Monster loot...
Monster loot...
Okay, to some this will sound like a complaint, to others, it won't. I am hoping more people will fall into the latter category.
First, I have to say, a lot of older shard members need to step back a bit and when someone says something about the shard in chat, don't automatically assume they're complaining or whining. Often, it's not the case, and I've seen many times where someone will say they wish something were different, only to get jumped on by the older players ... just relax, just because someone has a suggestion doesn't mean things will change, it's simply a suggestion, much like the following:
I have noticed a lot of very rich players on here. There are those who even claim that they can earn over 9 mil in one day, and I believe it. Unfortunately, for many other players, we're not rich, we can't (or don't know how) to earn that much, and we rely mainly on killing mobs to get gold and items in order to survive. This is where I come to the point ...
I have been killing a number of difficult creatures. Dragons and balrons among them. Creature loot is by far too little for the difficulty in defeating the monsters. Yes, I realize that this is a tamers shard primarily and anyone with a good CU and some healing abilities can kill these easy, but remember, many players do not enjoy taming, or choose to try and kill creatures with skills instead of with pets (peacemaking + magery for example).
After a long battle, to get 2K for dragons, or 4K for balrons just isn't worth the effort. Many other creatures are even worse. Liche Lords for example, they should have MUCH higher loot content than they do... 250gp for killing a liche lord? Unheard of.
Now, I suggested this in public chat at one point, and I had players literally YELLING at me that by raising the loot on these creatures, we would be ruining the economy. I'd like to point out the first observation made: There are people who can make 9 mil a day. Now, tell me, how would raising creature loot by say, double, hurt anything when that kind of money can be had? That is the biggest overstatement I have ever seen, to be honest.
Again, please consider the players who DON'T have 5 mules, or a 1000hp cu to kill everything they see in a matter of seconds. Consider those who would rather play the old fashioned way, with a sword or a spell book. Instead of saying, IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, LEAVE!, as I have seen in chat, perhaps rounding out the shard a bit more would be very beneficial to everyone...

Re: Monster loot...
Agreed. iv'e only been playing on excelsior for about 3 weeks. iv'e allready gm'd almost 13 other skills. i still have 10 ponts to go until i have gm in animal taming. i really never have liked animal taming much ive always stuck with my handy necro book ^-0. but ive seen that animal taming is very important on this shard so im going to work the skill. and yes i agree there are very many rich players on this shard. and dont get me wrong im not drinking haterade here. im doing quite well for my self so far without any pets as of yet. this is a great shard i like it alot and plan on staying for a long time. but lets face it the monster loot does stink to high heaven. if more seasoned players on the shard can make 9 mil a day with pets and such what about the people who dont really like using pets to own everything that walks the world? i'm just saying things should be done so new people who maybe have never used any animal taming skills. or dont want to use any animal taing skills shouldnt have to just to make a mil a day no less 9 mil. my only gripe is that here ya kinda get the feeling that taming is a necessity. otherwise you are gonna be gimp. and everyone else is gonna think the same. lol long story short is there anyways possible we could up the monster loot? i dont think if they 3x what they allready drop its not gonna make a huge diffrence. and will not for sure mess up the economy!

Re: Monster loot...
How do you think people make a couple million per day? We kill things, and claim.
And balrons usually drop close to 5k a shot.
There is no skill cap here, there's no good reason to be stubborn and not raise all skills. The pets are there if you need them. If you're being inefficient because you don't want to use 1 skill, then what do you expect people to say? Taming makes a good patch until you get the gear to support not using it.

Re: Monster loot...
What a great responce. I truly agree. For one I use pets....alot....pretty much anyone that know me knows I run around with 9 nobles/mules or have my Bio's out, but that is solely my choice. I have the gear to run with just my bow and or sword but choose to use my critters.Harabakc wrote:How do you think people make a couple million per day? We kill things, and claim.

Secondly, yes the loot scales here do need a bit of love. I am not saying raising it across the board by all means. But I think some of the tougher spawns that drop 200-300 should be more like 500 - 1k. But its just an opinion.
As for a suggestion: if you need help with gold.... 2 things are you under 21 days? if you are then go gather orgaincs its that simple. orgaincs make new players the rich players PERIOD. I have given MILLIONS to new players that gather organics for me.
2nd if you are Over 21 days old then its pretty simple. Train up your combat skills. Your Dex ans Hits. Then go kill and claim. If you can handle a dragon one on one then move up to a Bally. If you can handle a Bally one on one then your set. If not, I would suggest that until your gear matches your abilities go slow, relax and have fun working your skills while you earn your cash.
as a side note i hate training taming...not here I did not tame one thing to go from 0-120. check the wiki there is a guide.
And if you need help finding good spots to hunt just ask in chat someone is usually willing to go hunt.
If it is worth doing at all, it is worth doing well.
Re: Monster loot...
On a good, active day, I will average a mil. But I play many hours a day. But yah, sometimes you get lucky. For an example, one morning i logged on and barracoon was up. 15 minutes later, I had 4 X 120 scrolls (including taming and archery), so I was about 3 mil richer. Later, I went to doom for an hour and got two armor of fortune and 3 other arties while claiming a few hundred k of gold. That was an other 2 mil or so. At the end of THAT day, I probaby had 9 mil, but that is not an average day, I got lucky.
Balrons used to give 5000+ gold each all the time. Now, they give 1500-6000, randomly, average probably being 3k. I still average 300k an hour on a balron run. Can I kill them only with melee? Yes. Would I be able to kill 100 per hour, only with melee, no! I use a pack of nobles and a demon slayer bow, they go down in less than 15 seconds. Claim and recall to next spot.
Honestly, there are many ways to make alot of gold fast on this server (with good luck on drop, I can do the mage inquis quest in 2-3 days and sell the gem of completion 9 mil really fast).
I know player who became very rich while breeding pets. There are many many ways to make alot of gold, fast. But as Hara said, there is no reason not to train taming up. It's an additionnaltool that will help you kill stuff even faster.
Good luck!

Hay bro You are very good at the quest takes me weeks to do it but I am bu no means a powergamer lately. Is it cool to PM you about some peices. Seems I lost 3 gems worth of peices due to decay and dont have much time to rework it....fingers wrote:Honestly, there are many ways to make alot of gold fast on this server (with good luck on drop, I can do the mage inquis quest in 2-3 days and sell the gem of completion 9 mil really fast).

Re: Monster loot...
First of all welcome to the shard Jax2,
Now as animal taming is such a big thing here, that if these type of mobs you are talking about are made to drop more money for the people not liking animal taming then all this would do is make things easier for people using pets to gather money.
So in the end more people with pets will be killing all these mobs while players who don't want to use pets will be complaining about how they are over taking all these lesser loot spawns.
You have been given great advise by other players on here how you can gather more money etc, So I hope this clears it up why there would be such loot restrictions on these mobs, But as you will get wiser to the shard you will eventualy go on to bigger and better mobs and really see why the loot is how it is, and in actual fact it is very good how it is set right now.

Re: Monster loot...
The bulk of EXC economy is based on the average player: his needs (PSs, pets and arties) and his ability to raise money (selling some PSs, organics and arties, and killing mobs).
The people who are able to raise 9 mil in a day are a very select minority, which doesn't set the average prices - even because what they do buy is EDs and organics, mostly. And sell pets, PSs and arties.
SO what you propose is boosting the average Joe (which includes me) capacity to make money. And therefore, his capacity to buy things. So we'll have the bulk of the shard with higher cash income, needing the same things as they needed before. Raising the need for it, but not the offer.
Can you see where I'm getting at? Higher demand, without higher offer? That'd mean inflation. Almost all prices would raise, but people's riches wouldn't - well, during the chaotic time of adaptation to the new status quo, some would actually benefit from it, while others would take some loss.. But that's just that. So, no point in adding more zeros to our current prices, is there?

Re: Monster loot...
j2x , im one of those players that blows thru gold like its going out of style, and my opinion some degree of difficulty is needed to make it entertaining and enjoyable, whiping the sweat from your brow as a young player punching a dragon to death is probably just working harder than you need to, as sorgon said a very well system in play for raising skills stats and gold for young players is gathing organics for the established, Secondly , these players that have the potential to make 5-15 mill a day started the ezact same way you did they adapted spent countless hours buiding their character raising funds to get beter gear resource gathering runic gathering crafting hundreds of peices of armor to get the "perfect" setup spent hours and hours dieing to different things to figure out How THEY can personally do things best. In this is the never ending journey of UO welcome to Ultima =D the battle has just begun all you need now is some spinache pop eye and a bit of hard earned money to go towards making yourself beter so you can be a player that makes more than a mill a day Good luck and happy hunting!
A Black Death, fav songs by candle box rain and he calls home
if ya ever need help and your not a tool just pm me ill see what i can do for ya

Re: Monster loot...
This is in regards to higher loot for monsters and for those that wish to fight without pets.
I personally do not understand it as well as others why you would not want to have a pet with you to fight but if you were to wish that upon yourself. the request for higher loot would not rectify it rather than say code somewhere to state that when a monster is killed by man/female only and no pets then the loot may be higher or chance of getting better loot may be better. I do agree with the few others already said that raising the overall loot would only make things worse. By no means do i make alot of money. I know i can on some days but never all. I do not have vendors i use pets i do quests such as mages and have been working on it for some time. I know it sounds discouraging to know that it is so easy for others yet so difficult for you. However it was not always so easy for them and now able to glote that it is and frankly some of them deserve that ability to glote however if they're gloating is at cost to others then i disagree but i dont see how it can be as its all a degree of ones opinion. I breed many cu's and hunt many things I can say in a 8-10 hr day make my million as it goes out as fast as it comes in but i play the game now and i may not make millions in a day but i enjoy this server i think taming is a necessity but I also feel smithing tinkering or other crafts are just as much a necessity. Do you always want to live off someone else or be self sufficient. totally your choice. either way there are many players out there willing to help out or even lend a hand or some advise if needed. and all they want in return is usually respect a thank you and help out others as they have helped you.
I would also like to point out that they say organics is profitable for new players. I agree however boring it may be it is profitable. you can easily make 1k organics in an hour turning that into a possible 100k - 200k depending on what people want to pay for them. so do yourself a favour grab a coffee maybe put a movie on and kill some rats. Dont forget you can still raise other skills while still killing rats. I unfortunately did not get much opportunity to do that as I was not aware of the whole organics thing until I was day 19.
