Skill books section is finished so I am removing the major part of this post, though I still am looking for remove trap training tips so if you have them, shoot em out ^_^.

Remove Trap (50k)
I think I can save you 50k here. When I first started many moons ago, my primary method of income was looting dungeon chests as I was not using pets at the time. (yes, you can play this game without pets!) I worked hard on raising lockpicking and removing trap. Although the lockpicking skill rasied pretty decently, remove trap did not. It was extremely slow gaining and painful. So painful that I decided to use one of my two skillballs to get me to GM. ( I told you I have been around a while didn't I?) It was after I did this that I found that the skill is basically a waste of time. You can safely set off any dungeon trap from 1 tile away without damgae and 2 tiles away from prisoner chests without damage or revealing yourself if in stealth mode. So, having the skill is basically pointless. I am probably the only one and will be the only GM Remove Trap player here on this shard. From a selfish point, I would like to see the 1 to 2 tile safety zone removed so players would have to train that skill, but I am sure that would be just me.
Anyways, I commend your endeavor and wish you luck. If you need a book on Tracking I suggest not writing it either as it is another skill that is useless here at this time.

I definitely appreciate the thought Cygnus, and I could not agree more. Even during the old days I did not know many people that had remove trap (granted this was before the factions started and it was needed). Me personally, I use Telekinesis and call it good :D. But on that same chord, I am making a book for every skill possible even the totally useless ones (like Forensic Eval, Taste Identification, and the like), just in case things change in the future (hopefully this place and myself will be around for awhile) or someone wants it for Role Playing purposes. Not going to go into detail on what changes could hypothetically occur since I don't want to start a long discussion on "We should" or "We should not" have whatever, but if certain changes happen the skills will be useful again, which is the reason for asking for them anyway. Again, thanks much bud on trying to save me some cash ^_^.

remove trap is painfull for sure but its possible to gm it just by working on dungeon chests 92-gm will only gain on lvl 3-4 dungeon chests

thats the way it worked for me but i agree with cygnus it is slooow and i admit at one point i almost gave up
oromis i dont have runes for the lower end of the skill but id be happy to copy my 2 picking books they should work fine for remove trap around 80-gm

Ok may be crazy sounding way to do it but.........

Remove trap I but a box in my house. Cast magic trap on it and use remove trap.

@Rune
Interesting, I assume by lack of mentioning that the 30 (assuming trained by NPC) to 92 would be attained from Level 1-2 chests? Well, on the rune books what exactly are they leading to? I would like having a place where the players could raise the skill, but in the same hand I don't want to inadvertently have a new player drop into Shame 3 ^_-.

@Kile Morgan
Very very nice, this is exactly the type of tip that would be useful to players clueless on the skill, you know people not me....ok...me :D. Can you tell me though, how high were you able to raise the skill using said method? Did it go all the way to GM?

Thank you both for your replies ^_^

I stopped at around 60. They way I was doing it first I lowered mage skill then trapped chest and tried to remove the trap. Then made a script that would cast trap try to untrap and then open the box to make sure the trap was removed. Then used a bandage to also raise healing. Worked ok till I fell asleep. My mage skill is capped at gm so I'm not sure how far up it can take it before needing 110/115/120. Thought it was a good way to raise multiple skills at once but also if you run out of bandages or mana if you use spirit speak sooner or later you could die if you do it afk. like many times got sidetracked by something else and haven't gotten back to it, not to mention till now I've never suggested it since my jumping off the 3rd story of my house then using a bandage idea. (It does work but for some reason it wasn't well received) :shock:

im afraid none of my spots are safe and i wouldnt recommend working the skill in dungeons if you dont have good stealth

ow ye i forgot to mention how i worked it up from start thanks for reminding me :)

i bought skill at npc to around 30 then disarming floor traps and chests in coventous lvl 1 and 2 to around 60 skill
you dont need stealth for coventous lvl 1 and 2 and if you walk with no pet and just mele through lvl 1 and stop at lvl 2 below the elder gazers and dread spiders
lvl 1 traps and chests should have respawned by then..it should be safe enough for ppl with mele and heal skills around 80 and a good phys resist suit

from 60 and up i just used my picking books but many of the chests are too high for 60 remove trap and i just used telekinese on those and worked on those i had a chance to remove or failgain on..but again pretty much have to get good stealth after 60 remove trap to use my method

i heard of the metod kile morgan wrote about and it should work too but i dont know if it can take you to gm i never tryed it because i think its nice to earn a little something while training

maybe its safer for new players to use kile morgans aproach early on tho

Sorry about the length of time between responses, decided to take a small hiatus in order not to get overwhelmed with the project :p. But, back in business now doing research on the skills I am not getting responses on, plus the ones I have. So, as to the two assisting let me fire back ^_^.

@Rune
Thanks for the extra information, I am actually contemplating including this as a method for advanced players, though I am still up in the air about it. Mainly because I just know that a new character will accidentally grab the runebook and go somewhere not so good ><. I may have to rely on this method though for lack of another given what I can find out from....

@Kile Morgan
Alright bud, I tried your method out but can't seem to get mine above 31.7 using it (since I am fact checking every method before I write it up). Now, the issue I am having is the exact opposite of yours, I am at 120 magery and lacking any decent Spell Channel Mage Weapons. What I need from you, if you don't mind and have the information available, is the approximate mage to remove trap ratio you experienced in your path. Like, at 30 Remove Trap how much magery did you have in order to raise to 40 (or wherever the mark was)? With this bit of information I can continue my fact checking, I would do it manually myself but I have many other books that I am checking on as well right now (currently working one for provocation using the boat to boat method, which works great ^_^). If you have this information, please let me know, if not I will put it at the end of my to-do list (since the raising is not of immediate need, since it is not a "necessary" skill). Anyway, let me know.

Also, I would like to take a moment to say thank you to you two for your help so far. I just did a short open house on the library to get feedback and everyone I spoke with was loving the idea. Every bit of help to see this to fruition is appreciated beyond words.
