Questions about Mining

Hi guys, i would like to know more about mining in Excelsior. I was searching for topics related about this but i didn't seem to find any. As i can see there are more types of ore here, but i almost gm'd Mining and i keep getting iron ore and some shadow ore. Am i doing something wrong? Are there special places to mine to get other types of ore? i am working in average caves, like minoc's, or near covetous, and so on.
Is there some guide about this skill use on this shard over there? Any info that you guys could share with me about this will be much appreciated!
Cheers.

There is a very nice list on the wiki describing skill level needed for each ore. It is under crafting/resources. As for where you could find these ores, well try the mook mines in malas. The ores are random in location but mook mine is fairly vast so i would think that all the ores are represented in there. If you are new i highly recommend reading the wiki, it's got most of the info that newer players ask about and i have yet to find it a waste of time.

Thanks for the info, yes i am new here, joined about a week ago. I was following the skill guides of the wiki, very helpful. Where is exactly located Mook Mines? i found Mook town in Malas, but i don't see any mines entrance nearby.
Cheers!

Welcome to the shard. I am sure you'll find this shard a nice place to call home for many months. As far as Mook Town Mines are concerned, just head south and east along the road formt the town and you can't help but run into the mine.

As far as ores are concerned, if you have GM'd mining then you should get a variety of ores up to valorite Ido believe. To start harvesting the custom ores, you'll need to purchase powerscrolls to raise you level aboue 100. My opinion is to save up for a 120 power scroll so you can mine Electrum and Platinum. I am not sure what they are going for these days but some vendors have very good deals on them.

As far as where to mine, there are numerous safe areas to mine with the Mook Town Mines being one of the largest caves which also happen to have forges in to help smelt your hard days work. But you can also mine the edges of almost all the mountains, the edges around Umbra in Malas and if wanting, you can even mine the smooth rocks that stick out of the ground throughout the shard.

If mining is going to be a vocation for this character, then invest in a mobile forge and metal workers keys as well. That will save ayou plenty of trips to a forge and you won't have to drag pack animals along.

Thanks, i found Mook mines, cool place to mine quietly. I've seen some PS to increase my mining, about 500k gp, seems that i will have to gather some money to be able to craft the best items in the server. Besides from Organic hunting (until i reach those 21 days of my account), what would be good ways to make money in Excelsior? I see a lot of new stuff that i never saw before, it would be nice if you enlight me a little about some moneymaking methods.
And yes, i intend to be, at least for now, a crafter, always loved that part of the game.
Cheers!

We at Golden Goddess only charge 200k for 120 Mining, so if you're seeing it for 500k tell 'em to drop dead. :P If we don't have one in stock you can get on the waiting list for it (Mining shouldn't be hard for us to come by).

Mining and Lumberjacking work in 6x6 and 4x4 grids, respectively. So if you mine a spot that has Copper, chances are that the tiles 1-3 to the East, West, North and South are also part of that Copper vein. I highly recommend Cyberpope's Mining Radar from the EasyUO Public Script Library, it almost makes Mining fun (at the very least, much easier)!
