The Eximus - Player Run Town

Hello, this is Sleepingcap and I play by the name Illidar. You might have had the pleasure of helping me out once I have gotten myself killed.
I am relatively new to Ultima Online (started last Thursday) but that doesn't stop me from taking up challenging goals - this being one of them - creating a Player Run Town (PRT).

So I am here to promote the town and look for folks who might be interested in living there. Currently there are only two buildings there - a library and the town hall. I am willing to accept almost anyone who is gonna follow the few rules I have set.

First off - no castles or anything overly huge. Why not? Because I want the town to consist of many buildings, rather than one or two castles.
Obey the design - Before you move there, do contact me beforehand so we can figure out where and how you should place the house to make the overall image look nice.
Ask beforehand - If you are interested in moving to the Eximus, contact me beforehand (Illidar) by sending me a PM - no matter if I am online or offline at the time - i will try to get back to you as soon as I can and we can work things out.
I want this, to make sure that the town doesn't get cluttered with castles and all other sorts of ugly houses that might ruin the overlay.

Why am I doing this?
To make things more fun - To give people another place to hang out other than Britain where the town crier keeps on spamming and people keep on running through just to get to the teleporter.

There are future plans of adding a bank there once there are enough members.

If you have questions, comments or whatnots - feel free to contact me ingame or leave a response here.

Hey Illidar, great little idea you have there.

Where abouts is this town so people can come view your progress?

The location is pretty much only known to those who live there or who are interested in - i don't want some jackass to pop a castle right in the middle of the village and ruin everything.

Well, if you're trying so hard to maintain a town that only approved players can live in; why not use one of the player services and have a region placed in your name?

Quote from Codex:

A house region to be created and transfered to your ownership, maximum 324 tiles
- 100 excelsior dollars
Technically done with a townhouse. House may be of any shape, as long as it is in one piece, and doesn't contain tiles inside the region that are not part of the region (no holes). Only the Coordinating Administrator may perform this service.

Course, most ED goes for 40-50k nowadays, so you're looking at 4 mill at least; but that's not really hard to come by on Excelsior. Even if it is, by your standards, then you can probably make most, if not all, of it back if you charge some sort of tax to live in Eximus.

At least this way, you won't have to worry about some unwanted tenant.

That actually sounds awesome - but how do people build houses on my territory? Or will i have to buy the house for them and then transfer it to them?
Cause I have both my houseslots filled (2) for the town hall and library - and deleting and adding a library daily (or depending how often people move there) would be quite annoying.

But the idea of having a certain territory to myself sounds great.
Althoug yes, gold is quite hard for me to collect - been a member of excelsior for about 5 days or so. But If people are interested in joining, they may help the town out financially.

Aye; there are many different personalities on Excelsior and a good many of them who enjoy RP and probably wouldn't mind a player run "town". I even enjoy the occasional RP skit. =)

I'm not 100% positive on how you'd allow people in your town, I'm thinking you'd need to place a house plot then transfer it. But then again, it could just be a region marked off by staff that says you can report anyone placing a house in that region. I'm not aware of whether or not it's a script or just a region command.

I only know of this nifty service because of my guild; we were going to buy out an area outside of Britain, but just placed numerous houses instead.

The best thing to do is page staff in-game and ask them for some info on the service; and check back here on this thread in the event they happen to respond to this.

Yep, organics are one quick way to make money. Bushido Dojo as well as Fan Dancer's, are two great places to make some quick cash.

To be honest, I do think it has some potential; but unless you're able to fund everything yourself, you'll need to find someone to help foot some of the bill.

On a side note; I don't intend to offend anyone but posting a one word reply objecting to one word that is widely used is a non-offensive fashion is; pointless. This is a fairly decent idea and I'd rather not see it locked because someone took offense to something so minor and chose to contribute in an improper fashion. :?

I do plan on getting the villagers/townsfolk to help out once they move there. Im sure they can afford a couple of gold every day/week to keep the town/village up and running.

But yeah - unfortunately nobody has contacted me with intentions of moving there, but hopefully someone will.

To those who might be concerned about the resources and whatnots - the village/town/settlement is surrounded by mountains and a huge forest.
As an addition, there is a small pond not far from the center.
So if you feel like being a part of something (potentially) big and awesome - give me a PM ingame or leave a note here and I ll try to contact you as soon as possible.

Good luck on your town. LoL has been working on one for about eight months now but it's a challenge to get it to work. We were planning to use the yard wand to build roads but since the yard wand doesn't quite work as intended it's nearly impossible to build them. You can build a fence around your area with the yard wand, but it can't have locked gates on it (to keep monsters out) because Coli doesn't want areas blocked from player travel (even though players can teleport through fences). My original idea was to just use a house plot as a placing location and move the house plot around (by destroying and re-placing it) to create all the yard wand fences and roads we needed, but Coli said that was against the rules because then the yard wand items would not be legal, and the GMs would have to delete them.

I could have made a SWEET town, too ;) I'm a yard wand master...

Anyway, we never advertised because we never finished, and I had to take a six month hiatus from UO for school, so the plans kind of got sidetracked. Now that I know we have competition, however...I might just have to jumpstart the program ;)

We already have a bank, all the BoD NPCs, and a few extras. We should make links to each other's towns :) Where is yours located? Lavender Town (yeah I stole it from Pokemon, but it fits the Legion of Lavender :p) is just north of Trinsic, near the swamp.

Well, the location of Eximus is a bit... secret-ish. Though not entirely, people can find it if they look for it - but i don't want to declare it to everyone - at least not for now.
But we are growing indeed, as of this moment - the population has grown to 5.

I have dropped books about the town all around the world - if you want one, feel free to PM me or check the surroundings of different teleporters around the world.
