Consideration
The one thing I have noticed, since returning to UO, is the complete and total lack of consideration that MANY of the players here have towards others.. is this just an old person thing?
If I run up to a Spawn, and I see someone else hunting there, I leave.. period, I can always come back later, there are hundreds fo things to do, so it does not bother me at all... yet, almost without exception.. EVERY spawn i have been hunting, killing, or farming, however you wish to put it, has been suddenly, and very rudely invaded and taken over.. I usually just leave and wait a couple hour, then return. But, the point is.. do these children even realize that what they are doing is inconsiderate? Or, do they just not care?
No, I do not OWN the spawn, nor do I claim to, my only claim, is that I would be considerate and respectful if someone was there first. I have seen this, Chuck Taylors, and a few others, who, I have learned, are as old as I am or older... All of whom seem to have the respect I give and expect.
When i ask the inconsiderate invaders their age, they universaly reply, 16 or younger.. are our youth no longer taught respect anymore? Or do they just not care?
Hopefully, one of them will read this and realize what they were doing, If only one of them does, then this post has serveed its purpose.
Respectfully; Knite

Re: Consideration
preach it.... i'm 26 and when i look back thinking how rude my generation was, then compare it to the newer ones, it's like... wow... problem is that people are now taught that "everything is ok". that includes being disrespectful, b/c "you need to listen to your children" or "they have feelings they need to express". these days you are never allowed to tell anyone they are out of line or wrong, b/c "that's not right and equal"... (haha dont get me started)....... this reflects in many social environments, and the way of thinking. people can be selfish. I don't know what to tell you except that I agree 100% that from about, 3yrs old up to about 23 are very disrespectful and inconsiderate overall. the world today is very "me me me" centered. it's shameful. even people 24-27 are this way, but a little bit less of a percentage as you move higher in age.

Re: Consideration
Well I do agree with you that there are rude people that tend to "invade" a spawn. There are rules in place for this. For instance if it is a regular spawn people need to take turns. If it a champ and under 8 candles anyone can join if its above 8 then they need to get permission to stay. In the last couple weeks I personally have been champing and seen people come in well after the 8 mark and not even so much as ask if they can stay. ( Side note I never say no unless I am very close to the end)
I think we have had a big influx of new players here that simply dont bother to read the rules or just dont care about them. I have yet to gone the Screenshot route and get people in trouble, but if I see the same people doing it I will.
And I am not 100% sure its an age thing....maybe but I am old and my son is just 16 and was going to play here untill he was watching me play and saw some of the things that go on.... maybe hes just a bit mature for his age.....

If it is worth doing at all, it is worth doing well.
Re: Consideration
absolutely, it depends on how children are raised and how they are taught about the world
So he is not going to play atm?

Re: Consideration
hehe, yep. A lot of it is how people are raised. I remember standing beside my desk in elementry school because i could not sit, due to the welts on my butt. Welts, that i might add, were well earned
My father never beat me, punched me etc, but when i deserved welts, i got them!!! He will be playing here soon btw!!!
Ny Son is also playing here, 20 now, hopefully he behaves as he was taught to behave, if he doesnt, I have the ability to bloody his nose for anyone he slights due to disrespect.. hes bigger than me, stronger than me, and younger than me... but, age and treachery will overcome youth and skill every time

Re: Consideration
Well i'm now 23 and already starting to see how badly raised those 15 year olds are
Anyway, invading a spawn is against the rules, as Sorgon already mentioned. Page for a staff member and describe the situation. We take action against those that interfere with other's gameplay in a negative way. Such a player will first get a warning, then a few hours jail, and if he/she can't understand the reasons why, it may even lead to a ban.

Re: Consideration
I have also had this happen to me many times. When I tell them I was there first and I am almost done so they can have a turn ( share and share alike and all that ) they tell me to piss off and kill everything is sight. If and when I am out hunting and I see another person in the general area I do leave. I am a firm follower of "do unto others as you would have done unto you" so I take names and try to make thier lives hell when and however I can. Yes Yes I know it makes me petty but its how I live. And if I am ever not aware I am in someones spot let me know please.

As i said, it isnt that big of a deal, since there is so much to do, its usually easier to leave. Not to mention... tattling also seems petty+Colibri wrote:Well i'm now 23 and already starting to see how badly raised those 15 year olds are![]()

Llex, Jet Black, BoIO, Blaze, Devilman, and many others, have been of great help in this game, and far exceed and outweight the bad things that have happened.
It is a great community, and I am glad to be here.

Re: Consideration
Ok, not sure how to look at this.
Last night was the first time in several days where I was lag free enough to go killing. Went into a dung to try and get more money for my house and I noticed just at the edge of my screen a message about something suffering from poison. I then moved further to the right and right into someone's pets they had placed to kill anything that spawned there. So then I move further off and suddenly the owner comes by and starts killing. So basically no matter went in that area I couldn't do anything without running into something. Couldn't even try and tame. Now did this person know I was there, did that person feel I was trespassing as they couldn't see me till I was also on their screen. Wasn't like either of us complained or started telling the other to leave. I was a bit bothered when creatures were being dragged to where I was by their running around or all the dead bodies that were just left there. I never saw them stop and claim or search a single one and after a while I finally got tired of waiting for them to clear and trying to get to my kills around all theirs so I may have claimed some that their pets killed or perhaps even on of their dead pets. Did that person come back to the area later and think because the area was cleared that I was being a jerk and taking their kills or just that they must have finally gone away. That also made me think of this, when I see someone running around being followed were they trying to get away from possible death or like me trying to lure something to a place where it's better to tame it. I can't read their mind anymore then they can read mine so I try to just go with it.
Now on something slightly different. The donation room. I usually go there several times a day. I drop things off and I keep telling myself to just drag the things over the chest but never do. I open them and wind up moving things to their proper box. Say finding weapons in the pet box or a ring with the misc. Then I put those in order. I'm not the only one, we put in bags to sort them into to make it easier and as I told someone it's a mistake as they just get taken or as I've come to believe someone will fill them and take everything out to sell them. When in five min the armor goes from around 100 pieces to 0 you have to wonder.

Re: Consideration
Kile, just the fact that your thinking about it tells me your not one that would do it on purpose. Relax, play, and if someone does get upset its easy to explain, and appologise, and move further away. I was talking in terms of people that ran right in beside me, and started killing things without so much as asking. I have been taming Polar bears, and had a guy come in and kill all of them, including the one i was following around.
When i first started the game, someone had put about 6 mules in one of the donation boxes.. i had no idea what they were, i left, and asked someone about them, they said i better grab one, so i ran back, all six were gone. less than ten minutes had passed. Unfortunately, there are dishonest people, what you cant allow yourself to do, is to give up. Meaning, saying to yourself, I am not donating anymore because some lowlife will just steal it all.. insead, the few that get their needed items before the lowlife steals it, WILL appriciate the help. I have often wondered who put those mules in there, and would thank them, even though i didnt get one. it was a grand gesture.
the only way, the lowlifes will be punished is if a GM sits in the room and watches. it is an awfull job. It is also a neverending job unless open account creation is shut off. The up side, is that it takes work, to get anywhere on this shard. Skills come fast, but money does not, at least as a noob, so most of those lowlifes will leave

Re: Consideration
lol. This s why I usually over explain things. I'm not worried about it. I'm thinking about it. I think about what I am doing. I think about what someone else is doing. I think about what might be a problem like them running away or them just leading them away. That's the way my mid works. I see a situation and it starts thinking through multiple facets of that situation. Was just sharing how some of what I have seen around me could be seen as being similar to what you describe but isn't.
As for the other. Wasn't saying or expecting someone in there to patrol it. Heck you really can't be sure it is happening, just something that crosses my mind and I am sure others. It was just an annoyance that crept into my head and I thought fit in slightly. Heck, I'm more annoyed with myself that I take so much time in there sorting things around and then later funny as others are doing the same thing. On the other side it's also nice seeing people who are putting in their crafted items that in some cases I'm sure they could make alot of money from.
Just random thoughts that are floating around in my head about consideration.

Re: Consideration
I understand what people are saying when they say, "Is today's youth just a bunch of inconsiderate jerks that take everything for granted?" And truth be told, generally this is true.
I do not take offense to this post by any means, but I still consider myself as today's "youth." I am eighteen years of age and I feel I am pretty mature for my age. Yes, I do act silly around my friends and people would say that's immature, but it's not hurting anyone and I only joke with those people in that manner.
I know the pain of having someone come and steal your kills or you loot in a video game and yes, they might say, "Well it's just a video game, get over it.
" Well that's not the point... The point is that I, myself, have taken the time out of my day to do something that pleases me and you come in and ruin it.
So if anyone read this and are one of those, "Well it's just a video game..." type of people... Please, try to understand what others have to say and put yourself in their shoes.
I have only had one incident on this server where someone decided to "steal" one of my kills. It did make me angry and I told them about it but they just pulled the, "It's just a video game..." card.
My incident was about a week and a half ago. Myself and Kile Morgan were doing the newbie champ spawn and a person came in after we had the champion spawned and nearly killed. (one sliver of blue health left) They decided to start shooting at the champion. So, Kile and I both lost two PS's (three PS's each if two players, one each if 3+). Then, they go one step further and tame the mule then kill it because I told them they shouldn't have attacked the champion.
Please, have a little class...

Re: Consideration
I didn't think you remembered me being there.
Actually I got 2 so I guess I only lost one if you say so. I really don't know much about how that works. I in part blamed myself for that problem as I hadn't remembered the rule on champs when I first saw him(yes I know it was for him to ask and not me to tell him not to come in). Honestly I had no problem as I was more there to experience a champ. That was why a went on the public chat and tried to let you and the other person who kept coming in to see if it spawned that it had started. I considered that this person might have considered it a open invite even if it had occurred so long after his showing up. Now I did have a problem when after you stated your objection to him being told to stfu. That's when I left and went to the next room to rez my pet. Don't know what happened between that and when you two came out to the next room and he proceeded to release then kill the mule in front of you. It was bad taste or manners, but I don't know what they were thinking or if that is normal for them. I doubt it and know that later they were asking for your name as they wanted to straighten it out with you. I wonder if it's just a general problem around champs as another group had a problem with a champ around 20 min later.

Re: Consideration
Thats Just not cool, I guess one thing we can do, is if you let everyone know about someone like that (Yers i would like to know who it was) is that I, or we would refuse to even speak to them, not do buisness with them period, put them on Ignore and pretend they did not exist until they post a formal appology. I wish i could even ban a person from accessing my vendors.
I have not had much for problems like this. A couple times I have been invaded, My wife has complained about killing rats and having other new players storm in and start killing, she yelled at em and they left I guess
One incident, I had the person contact me later and explain, an dthey had a good reason for barging in, so I felt somewhat foolish for being upset, though As always I just left when they came in. Normally, if some asks, I neither would, or could refuse them, however, when they dont ask, I often wish I could get my hands on them.
I had a kid, who was for the most part a good kid playing on my shard. I talked to him often. he was 15, I think I was around 38 at the time, but enjoyed the chats. However, he went through a bad streak IRL, and also became a pain in the game. When i threatened to ban his account, he told me he was going to burn my house and kill me, etc etc... I drove, the four hour drive to where he lived, small town in Missouri, asked a few questions, and was soon standing on his front doorstep, with a printout of the chat logs in my hand. His parents and I had a good chat while we waited for him to return home, and had an even more interesting chat when he did arrive.
they wanted to throw out his computer etc, but i conviced them not to, we got things dealt with, and I still chat with that kid, who isnt really a kid anymore six years later.
It IS, a Game, but that does NOT excuse being rude and obnoxious, at least, in my view, on a server that was made for people who are not.
Still very much enjoying playing here
