Hey everyone.. I just wanted to say that im really enjoying excelsior. but somethings kinda bothering
me. ive noticed how some of the more seasoned players are rather harsh at times with the new peoople spamming about trying to sell thingsthat most others know are worth little value. im just saying that at other times ive seen tons of spam from other peope talking about things too. but when is a new player trying to sell things or brodcasing it in in game chat some want to tell them to shut up. and quit spamming about trying to sell stuff no one wants. i see it like this. at once we were all young and not a clue as to what we were doing. not trying to flame the forums. and im not gonna say any names but some people need to chill out and try to be a little moe mice to all of the younger players. :verymad:

Well, i do a lot of what u said. As u confessed something that bothered you, so I'm gonna confess something that really bothers me: it really is annoying to see the same message caming in your screen 2-3-4 times in a short period of time.It is even more annoying to notice that this happens due to a few players that just ignore completely whatever instruction is on Ex Site about rules of playing. A LOT, and I really mean A LOT of players seems to just dont give a penny about all the intructions, rules and knowledge that is stated at Ex site, at Wiki part and also at the forum.
So yes, it does get on my nerves this kind of behaviour and I do think that these players should have a harsh time about it.
But just to make one thing clear: I DON'T hate young players (I even help the most I can, the best way I can). I just don't like a bit about the lazy ones.

Last week, the town crier was telling us the general rule about spamming: wait for the other players to talk for 10 lines or 15 minutes between each spamm.

Everyone has the right to advertis his stuff under thoses rules, young or vet, uber stuff or low end stuff.

Hint: If someone keeps spamming without following the above rule, type [c , find his name in the list, and put him on ignore; problem solved.

Well, I never got the impression that there's some kinda prejudice against youngs or something...Heck, most people here always help youngs...
But many youngs don't read the wiki or the shard rules, and when that happens, some people get upset - and even though I don't, I gotta say they ain't wrong. We do have a lot of information on our wiki (and the forum), and people must know the rules of their, so to say, house. And if a question is asked outta lazyness, or a rule broken outta lazyness, how can we censor those who strongly feel this souldn't have happened? How do we justify being lazy?
So, it isn't right to harrass youngs. But they shouldn't go around with no dispostion to read a bit and avoid problems neither. Read, learn, and then ask questions to clarify things...
And about spamming, world chat is, at least as far as I know, a place to make friends. Small talks fills that need. Spamming "wtb"s and "wts"s don't fill it, nor any other need.

I otlly agree that there is no excuse for being lazy. theres no reason why they can not check the forums for answers to the questions they ask. ive not been on excelsior long. and im kinda amazed at how many people really do seem "new". as in never played uo before. it's good to see though because it seems to me like the shard is coming into a mini growth spurt. with lots of new players joining. it was just one person earlier today who made a real smart ass commemt to a young player who was and i agree spamming. but if ya feel the need to be rude just ignore the person. at least no drama gets started. i like this shard because from what i can tell there is lots of cool players. and not a lot of drama.

Oh, this is indeed a great shard, and that's cuz we have it all - even drama. Check the zero policy thread for quite a soap opera - if you feel you have the stomach for it.

But hey, jokes aside, and lazy people aside too, anyone who needs some help can fel free to ask me questions. Just PM me, Bubba Ho Tep.

Ok, There is no excuse for players to break any kind of rules, Wheither they be 'young' or 'vet' ALL players should learn the shards rules before entering the world.

If you see anyone whom you think is breaching the rules, You can either politly remind them of the rules, or either Page a staff member.

We have already had this kind of this discussion, about having a public chat channel for buying/selling, Check that out do a search on the forums.

As you have said in your post it's good filling the gaps in the chat with small talk, rather than filling it with Buying......./Selling.......... We have a section on the forum if you are looking to sell something or even buy something.

You have a vendor location so people will see your vendor and knows what it has to offer, and that means people don't have to walk around the world finding those vendors.

We also have ventrilo, If your logged in there you can talk to one and other properly.

All these things are here to make things easier, Please use them to get the best from them :)

Well I for one do not think this is just a new player thing. Many Many new players i have setup with armor books cash to get going. Many Many times i have seen vets and newbies spam in chat. I sometimes see new players ask the same question over and over but I tend to believe its because they dont see the answer in chat and just ask again. When i see questions in chat i tend to pm them the answer if i can, makes it easier for them to read it.

Spam is something that at any time anyone might be accused of. New players are not the only ones. It is like so many other rules like for example leaving pets alone in training room. I know a couple of 30+ day players have done it and when one of them asked where their pet went, I handed back the pet that went wild and suggested they read the signs. Perhaps I should have just reported it to staff and been done with it but I felt the same as with alot of the minor spam. With other people with larger problems and only so many staff why bring up a minor infraction to them. Then there's all the auctions where they ask no talking or emotes and first thing both start happening. Sure sometime some new player will come in and run up on platform or in other ways disrupt but old players will bang their drums or start practicing carp skill. It happens and sometimes it's annoying, but it's something we all do. I've asked a couple of questions "like how much a +1 follower slot cost" because I didn't notice the donation page listed was for prices as well as rewards offered.
