Send me an in-game message if you are still looking to get the rolling. I was able to place a small house somewhat away from the general population, would be a good starter location.

A friend and I have a plot in a secluded area in the forests of Yew that we plan on building a player run town in. Once we meet up in-game, I can escort you there and since you're a mage you can mark a rune. My character Drizzt doesn't use Magery or horses, so he runs everywhere :D

Here is an idea for a player run town...If player housing is available in Fel there is plenty of space for housing. (scratch that idea, not player housing in Fel.)

Also I wouldn't mind starting a character for this endeavor, I can normally play about anything but enjoy tamers, bards and ranger type characters. Semi Squishy people I know. Or even more squishy, a mage who summons demons to do his bidding, or a thief that is seldom seen during a fight but always walks away with his pockets full o' baubles.

I like this thread, it could bring a fresh breath of air to fully relayered-out players. While I was reading this I came up with more to add to this if I were to try this out. No trading with vendors and no macros/scripts. Like someone else mentioned, being fully self sufficient but only in terms of gear, still teaming up with others if you'd like to. This isn't a new idea in the slightest but it could be interesting to play like that on this shard. It's interesting to think about.

My de-powered character Drizzt has reached GM Swords and has hit the natural stat cap of 300. No powerscrolls or custom equipment used. He is able to take on most of the denizens of Despise but failed miserably when trying to defeat a dragon.

He doesn't use magery, so runs everywhere. It is refreshing to not rely on fast travel and makes hunting more of an adventure :D

If you are wanting to start a new character and go hunting with me, then send Drizzt a pm in-game or post a reply here with your new character's background.

Thanks all!

I had to work all weekend so was not able to play much. Dyyr is up to GM Magery but without inscription, he just throws around wet noodles. Several runs to find wandering healers thus far, loving it.

Haha yeah, I hear you on those healer runs. I am also following a self imposed rule to not use insurance or blessed items. This way I have to be very mindful of not overreaching and fighting too many monsters at once. It brings back the rush of having consequences to dying and also forces you to not be overly attached to items.

When we eventually team up, I'll be able to tank for you so you can throw wet noodles at monsters :D

Hi there! I played OSI from around 1999-2001 on Lake Superior. Funny enough, I also play WoW currently and enjoy raiding and battlegrounds, though I play much more casually this expansion than raiding mythics previously.

I'd be happy to join the party, as I've just recently reinstalled UO and come back to my account. Even though my account is over a year old now, I didn't play very much when I first made the account and my character doesn't have too many skills or equipment. I think this would be a really fun way to adventure!

Let me know if you're still looking for people. My character's name is Ninde.

Hi Ninde, thats awesome to hear. So far we have had a few people interested in adventuring but have yet to form a group. It seems being online at the same time is the biggest issue at the moment.

I would love to bring some of that WoW raiding spirit to this adventuring group. I will message you in-game and we can hopefully catch up to do some exploring.

Hail adventurers,

For the benefit of people who have responded to this thread, Val'kuth Nath and I have created a RP guild named Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Please refer to our thread in the Guild subforum for more details, but for now, our guild RP story is thus.

We are remnants of the people of Felucca. Our Felucca is more than just another facet - it is an ancient world filled with the races of Good such as Dwarves, Elves, Humans and Halfings. Much like Trammel, it is filled with monsters that roam the wilds but our cities were safe havens and we kept a watchful peace over our lands. However, 5 years ago, this peace was shattered. The Lord of the Abyss, mightiest of the Lords of Chaos, opened the Dark Portal and unleashed the armies of Chaos upon our world.

In 5 short years, his army swept across the continent, destroying every city that lay in their path. The forces of Good were forced into a final stand in the magical Elven woods, near the place you call Yew. There we fought until the final assault broke through the last of our defences. In an attempt to save as many people as we can, our mages used the last of their power to open a portal to Trammel. Only a score of us managed to escape before the mages were slain and the portal was closed.

Since then, Val'kuth Nath and I have lead the survivors of Felucca to a place where we can settle and begin to rebuild our lives. We are searching for hearty adventurers who wish to join us on our quest to build our strength, so that we can fight the forces of Chaos and claim vengeance on the Lord of the Abyss.

Part one of today's adventure in the orc caves.

Tales of Dungeons and Dragons

Ecthelion paused at the edge of the doorway. Around the corner was a large cavern, full of orc fetishes, scattered bones and disused mining carts. These caves once belonged to local miners but two weeks ago, orcs invaded the area, slaughtering the community of miners and claimed the caves as their own. Since then, the orcs have grown bolder, raiding nearby settlements and ambushing caravans that pass through the mountains.

One such caravan belonged to Dinja the Magician who was escorting two nobles to Vesper. Dinja managed to escape the ambush but was unable to rescue the nobles who were taken hostage by the orcs. And so she sent an owl to Ecthelion, a ranger and friend, who had a camp nearby asking for his aid in rescuing the prisoners. Ecthelion accepted the request and with his hunting companion Logain Ablar, tracked the orcs to this cavern.

At the centre of the vast room was a huge bonfire around which 20 orcs were busy drinking, dancing and beating leather-bound drums to no apparent rhythm. Their singing was more a contest of who could shout the loudest, rather than words to a song. Thoroughly drunk, the orcs took no notice of the two shadows that slipped around the doorway and crept stealthily along the walls.

The two hunters moved from shadow to shadow, using the pillars that supported the mining walkways to hide from sight. They continued around the outside of the drunken revelry until they spied the capture nobles huddled together, in a steel cage in a shadowed corner at the back of the cavern.

Two orcs stood guard. They wore no armour, had dirty, ill fitting trousers and rusty blood stained axes hung loosely by their side. One of the orcs picked his nose with a filthy nail, looking exceedingly bored and rightly so. They wanted to be drunk, dancing around the fire, but instead, they drew the short straw and were stuck guarding these dumb humans.

Ecthelion motioned to Logain, indicating that he would take the left guard while Logain took care of the right. Logain nodded his understanding and notched an arrow to his newly crafted bow. Logain sighted his target and with a nod from Ecthelion, let loose his arrow. The arrow sped from the darkness, taking one of the orcs in the throat while Ecthelion leapt onto the other and stabbed it through the heart. The encounter was over in seconds and the pair looked around to see if they were noticed.

"Well, that was easy," whispered Logain.

"True," Ecthelion responded, "But now the hard part begins." He moved towards the frightened nobles, motioning them to be quiet as Logain searched the orcs for keys.

"Here," said Logain, tossing Ecthelion a key. Ecthelion tried it and undid the lock. Slowly, he eased the cage open and held out his hand. "We were sent by Dinja to rescue you. Hurry and stay quiet."

He lead the two nobles past their dead guards and along the shadows of the wall. Logain closed the cage, hid the two orc bodies and took up the rear guard. The four humans were almost at the doorway when a patrol of three orcs and a dire wolf entered the room.

Ecthelion reached into his jacket and pulled out the magical flute he kept strung around his neck. He blew a shrill, high pitched note that carried to the dire wolf, provoking it to turn on its master. With a snarl, the wolf turned and leaped upon its handler. The dire wolf bore the screaming orc to the floor and began to savage its throat. The two remaining orcs stopped, dumbfounded by what was happening until an arrow struck one in the chest, catapulting him backwards. The last orc barely had time to react when Ecthelion fell upon it, ending its life with a swing of his sword. Logain placed two arrows into the dire wolf.

"Ha! If they didn't know we were here, they surely know now," said Logain with a grin.

Ecthelion returned his friend's smile. "Aye, bloody orcs. Never seem to die without a scream." He pulled the nobles towards the doorway as the beating of the orc drums stopped, only to be replaced by angry cries when the four escapees were spotted.

"Hurry!" said Ecthelion. "Time to abandon stealth for haste." He pushed the scared nobles through the doorway and watched as one of them went flying backwards into the room. The noble's scream ended with a sickening crunch as she smashed into one of the wooden pillars.

Following the noble through the door way was the largest orc Ecthelion had ever seen. Standing over 10 feet tall, the orc brute bellowed a roar that shook the cavern ceiling. The gigantic beast wore heavy, plated armour, had legs the size of tree trunks and arms that could hurl boulders. It held no weapons but it didn't need any, as it advanced on the three humans.

"Can you fight?" Ecthelion asked the noble. The noble, whose name was Bram nodded. "Good. Take this and keep those orcs off us." He handed Bram his sword and unslung his short bow.

Ecthelion turned to Logain and smiled, "The bigger they are."

"The harder they fall," finished Logain as he fired an arrow at the charging brute.
