Auction - Vendor Type Stone/Merchant - thoughts...

Post by Athena Tenebris »

I thought I would start a new thread for the idea behind an Vendor Stone/Merchant for thoughts and ideas especially as the other thread was spiraling off topic =)

I like the idea behind having a merchant for rare items but if possible it would be nice if it was randomized to a certain extent.

If i recall right, in World of Warcraft (haven't played in years) there was a merchant that sold some rare items. It was random when an item would pop-up for sale and the type of item was random.

If coding allowed it I think something along these lines may be fun. Similar to the titan's hammer in Doom you would need to check every so often to see what (If any) items are for sale and then if you wanted to purchase said item.

Alternatively as opposed to just buy it now; a bidding type system would take place. Item on sale for 1 day or 7 days (whatever) and highest bid at end gets it.

Honestly not sure how hard something like this would be needed to add; but it does not always have to be the high end items. Those could be more rare like they are.

It also would not interfere with monthly auctions and grand auctions I think. There is an appeal of going to the auctions and fun to be had even if you can not afford it or are outbid by someone who has more money than you or just wants the item more than you.

How about replacing the raffles in Trinsic with item auctions. They sit there for 1-2 weeks and you can go and put in a bid for whatever item is there. Highest bidder at the end wins. However, if a bid is made in the last minute there needs to be at least 1 minute time added back on to give the opportunity for anyone else to bid (similar to what online auction sites do).

Thoughts?

The people online when the auction ends would win nearly everytime since they could outbid with last min bids.

What I think would be better would be a silent auction.
Each person interested could place 1 bid. And when the timer ends person with the highest bid wins.

No one can see who or what the other bids are, or what the current top bid is.
Maybe add a feature where you can change your bid (say you now have 4 million gold more now, then when you placed your bid and want to up bid to increase your odds. Or you spent 5 million of the gold you had when you placed bid and need to lower your bid.

The bid amount should come directly out of your bank at the time you placed bid. To prevent you from bidding an amount you cant afford to pay, and to help prevent you from spending the gold held in reserve for the auction.

If you like this idea, your in luck. It's basically the Trinsic Raffle with a different way to describe the mechanic.
