Excelsior

Im fairly new to the shard and have been enjoying it a great deal. Thanks to everyone who operates and maintains the shard.

I suppose there is no PVP except in the PVP dungeon. Im wondering if Felucca could be turned into a PVP zone as well. I miss the scariness of reds and the feeling of death coming down upon me from other players. IT could be made perfectly clear for new players that Fel is a death zone and anything goes. I would like to see this happen as PVP is a great part of UO as is Stealing (yeah, Id like stealing to be legal in Fel also).

These are just my thoughts. I know others have had them and probably posted them before. Thanks for reading...

Well about pvp, the thing is that, if there is a place where something good spawns (rare for example), and if there is also PvP enabled, no matter how well explained that is, sooner or later people would start complaining about "i want my turn in taming that animal but they killed us, that was totally unfair". I could demonstrate this "law of society" by placing a spawn of noble steeds in the PvP dungeon.

I know that with PvP enabled, then there's guild rivalry and all that, which can be very thrilling and fun, but i think we already built too much on the "no player threathing" to do that now.

That's why we have put all sorts of dangers to felucca - you'll know when you get an Umm on your tail

I think some sort of spawn in the PVP dungeon would be great, lol. I know that was an example but I would love to hunt or be hunted down there. Problem is right now no one goes down there. I like the idea of a single place to PVP but I think to utilize the dungeon there needs to exist some sort of incentive to go down there. I dont know what that incentive would be, Im just trying to think of ideas on this. Im not good enough to PVP anyone really but I would love to see the dungeon get some use.

Perhaps like an underground city with shops and places to build houses? Like a whole other world, an underworld of death and selfish activity. If it is ok, Ill keep throwing out ideas on this...

Hehe yes i know, it would be a nice thing to have a separate world with different rules, but the problem is that if any complications start there, they would sooner or later come out of just that area and then everybody would be hearing about how someone was killed by another player and how unfair it is.

Hiya Huney Bunny i can tell you why noone hangs out in the pvp dungeon... cuz i think it was made for more ppl who get pissed at eachother an insted of getting jailed over talking crap on chat, or any insulting phrase in that matter, you goto the pvp dun an anything goes, for example... now you see to be the person to know the rules of pvp... when dueling an you win, its fair to give the person a chance to get ressed an healed, an ready to restart.. unless the person breaks the rule an brings out their pet to attack you cuz they lost, thats when its anybodys game, the pets here can be ulimately strong...

i was watching a pvp once, an this person did that an so i brought out all my pets an killed that pet... it was unfair for that person to bring out the pet cuz he was upset... now my point in all this, i would love to pvp with ya, you seem like alotta fun =] or we could do a hiding/stealth pvp

an like colibri said, the shard is too established for any player harm in any facet... (if your not in a guild) you should join CTH, the guildmaster is Old Man Alewar if u see me on, pm me or somethin, an ill get you an invite, so he can finish the other part, an we could duel whenever, insted of going to the pvp dun


on a side note... im willing to bet that ALOT of ppl here are totally against the thought of pvp... if pvp were to ever be put in use (felucca), some of em will leave... i knew one person, i made a joke an he went serious on me.. lol ill never do that again... but point being, yes this topic has been talked about befor, an the time befor, an about one more time befor that... no matter how motivated you get by talking abuot it, its just something that wont happen... anyways i hope to see u online sometime

So by this discussion I assume the PVP city idea has been squashed?? Just curious as I haven't heard anything of it since it was discussed in chat with Coli.

I dont mind consensual PvP.. none of this, unhiding and attacking at will stuff.. it's just annoying. I mean, I could take them down, but it's just annoying. I wouldn't mind where, going to fel you can ask someone to PvP, and no looting of the corpses other then your own. That's another rude and annoying thing.. we already have monsters who can loot you, we don't really need it to be player possible, where you can carry out your anger and resentment on them.. You can get looted by a monster, the monster is killed, and you can stomp on him as much as you want, you dont see him in Brit bragging about kicking your bum later, causing you to keep carrying around the hate

That's the biggest issue with PvP, that it is never JUST left to that.. everything gets stirred up, and carried around, and people are p/o'ed all the time.. it's just dumb.

You are really either free-for-all PvP shard with kindess and decency out the window, OR you are a respectable shard... they can't really co-exist.

Consensual, on the other hand, doesn't matter, b/c you have agreed to the possibility of death and you cannot be looted. So it's more about your ego being lost rather then items

I also like the being able to turn red thing, due to murder count, and being able to negate that count by killing evil monsters to get out of "red", atonement so to speak

anyways, this topic is old stuff... unless your bored an want something to argue about how great it would be to bring pvp to the shard, but coli made it sound really clear

It's still fun to post ideas for a new PvP dynamic, even if we don't ever see it in action... it's a tricky thing to incorporate into a shard that is all about helping, and courtesy and such. But still an interesting thing to discuss in attempts to create a harmonious version of PvP... hm, sounded like an oxymoron there But you never know, it may be possible....

Oh Oh!! My turn my turn!

Okay, to begin with a story, I use to play a game called Asherons Call. In the game, they had one server totally dedicated to PvP, and the others were parallel systems. They had the normal harmonious PvM aspect right along side the PvP addative, and they did it like this...

PvP and its effects were 100% voluntary. You had an alter you went to in order to offer tribute to the evil "god" of the game, in order to become a "red" player (a.k.a. murderer in UO). Once this happened, you could only be engaged by other red players, and you could only engage other red players. All other aspects of the game were the same, reds raided side by side with regulars and used the same vendors. There were the occasional red on red battle in the center of town, but nothing that directly affected the other non-pvp players.

Basically what I am getting at is this. Some people may feel like pvp one day, and will want nothing to do with it the next. So, if there will ever be a pvp element in this server I wish it would be something like this:
-Red on Red only
-No pvp in town center
-Multple "alters" in various areas for immediately becoming red and deactivating red status
-Absolutely no looting or item gaining comes from pvp, so none of this "haha, I have you head/armor/weapon forever" crap
-Delayed auto-resurrection gump for players killed by a red status player, where once resurrected you lose you red status and cannot be killed again until you go to the alter and become red again.
(this can be bypassed if you cancel out of the resurrection and accept a fellow red player's resurrection attempt if you are being revived by a red pvp party member. The idea is to keep people who are down and currently disadvantaged at pvp from being res-killed over and over again)

Key: Voluntary all 360 degrees around the situation

This is all theoretical of course, I'm no programmer. This is basically an idea of a layout I would support as being okay if in the unlikely event that the element of global PvP was added to this shard. However, I understand that the playerbase of this shard was built by those who value co-existance with one another in the shard atmosphere. I joined this shard for this very reason, I was sick of my last shard where I would be killed after farming gold for 2 hours. So, I would be totally happy if in the end everything stayed the way it current is and Colibri and everyone else decided to keep things the way they are. I was just thinking of an idea of adding something a few players are curious about in a way that wouldn't eventually lead to hard feelings and conflict in the shard.

Hmm yes that might work... "click yes if you want others to attack you". Still i'd limit that to felucca. So if you are in felucca and you have went to a special altar and set your pvp stance to on (this could be changed only once per, for example 24 hours), you could attack other people with the same status and they could attack you.

Corpse looting? I guess better not?

Anyway if this idea gets well defined there would still be a poll and it would be put in only if a majority of players approve it (i'd say over 66%).

Yeah, fair enough. I'm with you on the overwhelming majority of the shard being interested in such a huge orientation addition. It certainly would add some elements. I'm also on Llexa's side with respect to wondering what kind of players we would be inviting to the shard. I wouldn't want a change like this to invite the garden variety pvp scumbags of other shards over here to this well established and mostly harmonious atmosphere, so...hmmmm. However, a well defined PvP system avaliable to newcoming players would probibly communicate a safe venturing process for the mostly PvM people and a "this is not what you are looking for" message for those PvP players who are out soley to piss someone off. Definately something to think about. Fel PvP will more than likely be a double-edged sword, but I suppose its a measure of costs and benefits.

bravo licos... wonderful layout, an id support this... but... theres alota ppl with a past of being red back on osi, i was one of em, then of course when AoS came out, how many reds quit, an started a mage/tamer, etc... I was one of em, then it got kinda sad, so i stopped osi, then one of my friends who was playing these free shards, started telling me All about it, from getting all skills maxed, to getting the rarest items in game, well osi's rarest items, like A White Wryms Heart... stuff like that, convinced me enough to stop osi forever, an start these, an i will admit, theres still a lil pvp, with the shard i started, i went back to pvp, well every server is diff, so i quit pvp all together an went to pvm... got into the whole animal breeding, the evo system, to bio pets... that was a blast, but that shard still had the effects of pvp, an well u get someone that is really powerful, an here you come along u get owned, an bring out your "powerful" pet an they own that like a mongbat... then the whole "Go back to your little corner newbie" etc.. so i went shard hoping, an pretty much every shard had a similar edge, here are "pvp areas" then "non pvp areas" ... so i quit a few years then came back an i just wanted to shard that had little or nothing to do with pvp, an a friendly one at that... i found Excelsior, an it had a little area known as the "pvp dungeon" where 2 ppl can take it out (if needed) .... an the community was awesome, the warm welcome, the free "start" out stuff, it was great...

pvp will always have that "hate" in the backround no matter how you make the frosting on the cake look... once u get past that, its no longer fun an games, an youll eventully turn a great community into ... well something other then great...

and that may not happen right away, who knows it may be fun for a long time... but also think, the ppl right now might be for all fun an games... but how bout the new ppl that join, an they take it serious, then you got the ppl who were about fun an games, now they take it to the next lvl... an the story continues... p.s. i would take it to the next lvl, becuz its pvp...

so you see my point... i dont wanna leave an find another shard without pvp, becuz some ppl Want pvp on Excelsior... there are tons of shards that have pvp, an pvm... but my question is: how are those communities? friendly?, warm-welcoming?, or is it when you log on you can see the pvp element on your screen...

but your layout is really good... i wouldnt mind seeing something in the pvp dungeon
