Sextant of Control Quest Questions

I want to do the quest that gives you the Sextant of Control. I've figured out how to start it but I have a few questions:
Where can I see my progress on the quest? It's not in my Quests screen (old or new) window. I'm trying to remember what the captain said I need to do and where I can find the items but I don't remember what he said and I can't find a record of it anywhere
What is the quest called? I tried searching the forums, google and wiki for more info and couldn't find anything
How do I put the stuff in the sea chest? I can't open the chest so how do you put your items in it?
Thanks for your help. Not looking for a step by step walk through but I had no idea I would not be able to refer back to something after I started it.
