One of the first things I love to aim towards in terms of a goal is my own 'plot of land' where that is obviosly defined by whatever game I'm playing.

Its been 10+ years since I've played UO and kinda bummed I didnt know about the free shards until now but at the same time really excited I found this one first.

My question is what do I need to know about aiming towards getting my own house?

I remember in the original UO they had the ghetto slum problem where people were plopping them down willy nilly near towns and making a mess of things.

How is 'zoning' done here? Where can I put it? Whats a good place? (Safe and secure not having be high level just to make it home at night hehe.)

How expensive is a basic house?

Where do I get one?

Is it hard to upgrade?

How does security work?

I plan on eventually mostly using my house for storage and crafting though hopefully some day afford to decorate it. With that in mind any advice about setting it up or location?

My ideal situation would be a decent sized house enough to have enough chests to sort stuff and keep it around for a while (I like to horde in games hehe) as well as be in an easy enough place to get to (something about a house portal?) and someplace where I dont have to fight my way home and realize I did something stupid and die by a rat lol.

Any advice on this would be greatly apreciated.

I tried searching for housing information in the forums but all the searches I tried either turned up nothing or the search engine threw and error saying the term was too common.

I will TRY to answer some of this the best I can and somebody please correct me if I am wrong.
What kind? There are the already built houses-customized housing (build yourself) and there are places you can rent (not sure if you can buy or not). As far as I know that part is the same as regular OSI except for the houses you can rent.

Where at? As far as i know Fel and towns are the only places I know that you can not place. There are a few places that have a sign saying do not place here so you will need to look before placing.

You need a house placement tool in order to place any house. You can get one from the carp. shop

Building your own house can be very expensive but is something to work for. You do not have to build it all at once which I think is great =)

For how much a house can hold container wise I have this. I have a small marble and it has 489 secures 244 lockdowns for the max. On my 18x18 plot it is 2437 secures 1218 lockdowns for the max.

The Housing 101 page isnt on the main wiki. Maybe it should be linked under housing? I saw the deco tool and the other tool but didnt see the 101.

I will look for the architect and the carp and what not probably after my newb days are gone. Looks like I am better off spending my newb days training and making money then worrying about a house and do that when the special features are no longer available.
