Mugen's Thoughts on Shard Life

Post by Vash »

While were down got some interesting reading on other topics, booting my lab shard and gonna look into a custom passworded chat system for the adults to talk about whatever :) to put an end to the fighting everyone has been having over what is legal and whats not...

Whats so funny and sad at the same time is all shards go through this its not uncommon. The shard crisis where one person may make a mistake (GM or Player) then you got the whole mob (GM's or Players) in an outrage which then causes even MORE turmoil and whipping out the ban-batons and Jail Grenades egh.

I was a GM for quite some time, Admin of my own little private getaway shard for a time with friends. In my time as a GM I had, well a code I went by. Nomater what I try to do, nomater how quick I am with the draw, I never will win period. Interesting in that in a position with responsibility and power I was perceived as being burdened with being a GM.I was not burdened. I just did my part, tried to stay ontop of exploiters, while at the same time keep public matters under control, and events :). The real meat of what was so funny was other GM's usualy frowned upon me but the people always would rather deal with me because of the way I went about handling the situations I was assigned to. I acted not like a simple GM tagged character there to throw down upon them to the exact law, but a buddy there to see what was the matter, and remedy the situation, and try and make the best of it, nomater what the issue. We had someone mad cursing in chat, I would mute him/her, warp to, and ask what was wrong and to vent it all out (if public place invite somewhere else), then after he/she was done and everything was fine and dandy explain to them that I had to give a mandatory warning but its no big deal, just be more carefull next time, and if they ever wanted to get angry and vent to page me and I would be right there. Everyone I did that too never done it again, and never had any hard feelings afterwards. I know it seems like alot but thats just the way I am.

HA HA WHICH REMINDS ME of this funny thing I did for those occasions, I called it the venting area. I made this boatdock where upon request or sometimes a alternate form of punishment I would warp players to it (non-accessable to others unless warped in by GM), A or B, A would be for powertrip players with mobs running randomly they could kill crying and screaming random sayings, B would be a podium and arena with NPC's the player could shout out whatever and the NPC's would pickup on keywords and say funny sayings to them.

Crazy? Maybe :), depends on how you look at it, lots of people got laughs out of it, even I sometimes played with it not even mad. I agree law is law, but there is a difference. Like Cops for instance, you get some that write you every ticket they can write you for, then there are the cops that reason and understand and do what they must. Do not get me wrong we still need strict down to the T people in the world for justice and order, for what fun would the world be with just 1 race, or an icecream shop with just 1 flavor. :)

Peace and Harmony, everybody love everybody, seems non-existent these days, but maybe a chat system will calm and cool the masses down :geek: . Take away peoples reason for fighting then you have no war. Eh to put it more clearly I will end with a quote :)

Please Note: I have no intentions of being staff. Only mentioned to help understand where I come from.
To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting

Um, This is a privet shard. Not run by any government or body that is representing a government. Therefor the Server and web sight are not protected by laws of a country or that of the United States Government. The United States Constitution, and Bill of Rights have no baring on the rules of the sever. Having said that the owner/operators of the server/website can make whatever rules and enforce said rules however they please. Any First Amendment arguments are inherently ridiculous.

your post goes from wanting to help the shard to biggin' yourself up saying about how great you are being staff... it was only the first two paragraphs that needed to be there. looks like you were wanting to attract admin attention by putting the rest as like an application for becoming staff.. which is not allowed im sure..

Exactly my point. This is not my place, I am not trying to run it, nor is the government for that matter. I was simply stating my view on how to handle situations without causing too much damage for whoever to read I know noone here. You know its like that line everyone always says. I can only give viewpoints, the final decision is not mine to make. I can't speak for everyone either before someone else claims I am, everyone has different perspectives and this one is mine.

Again, sorry for not putting notice in there that I have no intentions of becoming staff and will have to honorably decline any invitations here unless one day I have seen everything and done everything, millions of cash in my bank and no item I do not have and there is nothing left to do. I want to play here, not be staff for a change. I was staff enough and I have helped enough people I am just looking to settle down and from the looks of things....already attracting unwanted attention.

I could say I am the head of the CIA, or a Korea Blackmarket trader....means nothing at all really. I was simply disclosing my history of being staff in hopes someone might read what I had to say and actually get where I am coming from. You know what my previous staff experience gets me here? Nothing at all really I am really a mirror image of you, a simple player choosing to play here. You know I can only give viewpoints, the final decision is not mine to make or any decisions at all. You also have a voice here, so feel free to voice yourself as well.

I fail in seeing the constructive parts of your criticism Efan, but I am tired so maybe I missed it, either way I am not mad just a simple misunderstanding. My apologies if I offended you in any way.

Ok I am sure everyone knows and I am sure has played on a shard, then it closes just as you start getting good. I for one do not want this place to close. Too many times I have sit by, with the possibility of helping the shard, and done nothing and watch it close. This was simply to offer help to anyone that may want to read it. I thank both of you for reading and whoever else who also has read it.

Don't worry about it, I know where you're coming from and I happen to agree with you for the most part, regarding attitude anyway.
