Cygnus Writing Contest 2021

Post by Cygnus »

It is time to challenge the talented people of Excelsior to another writing contest. Rules and prizes will be the same as last year. Please visit this thread from last years contest for information. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=13002&p=74990&hilit ... est#p74990
A few things I would like to note:
Every story submitted last year were very well written. The point difference between first and sixth place was very minimal.
I am not your English teacher. Certain grammatical and spelling errors are easily overlooked. It's the storyline that counts.
I was disappointed in the number of entrants. I know we have far more talented people then what entered last year.

This year, your story only has to take place in a fantasy world. But, you will get extra points if it is centered in The UO universe.
If you don't fancy yourself as a writer, but are interested in this contest, please feel free to volunteer to be a judge.
You will have from now till the end of April to submit your entry. A specific date will be announced in April. This gives you plenty of time to develop a story line, construct an outline to work off of, then write and edit your masterpiece. As before, if you feel you need more time, I will be lenient, but this time I will put it up to a vote from the rest of the entrants how much time should be granted.

For those of you who are interested, I highly recommend visiting my library to read the previous contest writings. I have 3 floors of books, how-to manuals, etc., for you to peruse.

Please pm me with any questions or requiring directions or just respond to this post.

Haven't heard anything recently, is the contest timetable still on target for someday in late April?

Contest is still going on. It is not too late for any late entries. I am giving time for players to craft their masterpieces. Real life can be a big obstacle when you are trying to write. For those of you who are interested, please pm me in game. I will give you a free 60 page book to begin your adventure.

The Writing Event for 2021 is officially closed to new entries and judging has begun. Hopefully, the winners will be announced this coming weekend. Judges have lives too.
There are a total of 9 stories entered and they are all good. I heartily recommend everyone to take some time and swing by my library to peruse these treasures. Pick out a favorite and see if the judges agree with you. While you are there, check out all the other books that populate the 3 stories, including last year's entries. If you need directions, just pm me, or find the H2H gate in Chrysanthe's Flower Museum or Junobo's Excelsior Museum. Who knows, you may find your new favorite author or a How-To book showing you tips and tricks you didn't know existed.

Unless you are John Wick, the pen may not be the ideal weapon in melee combat, but it sure can evoke more emotions than a sword.
