I've been away from the game for over 5 years. I gave away everything I have when I left so I have a character that has no money and no equipment but lots of skill. Any suggestions on how to gear up and get gold when you're naked and broke?

In that particular situation I would suggest you level up begging.

Now seriously, if your account has nothing, delete it and start over, send a ticket to colibri asking for this. You will have access to mistvale and get a good starting gear. The skill raises so fast it is not even a setback. You will take really long time if you try to keep your current account.

I had a similar situation, but I did not plan to be away a few years, so my backpack was still full and my bank box was full. Lost everything in my house though. I just put on what I had and pushed forward. If you have nothing, starting over would be a better idea.

How much skill? 150 str/dex, 130 combat skills kind of skill?

If not, I would start over. But if you have all those skills built, I would suggest donating a few bucks and using the ED do a minimal re-equip for your character.

If you really want to bootstrap:

escort quests, powersaves and Karate yellow belt until you can buy a full spellbook (5k gold) and minimal bred pet (5k-10k gold),
low level dungeons with the pet until you can afford a team of strong pets and an LRC suit
citadel to build up cash and reagents

Skills I have a total of 4,152 skill points built up

Archery 75.1
Fencing 75.5
Mace Fighting 100
All other fighting skills 120

Sounds like I should keep the account and just grind out some low level quests. I still have a horse plus a Reaper of souls, Cloak of mist and Sash of fog (all 3 account bound).

Type [exex You may have some stuff in the EX auction hall

Alternatively you can donate to the shard for some quick ED, sell some on the [ex (1ed = roughly 60k gold, 10 ed cost 1 Euro)

Make sure you vote in town center every day, there is like a 20 hour cool down. Once you get to level 25 you get 1 ED a day. Doesn't sound like much until you let them just stack up ^_^
