Laptop destruction

Post by Kaiana »

Today my laptop which Fiacha uses to play from was destroyed by a bottle which fell on the screen. The company which I bought it from has an accidental damage plan, but apparently the plan only covers damage to the system when the system is dropped, not when something is dropped ON it. Thanks to this technicality, I'm going to have to pay for the screen repair, and I really doubt I can afford it. So basically I'm saying Fiacha and I won't be able to play together anymore for a while. :(:(

The funny thing is, before they took my information on the phone, I should have hung up after I found out about the technicality of the warranty and called back and lied. Because I told the truth about how it happened, I'm getting punished. If I had lied, I could have gotten it fixed for free. Maybe I'll try changing my story, but I don't know if it will work. I can be fairly convincing verbally, so we'll see I suppose.

For the curious, here's a shot of what happened:

Sorry to hear about your laptop. Have you tried looking at ebay for a replacement screen for it yet? You might even be able to find the same laptop there just with a bad mainboard for pretty cheap. Though on the brighter side, a good pic of your lcd while its on would make an awesome desktop wallpaper :D

It is a wicked pic that would be a cool wallpapaer
After this iccendent I found myself finally on the phone with my lap top company. I had been distracted to call and have mine fixed for some time. This incident gave me the motivation I needed I suppose. But of course I had to FIGHT to get what I needed. Even though I had spent 127 dollars on a warranty of 2 years for accidental protection (my lap top stopped working without me doing ANYTHING to it so a reg warrenty would have been fine), the issue occured when they informed me that although I paid for it and even had my order number, since it was not registered it was not valid. Basically she tried to inform me that I had paid 127 dollars for a peice of paper, for nothing. Pretty much this is their way of tricking people, of informing them they will be safe for 2 years and not to worry, but then not clearly stating that the warranty is not valid without registration. Of course I yelled and complained, while she tried to use the phrases they taught her to use like "it is clearly stated on our site" and the like. Although if it were stated clearly enough I wouldnt have had this problem. I see no reason why they even argued with me the only thing I can think of is that they lose NOTHING from allowing me the warranty access but gain 127 dollars as well as MORE if I chose to have them fix it if they chose not to accept my warranty. Just a shameless trick to take advantage of people who may be a bit busy and clueless, but of course I did not back down. In the end they gave me what I had paid for, I did not ask for more nor did I expect more, all I wanted was what i paid for.

That sucks, You must have gotten a newbie salesperson, or a bad one. Any warranty I have gotten, from Best buy, circuit city, or even the toy store, all gave me a pamplet with my receipt stapled in it and all the info was verbally told to me and in the pamplet about registering. Bad sales people.

Oh there is NO doubt in my mind that if i would have gone to a store they would have informed me, but I purchased mine directly from the company and online. If I would have gotten it from a store I would have been told of course but also I would have to pay possibly 100 dollars or more, than what the site would charge. It always costs more when you include a middle man and I wanted to avoid that. But now I know better not to be tricked and I'm lucky I was loud enough and persitant enough with them to get what I wanted.
