Re: Newbi room
Theoretically it's just really a problem to keep raiders out and to still keep it functional...
Ok well... although we can expect players to raid these boxes, the whole "just 3 items" is too little, and 3 days account age is also a bit strict and new players can still clean the boxes out.
Another idea: we leave these boxes as they are (and hope that they be used responsibly) and I make for example 10 vendor spots that will be reserved for "vendors for youngs" (to be put in at the next server patch), so that if anyone doesn't want their donated items to be taken just by one player, they can be put on those vendors for small prices. The vendor rental would be free, the vendors would charge only 1gp per day. Then instead of dropping stuff in the boxes, you can drop them on your vendor for 1gp or 100gp whichever you think is best.

Re: Newbi room
That's why I was saying only the main char (first char) should be able to access the newbie room because the first char can always pass stuff over and after he/she get so many skill points he/she can't take stuff out. That would stop someone from logging in a new char and taking it all because that's what they are doing they login with a new char and say hey I'm a newbie can't do anything.
After your first char you should know how to play the game and what to do in the game to make money.
I don't know how to code it but shouldn't it be easy to code only the main char can do this?

Re: Newbi room
the vendor rental sounds like a good idea but there are still the issues of restricting purchasing to new players only and the fact that one new player can clean stuff off the vendors that they dont need. I guess there is not much that could be done except if something like Llexa's post is implemented but put it so they can get more items instead of ten and account age up to two weeks and hope that the boxes are used responsibly.
Another idea i had is having designated New Player Helpers (NPH), two for each crafting skill that can commit to maintaining a certain amount of online time to actually give new players live help and items. There could also be a paging system for the NPH association to use and/or a forum.
let me know your thoughts!

Re: Newbi room
Yes i also thought a team of players who have access to these boxes but well that team that requires maintenance... shouldn't be too few or too many people in there. We could make the council members do that, but there's not so many online...
But still, hmm maybe the council members could do that yes...
Or well the idea of tracking items, but then maybe someone took the items out, dropped on the floor, and someone who would find them and put on the vendor, and wouldn't know they're from the donation boxes, would be accused of stealing.
Well still time to brainstorm about this.

Re: Newbi room
I have a thought!
What if:
Ok, this is going to be crazy... I am just thinking of it.
What if, there is a command like [npitem and you target the item and it goes straight to a box. (or chests you put the item in that does the same thing) Anyway, when someone PICKS UP something from the chest (the first person), it is bound to you. If you try to remove it from your backpack by selling, placing in a container, etc, it would give you the gump like if you want to cancel a quest.. "By removing this from your pack, the item will be deleted. Do you want to continue?" And of course, restrict access to retrieving items from this room/chests to new players.. (anyone could donate, but only new players could withdraw items)
Now, on this note, another issue to address: What is really neccesary to put in donation bins? Do new players really need 100 Wind Chimes? No. I would suggest that we all think about the importance of the items we wish to donate, instead of using the donation bins as trash cans
Anyhoo, this would be pretty cool. Especially if people start to donate things that are important like armor, weapons, potions.. that way, people will only grab what they absolutely need, and not excess b/c they can't just go cram it in bins at their house. Everyone has a fair chance to get some nice items, without one person taking them all. Even if it was limited to 7 items could be taken per 24 hour period.
Cha-ching!
love,
Llexa

Re: Newbi room
I was just thinking about how much stuff goes into that room and I think the only chests that need it would be the pet chest and maybe one for spells and regs for the newb's the one for weapons and armor I couldn't care less if it get raided cuz there is just some much stuff that goes into it
Re: Newbi room
couldn't you add a tag to the account where only new accounts can go into the chest. So it does a check on the account age not the toon ?

Re: Newbi room
also: has anyone considered that th newbie may have worn said armor untill better armor was found, and then decided to sell ?
second point: i dont think its non-new players looing chests, anyone over 2 weeks here can farm spawns way more efficient than selling/trashing reject pieces in the chests.
