Breeding Fail Rate

You know Col you could take some of the ungodly pain out of this if you created a deed that increased a pets breeds by 1 but ONLY worked if it was still at lvl 1 on training and only if it was sterile. Say for 100k or even 150k gold. That way you could for a fee keep your breeding line going. The fail rate is bad enough without the sterile rate that I get at 50 to 100% rate at critical times ie at low gen when I don't have many in a breeding line.

Well latest update. 1 out of 2 of my latest gen 3 are sterile. That brings the total to 3 out of 5. Just a TAD more than 5% rate on the average there.

One of the horrible things about UO is the way they code % and chance.. 50% chance means you could fail indefinitely, or that you could always be successful.. it really sucks to try to balance things with this screwed up percentage and drop rate etc...
having said that.. i was wondering why I was having such a hard time breeding since ive been back.. i have a pair of lvl 5 mules that are high level, and have failed six times as of this afternoon to breed them.. they arent max, but they are up there... so i was thinking that i should be thankful i had so many baby deeds waiting to be hatched... of the six, two were gen threes, both sterile. three were gen 4's one steril and one was a gen 9 which wasnt all that impressive but came out breedable..
when you consider paying for delay deeds, gender change deeds etc etc.. it starts to add up.. if its become harder, the prices are going to go up...
i have been trying to get power scrolls for my daughters char.. she returns home in about two weeks, so i thought i would help her out... i was getting pretty aggravated at trying to find PS's when someone that had one of the ps's told me that the champs are now changed so you only get one scroll??? so, the prices on the scrolls are now prohibitive... i have the money, so can afford them... IF I can find them for her... i cannot even imagine trying to get them if I was just starting out... like the scrolls, pets are going to get higher priced, and harder to find. I won't quit breeding.. but i will start charging enough to make sure i still make a profit.. thats just business... but, people yell about the price of a max mule at 500k already..
it is what it is i guess, i will keep on chuggin along until i get derailed completely.
i do not believe that there should be an easy path. it has taken me many many months to get my mules where they are, and hundreds of thousands in gold. so getting there carries a profound satisfaction.. however... had I known originally how long it would take, and how much of my resources... I would never have started.. if I was forced to start over from scratch?? I do not think i could find it within me to do it.. especially if its been made even slightly harder.
i love it here.. i don't like the mining macro pop up.. it feels very impersonal and accusatory.. but i am dealing with it... and will now keep on trying with my mules and see how it goes... I hope your luck improves highroller, and hope mine doesnt get worse!

Thanks for the well wishing Knifeprince. And yes maxed out mules take forever to breed up. It took me over a year before they changed the fail rate to be way past the point of pain. Funny how the last 4 times I backbred pets I got a grunch of sterile pets that almost broke my breeding line. Its happened enough times to make me paranoid.

I am now up to 17 fails on the gen 5's and 8 fails on a pair of gen 6's.. only being able to breed twice a day, and having this many fails is REALLY hurting.. Once upon a time i bought delay deeds, but the expence would be way beyond worthwhile at this rate of failure.. especially if one. ( or god forbid ) both came out sterile.. I have successfully done a couple 3/9 crosses, and a 3/4 cross, so i know its working, just making life as a breeder even more harder.. more harder.. is that a word?

Even as i posted that I was delivering my last hope for the current line... yep, sterile.. fourth one in 9 days.. will PM you in game just in case you dont believe me (not that i am saying you dont....)
Anyone know how to take a screenshot with Razor while keeping your mouse over a target?

I do believe you. I don't like it but I know it could happen. Also I know you aren't saying you I won't. Like I said some others have also said the same just as some have not had such bad luck. I don't know what the problem is.

i have an idea how to do that. he prolly uses cumulative coefficients. suppose you're trying something with 50% success probability. You fail, that means you ARE unlucky. Next time you try, the probability is 45%. You fail again? Wow, you're LOSER. Next time it will be 30%. And so on, until you get, say 5%, and if you succeed with that... "oh! maybe u're not so bad after all", and it's 50% again. but looks like that doesn't work vise versa, so if you succeed with 50%, the game thinks you're cheater, and does not incerase the chance to 55%..

LOL yes, happy mules, but am more or less out of business. i have 4 pairs left to breed. breeding twice a day, I have now failed every attempt for the last 3 days. thats 12 attempted breeds, none of them max, 3 sets that are high, one thats a back breed..

My Mule vendor is empty, and lonely.........

Is anyone having ANY luck breeding High level pets ??? I have managed to get a couple back breeds with one pet nowhere near max,, ALL of my Gen 5 and over pets near Max have failed, every single one. 4 pairs twice a day, ALL have failed every time...

I haven't failed EVERY time but I still fail a LOT more than not. I even fail a lot breeding gen 9 to gen 1.

Well just as an update. I failed 9 times out of 10 tonight and I think the same this morning. Col, this fail rate is way past the point of pain and gotten into just punishing breeders.
