gold for doing so.
We also have tokens here, When you kill something you will get tokens, How many tokens depends on how hard the monster is, the tokens then go straight into your "token ledger" the greenish blue book type thing in your bag.
Please read thru the site at the Rules, WiKi, and any other important information there is.
Remember we are a:- non-PvP shard (altghough there is an alocated place for PvP), stat cap is 300, and we have no skill cap.
