bee keeping questions

So I have yet to start bee keeping, I need to raise alchemy and maybe some other skills first.
i was giving a bee keeping book that tells how to do it and the basics.
but one thing i did not understand is how long you have to do the upkeep before the server save.
from what i gather in the book it says if you make your hives at 12:00 server time you have untill 12:05 to do upkeep.
that is only 5 minutes, and if that is set in stone you only have that long to upkeep your hives, then i don't know if i will be able to keep up.
would love some clarification

Jou must make upkeep before 12:00 (using your timer example) in a day after tomorrow or they will suffer, so you have whole next day, to make maintenance.

what about bee keeping makes you gold?
i just know you can get wax and honey.
how does this all work?

As i know you don't need any skills, to put hives and care for them. you need alchemy to make potion kegs, or you can buy them for player vendors. Also you can train cooking , which combined with alchemy allows you to craft things from wax. Wax and honey is how it makes gold. you sell them to vendor, its great initial money source.

You'll also need to buy a wax refiner machine to convert the raw wax to wax that can be used and sold. This machine takes coal to run and it will wear out and need a repair kit from time to time. It also gains experience points you can use towards increasing 4 attributes. The machine is a little pricy but the upkeep is not too bad and you need it to convert the wax. I have 22 bee hives and have been maintaining them for about 6-8 months now. I'm happy to help with any questions. PM me any time here or in game.

Some key notes:
1) You basically have 23 hours and 50 minutes from when your hives reset to do maintenance on them. If your lazy like I am sometimes I'll wait until 11:50 (based on your server time), maintain them, then wait for server reset 5 mins later (good time to go vote) then maintain them again.
2) When upgrading the wax refining machine, only upgrade the "Extra resource chance". When your hive hits level 20 that is the same as 20% more refined wax for your raw beeswax.
3) Machine repair kids are 5k at any tinker.
4) you only need alchemy as high as needed for the 5 different potions. Level 65 will let you do greater cure (with with a high number of fails) You can craft potions "to keg" by turning on "craft to keg" on the alchemy gump.
5) you can craft potions WHILE maintaining your bees if you open up all the hives first, then start alchemy and maintain you bees. (I usually pick the lowest level keg and fill that up while maintaining bees.

1) carpentry - not necessary .. you need only 10 kegs at al for bee keeping 5 potions two each.
1 keg holds 50 potions. with 22 hives you will use up to 44 potions per day.
you do not need more than 2 kegs of given potion at any day
Just buy 10 potion kegs or empty kegs.
Empty kegs can be stored in spellcaster's keys , full one in chest on ground.
Now, the best tool for beekeeping is Bag of Holding. place 5 kegs in BOH and start working bees. Potion will be pulled from the keg.
Reload keg, after bee maintenance fill empty keg and you are done.
3) you sell the honey at "fixed price" to the vendors. again , due to weight it is best to have Bag of Holding.
22 fully grown (at 100k) hives will give max 1870 honey. just sell it and enjoy money.
There are costs like hive tool to harvest product.
There are tools for converting raw wax into refined vax. this can be stored in spellcaster keys. Used for sculptures
Alchemy - you rise it making potions, you can use weak potions to train poisoning and poison resistance ... 3 in 1

I was told you need 60k coal for the machine. How much coal does the machine use up taking 255 resources out?

Each time you process wax, it’ll use about the same amount of coal.

You don't need 60k coal. You can put in a maximum of 1000 wax and 1000 coal. As you level the machine up you will start getting more wax out than you put in based on the level of the machine.
Oh and as you increase your tinker skill, it will take longer between needing the 5k repair kit.

A cork screw will empty a keg. It is something you can make with a tinkering tool

Question how to empty potion keg?
I think your incorrect with kegs. Kegs hold 100 potions, and you don't need to empty them. When maintaining bees the potions will be taken directly out of your keg.
I only have 1 keg per potion and use alchemy to fill up kegs while maintaining them. (use the craft to keg option on the gump)

Or just put some bottles in your backpack and double click on the keg.

You won't need to use them if you use the wax refining machine. I think the recipes were before the machine was introduced (using a pot to refine the wax)
