Recent patch - weapon leveling
Re: Recent patch..
The thing is I'm not one of these people with no clue into why things are done. I'm sick and tired of seeing everyone getting punished because of a handful of people. If you're going to change something fine, but don't do it half way and then leave it broken for the rest of us to just deal with until you've got time to get around to it. If you think my post was an attack, then you don't know me nearly as well as I thought.
Coli was the one who brought up the intentions of leveling weapons, my age statement was a direct reference to that.
I said about 1/4 of what was on my mind to begin with, and I'm sure neither of you would have wanted to read that.

Re: Recent patch..
If i were half-[_] fixing stuff there would be lots more that accidentally stopped working.
The system is HUGE, and i mostly try to think about what would happen to diff systems that are related, I can't spend a whole day testing out just one fix. If you're trying to tell me felucca bracelet of binding stopped working, ok i'll look into that.
Both volcanic eruption and enchanted grove were changed only once, they were reduced in power, but this was before any druid book was in player's hands.
As for fixing something because a handful of people break it, an alternative would be to monitor those locations and those players, or to ban those players, but that's inefficient. Also sooner or later more people will find about that method and will begin using it as well.
Btw, if that's your application for a staff position, you can not only consider yourself "not shortlisted" but rejected.

Re: Recent patch..
Why not just remove one of the very specific locations people have been doing it? I've been told you're aware of it(if not you specifically some staff are), removing a couple spawners that have no real purpose shouldn't be a big deal.
As far as the bracelets of binding go, I honestly had to go check to make sure you didn't do what you think I thought you had. But I did go check before I made my post. I'm curious as to why it was even mentioned at all in the patch notes. As far as changing them in the first place, if you want to stop people from grouping what little amount they do now, go right ahead "fix" it.

Re: Recent patch..
The first time I went to monsterous grizzle, a friend (Undertaker) gated me there and marked a rune. After that, everytime someone asked how to fight grizzle, I would gate the player there and mark a rune. Grizzle is the second tuffest Mondain legacy boss and I thought that being able to recall there was intended. I saw many players go there once, die a gazzillion times and never come back. Even with the recall possibility. I never had the feeling that recalling there was an exploit before this fix.
The first time I saw ointments in a dead pet, I was trying to open the corps of ice wyrm who falled on the dozens of corps of nobles. I did not even think if that was intended or not, and who would like to get his 500 000 gold pet killed because there is a 1/5 chanc that the body will contain one ointment. Most of the time I did not even check if the dead nobles had ointments, but between two Ice wyrm, I would sometimes check the corps out of bordom. Again, I never thought I was exploiting or doing something illegal.
Some of the weapons in the game are just not made for melee. For example, the swords of prosperity has spell chan, faster casting and luck. No damage increase, no interesting special moves, no hit spell, nothing. They are designed for the mage or the tamer to be able to cast, have high luck, and not get hit everytime they pass near a monster. I think that this type of player (more a caster or a tamer than a hiter) also have the right to obtain xp on their weapons with spells. If i am right, the spell killing gave 1/6 of melee hit points. And in a champ spawn, the monsters are worth 1/6 of their usuall points. So that would mean that you need to kill 36 monsters with spells in a champ spawn to equal 1 monster with melee in an other area. I never counted it, but I figure most spans would give 2000-3000 xp when done alone from beginning to end. At least one area in the game where I can gain alot more xp with melee. Never did it cross my mind while doing a spawn while holding my levelable weapon that I was exploiting.
Now if I would have found a way to get my pets to all 100 resists, I would have knowned that I was doing something wrong.
Lets face it, while i had a forced two day break from uoex, I tried multiple other free servers and this shard, operated by +Rayne and +colibri, is second to none. Best by a gazzillion miles. And I feel both of you have felt attacked and the prof is that one sends us to a therapy while the other rejects staff application publicly, wich is a normal defence behavior.
As an experienced and, imo, qualified player, I have a few suggestions about the changes that just occured.
1. Make sure that you test thoughrouly changes before applying them to the server. Yesterday, me and Black death went in the crypt to try and find the exit and after more than an hour, we had to page staff to get us out, even if, according to him, we did the good thing to get back on the second floor, but it wouldn't work. Same for the no experience from fireball hit.
2. The changes made will only affect a few players, not in a really positive way, while some changes could have been a huge bonus for all the community, such as making the numerous broken weapon special moves work. Or make bushido evasion honnor work for the people who prefer melee to taming. There is alot of goodies for the tamers on this shard, more than I ever seen on any shard. Why not give the warrior some little love?
Well that was my opinion, and again, I would like to thank +Colibri and +Rayn for giving to the community such a wonderfull place to play UO.
Thanks!

Re: Recent patch..
I am not going to make a big post here..
but I want to make one observational statement...
If you (and some do) had any idea how much code you have to sort though to "fix" some things, you would probably be in awe...
I am no coder, so when i do see some of the code for some of the things on the shard, i am like... WOW! how you guys make heads or tails out of that stuff. Now they, who write code, understand it... but the thing I do know about code is that, you make a very simple change in this one line of code, it can have cascading effects on other lines down the road... and for lack of a better example, can act like a virus and require a specific "event" such as a player hitting a MOB with his weapon and the special ability just happen to go off, which now tells the code to look back (finally after days or weeks of sitting there idle) to the area that was "fixed" and now that simple change reroutes the system in an unintended direction. This is sometimes very hard to locate due to the fact that the "event" that caused it had no foreseeable connection to the "fix" and thus is virtually hidden. Now, if you multiply all this times the number of "bugs" and/or other items we want activated/fixed, the time required to read all that code is overwhelming. Also remember that OSI has teams of coders who are PAID to sit there and read and test code every day.. where here we have +Colibri and +Rayne and I think even possibly +Osiris to some extent to read and interpret all this massive amount of code and try to see what effect this line change will have on other unforeseen code down the road.
These people have real lives and real jobs in which they get paid to provide for themselves and their families. Now, think about if you worked hard at your job, and all the people you were working for complained all the time and then on Friday you got your paycheck and the amount read $0.00 ... you would be quite upset and would probably quit. Then this is what +Colibri and +Rayne face daily. They spend a considerable amount of time trying to work on this shard to make it fun for every level of player from noobie to day 1 veteran the same.
So, remember that when you start complaining how long it is taking for some "fix" to come out. Also remember that you are here because you want to be here. No one is standing behind your head with a gun making you play UO. It is a game and is supposed to be fun. Some of you guys (and gals) act like this is RL and are going to lose your job, wife, girlfriend, boyfriend, dog, cat, car... well you get the idea.. if you don't have ever little aspect of this game working to "your" desires. PEOPLE PLEASE!!!! lets all enjoy this game like we did when it first started, before we knew about any of the newer add ons, back when everything was just.... fresh and new... everyone hit the reset button on your mind and reboot and start fresh here. Things are being fixed in the order of importance of the stability of the shard.
Yes, I am sure that there are some special abilities or special whatevers that are in the game on the OSI servers that a way cool and are super neat. But as I stated earlier they have paid coders that have unlimited time and resources to implement these things. We only have +Colibri and +Rayne. And when they have to take time away from their families and jobs to settle a fight between "grown folks" over some trivial silly point, or track down someone who found one of the "bugs" that was caused by the "unforeseeable" code variances and say " WOW, if I kill this MOB while standing on 1 foot and having my left middle finger on the escape key and press it 3 times as he dies i get 100 million gold... I'll keep doing this and not tell anyone and i'll be super rich and can buy everything in the game!" . These are the reasons why fixes are required and why the stuff you want fixed keeps getting pushed back.
also do not forget the mental toll it places on these two. Reading this code is like reading the US Tax Code book. VERY VERY BORING!! but, they do it for you... while being PM'd and Paged to fix the items I just explained. This is stressful. It takes a toll on you mentally and physically. And... on top of that... when they get their check at the for all that at the end of the week? That's right.. $0.00
So, yes I know I lied when i said "I am not going to make a big post here.." but once I got started I couldn't stop...
everyone please... just think about life in general. If you are getting this stressed and upset over a game... how are you handling really important issues? How are people around you perceiving you? Are you having the impact on people around you that you really what?
thanks for your time...

Re: Recent patch..
Thank you +Neptune for a nice explanation.
Yes it's true, imagine having an incident involving a stolen item or an even lamer thing to waste up your time, the incident occurs at 2am, and you spend time figuring out the facts and taking proper actions, till 4am. On a weekly basis.
But well it comes with the nice things i get to do around here, such as hearing things that fingers wrote.
Oh and for the record, if you want to get my attention please keep posts short
I test things before they go out, but i can't take into account every possible way something gets used by. Even if i spent a day checking this out, there's a rule that a coder can never discover all of his bugs, so others need to test it. Since having a testshard open to preview and test all the changes is very time demanding, i just hope i got everything right, and if a new bug surfaces i try to give a new fix asap.
Anyway, short reply to all of this i can give:
Some of these changes were not intended, I will change it and then restart the server again.

Re: Recent patch..
Nothing can take outta my mind the strong feeling that we've lost track on this topic, and decided to go on getting upset instead of discussing how to improve the recent changes...
So why not lock it down (probably the best to be done)?
Maybe we could go back to the discussion Tiger proposed (which was a very interesting and constructive one, in my opinion), but that seems very unlikely.

Well i guess we can just suggest to stay on topic. But anyway i dont think there's much more to be said.

Also i know how to get out of the crypt and it isnt broken unless the upgrade broke it.
were we told where and how? nope, had to figure it out for ourselves, and i think zodart stumbled on how to get out. its not rocket surgery. (i just had to say that) maybe ill write a lil blurb on how to get around in there but would be a spoiler section in the wiki. but well im actually against spoilers, even for my ps2 i dont go check spoiler and walk through sites for my games. hm we'll see. i'll talk to Sorgon about it

Re: Recent patch..
I will say that Neptune has once again shown himself to be level headed in trying to deal with a situation.
I avoided parts of the op when I commented before. I only pointed out things had happened like this before, now, and I know in the future. I wanted to not become a part of any problem but as a player point out to players this and use an example that I was sure that I knew others would remember and would hopefully not lead to another possible argument. I hoped that it would in some way at least help the poster not feel as targeted as he clearly did.
Now to go back to the op. Fingers points out that he was placed in jail for three days with no reason given. If this is true I have a problem with it. Is it the current position of Admin that any player may be placed in jail at any time or for any reason with no explanation given for punishment? I do not point this out to cause another problem and ask this be considered before a reply if any. It would be more thoughtful to tell someone what you considered wrong rather then just letting them sit and guess. Not all players go out looking to find and exploit a bug or know they have done so for example. Expanding on exploit. selling a hive for more then bought is an exploit and someone doing it one time on one hive might not even notice while someone doing it on a macro clearly did. Both however could be either warned or jailed as an exploiter.
The problem not just of bugs but secondary bugs brought about by fixes has been brought up. While it is nice to have new content, be it from custom or original uo any additions will lead to glitches. I have almost no experience with runuo 1 or 2 but have worked in 3d models and repairing code in the mechwarrior multiplayer. I learned there this was the case. I would like to suggest rather then asking for or worrying about this new content allow or help with removing all the current bugs first. In looking at a stock 1.0 I see how complex it is and with all the customs added in here I do understand how long just that wold take.
There are so many more things that could be discussed just based off the op.
Llexa I noticed your post as I went to post mine but I wish to comment on it. I hope this does not sound like an attack. A while back I made some posts I do not consider my usual or fit my standards for myself. In a couple it was in no way helpful and had I been in the role I would have strongly admonished myself despite the excuse I later learned I had. In this thread overnight there were heated remarks made. These comments were made by people who were upset and while understandable changes not what was said. All involved would be in need of your ban button if you were to ban even one of them. Press that button too many times and it will just be Neptune in here for you to talk with as I think he's the only person who could ever keep from loosing it.

Re: Recent patch..
Well it is true, but I shouldn't have went there. It had nothing to do with the patch, exploits or such. I just felt targeted alot by the last patch and added that fact in the bag of the reasons why I didn't feel much love... That situation is way past behind and I see no reason to have brought that here.Kile Morgan wrote: Now to go back to the op. Re: Recent patch..
Fingers, it bothered you and so you mentioned it. Now if you only brought it up to go at staff then perhaps you are correct but should it not be reasonably discussed? Even if it is just to clarify what the policy is on jail, I know I would expect to know why I was being jailed. Have a chance to defend myself or at least not make the same mistake as before.
