Self Repair?

Does this actually work? I have 4 things with self repair and they do not reapair themselves at all so far.

Self repair is a strange upgrade for weapons and armour....
With weapons I think it only workls when you hit something you have a chance for it to repair itself.....With armour it needs to be hit to repair!
If you want to have your stuff repair itself reliably using self repair you need to have SF5 anything less than this is not worth it to be honest..Then go fight something low pewered and plentiful......Headless hideout is good....Go find a headless and wrestle it. its a long process and takes time...
In the end you are just much more advised to go get a repair deed. Cheaper...takes no time and won't wipe out your durability.
I believe there are a couple of vendors in the halls that sell them.
