Don't Get It

So the "need to be shielded from the world" children that play on this shard can't be exposed to any type of profanity at all, but do all your kids [watch cartoons]? There's plenty of drug innuendo (and improper grammar and misspellings btw) all over, but a curse word here and there seems to be a ban-able offense. Priority straightening anyone? I guess they can get [happy], but they gotta make sure they keep a clean mouth?

Even regardless of the kids, I think profanity has no place in an online game. In my experience it will always eventually lead to disrespect and bad feelings. Who needs that? It's a simple matter of comporting yourself appropriately in public. I don't understand why this is such a burden.
But, yeah, the kids. It's not for you to say that profanity is okay for other people's kids.

Once again this same exact post comes up...
"Kids get exposed to this all the time...what's the big deal?"...
So, since kids have multiple opportunities to be exposed to foul language, then THIS place should be another? Where exactly is the logic in that? No drug references, no foul language. Those are the rules of this shard. Just like you cannot pick up the ball and throw it into the goal during a soccer game...its just the rules...

It would be really cool if said rules could be policed with an *IRON FIST* around the clock but we don't have enough staff for that (and they have their own lives to go about, to boot).

Yea it's understandable both ends of the discussion. I'm no saint, I don't curse to offend unless it's necessary or accidental. I guess it's ok if "the kids" can't read yet but eventually they will, but once they can read I don't want them misspelling things like "receive" or "mahogany". To me, seeing stuff repeatedly misspelled it LOTS worse than someone saying s**#. I fully understand that it's in the rules, noooooo problem. Different people find different things to pick at. It's beating a dead horse really lol Where's that smiley?!
Love the shard btw, love the whole concept of putting spawns/quests/etc. in "old" places.

I could care less about spelling, for most words if all the letters are there all you need are the first and last letter of the word in the proper place to read them correctly. I personally suffer from dyslexia, and the inability to see too well, thus if I misspell things I don't want to be flamed or punished for my inability to properly spell. Unlike word pad or fire fox public chat does not have a f7 or spell checker. Just my input on this.

Read Lico's post again... There are over 700 topics in these forums, do YOU know HHHOOOWWWW many times of the SSSAAAMMMEEEE Topic comes up? the SAME responses, the SAME type of problems

so i got input for 2 cents:
1st cent: Apon purchasing UO (Ultima Online) it CLEARLY says on the back of the box
RATED T FOR TEENS that usually means from ages 13 and up... not Down, it doesnt say "For Kids FUN" and so much more ETC to add to this cent...
ALSO- This is a friendly based shard, and supposedly kids are welcome, kinda how the shard was designed, Family based, so the rules are strict for the kids... (even tho i disagree with kids playing on a T rated game, but thats not my call to make)
2nd cent: If there is a problem with yourself, medically, an so on... maybe let +Colibri know about your problems so he may document it somewhere, or note it to your acct, so if you Ever come across where something is "misspelled" and staff can see you have a clean record, an this was due to your medical condition, there wont be any harsh judgement due to your conditions... unless repeated offences then understand there will be judgement calls made...
I think i made that pretty clear

I hate to bring this up, but perhaps if the staff or admin or something are up for it you can do something simular to the shard I normally play on. It would only be a slight amount of daily or near-daily job.
Take off the free player creation so that you guys have to send them a name/pw. Create a Forum for Applications. Tell them first off that you guys don't accept anyone under 13 and if they are found lieing or clearly not of a mature age, they will be kicked/banned/blocked. (If nothing else, due to the average "rating" of the game.) 2nd Ask them these questions so that you can judge to accept them or decline them. If they are under 18, you can add a script (I know everyone HATES to hear "Add script") saying [minor] after their name. Like... attatch the tag to their account somehow.
the questions could be simple or complex depending on what you guys are up for.
Name
Email (for sending account name/pw)
DOB (just leave it as dob if they don't get it, then they probably aren't old enough anyway lol)
What is your main interest and why? I.e. crafting, fighting, exploring, socializing (to gather a sence of who they are/maturity/etc)
How'd you hear about the shard?
and yes this is added work and it can be any annoying but if this before mentioned problem happens often, this might help.
once I get the program installed tonight, I'll log on and check it out. If you guys need help or want to implament this thought, feel free to ask.
babydluv81@hotmail.com. I float around the forums anyway.
P.S. another option, if you guys don't have it already, have a town/establishment for JUST mature/adult rp etc. A safe place away from the "kids" aside from just their own houses.
P.S.S. I can be a horrible speller at times and I'm 24... if you get ticked off over continued spelling, sometimes we might not realize it's a miss-spelling. Just give us a heads up and yes sometimes people will just ignore you, other times they'll take note and sometimes forget.. so just be/continue being patient till they remember or catch on.

Well manual account creation (or at least something where we would just confirm a creation of an account) would be very time consuming, and still there would be people who would say all nice things about themselves, only to cause trouble once they get in. Date of birth and all that... well anyone can just make those up

And then there's the problem if, the people who would authorize these things, to be busy enough in RL or simply want some time off, and no accounts would be authorized over 3 days. Then emails would start coming and it's 3x the work to then reply to those emails with "sorry for the delay, your account is now active".
Right now, I'm not sure how it is so, but there's very few incidents. We all get along and it seems that whoever comes around to cause trouble, sees that we're friendly people who aren't interested in drama.
As for the adults area, well there's an idea of a joined server, to which you would login just normally, and that second world would be the same as the primary one, except that for example the global chat [c would only be sent to those that are in the same world as you - allowing basically two shards in one shard. There's been some concerns about whether that would work out, community-wise, because those problems that happen on the adult server, might eventually bleed through. In any case, it's something I would consider if/when we pass the 200 online milestone.

As it has been said many times before where this topic is a never ending one it seems. I don't understand why it is so difficult to just be respectful and conduct yourself accordingly regardless of age, gender or mental capacity. Some have commented this game was designed for T for teen and that it happens too often that they hear the wrong words so whats it matter.
I personally have three children and yes they may hear not so nice words in many different places however that doesn't mean I am gonna stop caring and let all break lose. Nor would i encourage the cussing/profanity or even the increase in "adult" conversation in public chat. I believe that is why they have private chats personal chats and channels to be able to converse. Some also say or feel that ok its 4 am to me so kids are asleep I can say what i wish. That may be the case for the one its 4am for but another place it could be 4 pm and their child is very well playing, so why not just conduct yourselves in a respectful, well spoken fashion all the time. Is it really that hard to want to improve yourself to be able to speak well and not be so ignorant to it and want to be foul mouthed and not care about others?
I am not a saint either by any means but I do choose when i say what at what time. For example: I will speak differently when i am with friends then when I am at work and again differently in front of children. You just have to be apparent to your surroundings and think of others before yourself. They make this a family server for a reason, and personally I am glad for it and why I had decided to return to this shard.

That rating was just to cover OSI's collective butt since they couldn't control everything that could happen on an online game. I am pretty sure there is nobody on this shard that Colibri and company has charged for the client or to play on Excelsior. The plain matter of fact is it is what it is and if it doesn't work for you matureness or your nature, then perhaps you should look into other shard options that cater to that atmosphere. Undertaker, this was not aimed towards you btw. I just quoted your point of the Teen rating to make an observation that it really has no bearing here.
