I started out 17 years ago with UO on a private shard using one of the older clients. Played for about a year before I quit the game to be returning almost a month ago at Excelsior Shard. I remember the sound when installing the game as well as in the loggin screen. so when I first open the exe file here again 16 years later I was disappointed when the old nostalgic suond was replaced with something new. However does anyone remember the song "stones"? and when did they change the sound?
here is the orignal sounds in two version which i still listen to from time to time:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X1gC3BLq2w can't remember which version is the most original.
The orignals who made the sound also made a lyrics for the song which can be found at: http://bootstrike.com/Ultima/Online/lyric.php
Long ago ran the sun on a folk who had a dream
And the heart and the will and the power:
They moved the earth; they carved the stone; moulded hill and channeled stream
That we might stand on the wide plains of Wiltshire
Now men asked who they were, how they built and wonder why
That they wrought standing stones of such size
What was done 'neath our shade? What was pray'ed 'neath our skies
As we stood on the wyrd plains of Wiltshire
Oh what secrets we could tell if you'd listen and be still
Rid the stink and the noise from our skirts
But you haven't got the clue and perhaps you never will
Mute we stand on the cold plains of Wiltshire
Still we loom in the mists as the ages roll away
And we say of our folk, "they are here!"
That they built us and they died and you'll not be knowing why
Save we stand on the bare plains of Wiltshire
And here are some fan made versions with lyrics of the song

Where did the old theme song go?
Re: Where did the old theme song go?
Dude, this takes me *back*. I can't believe how hard nostalgia hit me listening to that song for the first time in probably... 25 years.
UO was the first MMO I ever played. I played with my Dad during the alpha and into the beta. My dad was a huge PKer and I was quietly over here just trying to be an animal tamer. A lot of time spent on the loading screen (because dial up, yo) listening to that song. We were there the day Lord British got PK'd. (Though freaking heck you could barely see what happened because the lag was so terrible.)
I've got nothing for you, just had to post this bit. Thanks! I sent it to my dad, too.

Im glad that you could enjoy it. and I hope your father will do just as well. half of this post was just for the wake up of the nostalgia. although I'm interested in the facts as well. I hope more will find it interestingJantra wrote:I've got nothing for you, just had to post this bit. Thanks! I sent it to my dad, too.

Re: Where did the old theme song go?
You know you can add them back into the game? In fact you can add any music and sounds you want to UO. I have it so stones2 plays in almost all overworld areas on excelsior. For combat I have always hated the UO combat music so I changed most of the combat songs to fight music from the game Chrono Trigger. Sounds much better now.
Just copy the songs into music\digital and rename them over whatever area you want. You can backup the original songs if you want.
