I spoke with Grace earlier and what she told me was upsetting.
I would like to know why Liam was singled out out of everyone that was talking politics and calling names last night?? Why was he the only one to be jailed and told if he didn't apologize or if he argued in chat again that he'd be banned?
Liam and Grace were 2 of the most active players on this shard. When my husband and I started here we had some problems adjusting to the new atmosphere. When I was frustrated to the point I was ready to give up and find somewhere else to go it was Grace that talked to me and helped me get adjusted. She was the one person here that would answer my questions and show me the ropes.
In my opinion we lost 2 very good players and assets to this server over an arguement that never should have gone on in the first place. It's my understanding that politics is off limits in world chat. If we're trying to get more players it doesn't make sense to lose 2 very active players over something that everyone invovled in that discussion was guilty of.
I went back and read the chat log Liam wasn't the only person to call someone a name nor was he the only person that kept the political debate going. So why was he the one singled out for punishment??
I'm sorry, but this seems extremely unfair to me!!
Why??
Re: Why??
I'm sorry if you find this unfair but it was never our intentions to jail anyone, just to have a talk with both Llexa and Liam. What liam went on about in the meeting got himself jailed. There will be a official release on this soon.

Re: Why??
Well i thought this would be resolved by logic but seems like i have to write a little bit about it.
1. This wasn't about what the conversation was about, it was because Liam started to demean another player. Liam was then brought to jail, not to be banned but just to be told in a private place that it is not the kind of behavior we tolerate on this shard, and that if there's a fight starting it's best to just sit it out.
+Rayne's initial intention was to just talk to him and then immediately release him.
2. Because he didn't accept that insulting someone isn't allowed here, he got a 24 hour jail time. But because he didn't accept that he said something wrong, and went on about his right to free speech (which we endorse completely, but not if that is insulting another player), he had to sit out a 24 hour jail period and then it all would have been forgotten.
3. Either there was lack of communication or he concluded things too soon, but he didn't get banned. If he logs in right now, he will be able to go out of jail and play. I've read the transcript of the chats twice and in my opinion everything was handled properly and with a correct approach.
Since Llexa was also hot headed in the chat, she was also brought in jail and was told about the same thing as Liam did, she apologized and got off with a warning.
It is not our hobby to jail and ban people because it would be fun. Unfortunately there's already been a few people that either got a 6 or 24 hour jail for different types of unwanted behavior, but they sat it out and then returned to playing and there haven't been any problems since with those individuals.
Should anyone want to see a transcript of the public chat, you can go to the portal and open November 5th 2008 at 5:00 AM.

Re: Why??
i for one am glad that no [CTH] member was involved in this drama in any way ... for a change
once shards reach a normal size its 'normal' for stuff like this to happen, sadly this time it happened with veteran players (who should know better) and not with whoever just came strolling in.
And though we're no doubt all sad in some way or another that long-standing citizens of this fine shard have left, let us all remember that it is not right to personally attack other players.
Not even if they voted republican. (*ducks*)
that said: if grace and liam return to us, i suggest we forgive and forget. (same counts for llexa ofcourse, but last i checked she's still here)

Re: Why??
First of all, I would like to remind people to be careful as to what they believe without knowing the facts. So why was he the one singled out for punishment??
Liam was not singled out, as both of the people in question were spoken to, separately.
As Colibri stated, the problems occured when one of the two people decided that he was not wrong for his role in the events.
The conversation lasted for quite some time, with plenty of opportunity to respond with a clear head on the matter. However this person would not cooperate, therefore, as a last result, he was given a 24 hour jail time, not a ban, as Colibri has stated.
It amazes me how the false information flies through the chat and PM system. Within 2 days, everyone has accumulated information so far from the truth of the issue. (And I believe Colirbi's post has also expressed this.)
However, since Alucard and I were the Admin and Staff member addressing the issue, I will say a few words.
Spreading false information about people is not appropriate. If you were not there, involved in the discussion that took place in private, then you should not carry on anything others say or tell you, as it may be wrong. Your theories and conclusions could be based on possible lies and misinformation and that is equally slanderous if you repeat it.
Exhibit A: A list of false statements made:
5.11. 08:41 Grace: Good Bye all..its been a pleasure gaming with you...Liam was banned for arguing with Llexa
False: He was not banned, and was not simply spoken to for arguing.
5.11. 08:42 Tezcatlipoca: he was jailed, anyways. she was airing her views, but he was "arguing"
False: They were both discussing, until one player made a personal attack and everything became out of hand.
5.11. 08:42 Grace: seems Rayne aka Llexa runs the place..
False and out of line
5.11. 08:43 Grace: he's jailed until he says he's sorry
False: He was jailed for a 24 hour period. There was never an apology ultimatum.
5.11. 08:46 Tezcatlipoca: she said she was sorry that he was being such a huge jerk
Actual Apology:
5.11. 06:47 Llexa: I want to publicly apologize for calling names. I was very hurt but no excuse. sorr you guys
5.11. 06:47 Llexa: sorry*
Note: A public apology was not asked of each of the two players. They were not even asked to apologize to each other, but simply admit their wrong doings.
We are not here to be the babysitters of public chat. We are not always around. We will not jump in at the first sign of a debate, however, when people begin attacking fellow players, we will step in to cease and assist, as this behavior does not uphold the integrity of the shard. One of our roles as being the leaders of this "world" is to protect it and its players from being subject to slander and misinformation whenever we are aware of it.
Free speech exists, yes, but there is no such thing as right to slander. It is unfortunate to see this from a player-speaking-of/to-staff situation as well, and is subject to disciplinary actions.
Your staff dedicate time and resources to make sure that we all have this beautiful place to come to. And respect, merely for this soul fact, has been earned. We hold tight to the best interest of the shard and the players when making decisions, and we expect that your decisions when interacting with fellow players will also uphold the integrity of this world we share.
We thoroughly enjoy having each and every one of you here with us and we equally hate to hear the misinformation surrounding unfortunate events. Let this stand as a lesson to each player, that without rules there would be no order. And without order, there would be no Excelsior.
I myself will do everything in my power to make sure that we always have Excelsior, and I know that Colibri, who is the founder of the shard, as well as fellow staff members, would agree whole-heartedly.
And this is as it should be, for Liam completed his 24 hour jail period and Llexa admitted to her wrong doings in the situation. This specific incident, for these two players, has been dealt with and is in the past.that said: if grace and liam return to us, i suggest we forgive and forget. (same counts for llexa ofcourse, but last i checked she's still here)
